    Iga shouldn’t feel bad at all about her season, it was an amazing follow up to 2022. Kudos!

    • @neoxsupreme
      @neoxsupreme Год назад +5

      No she shouldn't but the expectations and standards she set for herself became so high after an incredible 2022 that saw her win 2 slams and have a 37-match winning streak. Of course she's still world number 2 and has a chance to regain number 1 before year end; her peers would dream to have a season like hers.

      She felt tremendous pressure going into this match. She was 0-3 vs Ostapenko and she was aware that if defeated, she would lose not only the US Open but the number 1 ranking which she had held since Ash Barty's retirement last year.

      She literally broke many records in 2022, so maybe compared to it she is kind of disappointed she just won 1 grand slam and no sunshine double (only 4 women players in history have done that). But HONESTLY, last year I was kind of tired of Iga winning everything, this year it's become much more interesting with Rybakina, Sabalenka, maybe Ostapenko maybe Muchova, etc. Hope Iga comes back stronger next year.

    A classy player who reminds me of Chris Evert in her prime. Serena, at her zenith, once abruptly remarked to a reporter that any professional is capable of defeating another on a given day and that no win can be taken for granted. I never forgot that and no one else should.

      Baby, Iga cannot be compared to Serena. Serena was a warrior...Iga is an imposter who's got a false sense of superiority due to rising to power during COVID. Anybody could have won slams then. She's overrated and overhyped and the girls have caught up to her game. It took age, injuries, almost dying a few times, a baby, marriage, and everything to eventually bring Serena down. LOL.

    I admire Iga's honesty. I hope she resets and comes back stronger. She was lucky and wiser than Rybakina with taking time off after 2 injuries she suffered during the season. At least she is more or less heathy, maybe mentally exhausted with all this pressure of defending two Grand Slam titles and being number one for 75 weeks. Elena, on the other hand, still decided to play regardless which cost her losses and problem aggravation. I wonder who'll win WTA Finals this year. Both Iga and Aryna have already booked their respective places.

      you can say the same about power hitter. Rybakina got bounced because she rely on her serve a lot since it sets up everything else for her. Cristea made her move and her accuracy was gone. Every strategy, with some work, can be countered. Of course the player must execute. The announcers even mentioned that Ostapenko was extremely accurate today but she goes through streak of misses. Just not today. No one gets lucky and win 4 Grand Slams. Even Rafa took a while before he won on grass.

    Iga's a great player but it's clear she's not at the level of being a dominant #1 that just bulldozes the field for an entire season or two. She has a big forehand, covers the court really well, is generally a smart player and resilient but she doesn't have enough weapons to beat everyone easily. Ostapenko is the kind of player who can beat anyone on any day. She can also lose to anyone on any day. But she has big weapons and against Iga, she was 3-0 and now 4-0 so that clearly helped Osta and it was equally clear Iga broke down mentally as the match went on.

      Iga is still solid off both wings from the baseline. Not only the FH but the BH. Solid compact strokes. I reckon an upgraded, less vulnerable serve would already be enough to counter a big hitter like Ostapenko. That'd be my #1 priority if I'd be her coach. You shouldn't be on the back foot behind your serve. Mentality is fine.

      Iga's only 22, it's not like she's some washed up has been like Sakkari who always chokes when it matters most. Iga will continue to get better and add to her 15 Titles & 4 Slams, get back to me when she's 30, and we will see where those 15 & 4 numbers are then. Let's talk about Ostapenko, she has way too much talent to only have 6 career wins, with her game, she should win at least 3 times every season. When Iga does put it all together, the learning experiences from matches like this one will be key in that journey, but I will be supporting her along the way regardless. Since beginning of 2022 Iga is 123-19 with 12 titles, 3 Slams, 4 1000's, and has served 42 bagels (22 in 2022 and 20 so far in 2023) becoming first player since Steffi Graf to serve 20 or more bagels in consecutive seasons, and once she learns how to overcome this, then she will take things to another level and win a lot more Slams

    I don't like this speech at all. I get that the sport is incredibly demanding, but it's demanding for everyone on tour. Iga needs to shift her mindset and other patterns, because other players know how to beat her now. If she needs more breaks, then take them (Now that she's won Warsaw, it's time to abandon that 250 event, for example). Maybe re-evaluate your mental game (and your sports psychologist) and really own it instead of talking about how tough the tour is - that is, if you want to be #1 again. We all know how tough it is and love the champions because they overcome it.

    Thoughtful Iga. Love her. She's now 0 and 4 against Jelena and hasn't found a winning formula. I guess Iga just doesn't like her pace. She doesn't give her opponents any control and when she plays an opponent like Jelena, Elena, Aryna and Jessica who hit freely and so many winners on both ends she gets flustered because she can't control the ball. It's more mindset than poor play because she actually played well but her opponent blows winners past her and when she's not clicking on their returns it becomes frustrating for her. Iga you've had an amazing year. Improved a lot on many tournaments so just keep it up. Aryna has been playing well so she deserves the no.1 but she's got to win the tournament to have any chances of staying no.1.
