Well, the title certainly fits the song, lol I remember it well and, yes, you're right, it did shook up her fans and People in general, it was quite a shock seeing a girl who sang "Gin in a bottle" suddenly taking such a musical and visual turn. For me, Christina's voice is so exceptional that she can sing anything and make videos however she wanted and I'd still be amazed by her vocals.

Contrary to popular belief (as far as her team pushing this narrative) the was opposite of what happened. Her team wanted her to continue to make pure pop music and she no longer wanted to go that route. It seemed like she really had to fight to even make this the first single because her team wanted to release beautiful first
Yeah if anything this paved way for shock value pop music stuff. At the time, it was less popular and very scary for labels to pour money into something that might not be perceived well. They wanted their pop girls to stay in that image they had worked to craft.
