The fertility of the soil and the amount of rain you got... must have been perfect! I remember Sudan Grass from when I was a kid back in the late 50s... and it never looked like that!
That was really neat! Anyone notice on the high up drone shot near the end? It looks like they disturbed a deer. All you see is a sudden line forming from the upper left of the standing grass and making its way toward the bottom. Also, it's great to see how well disc and rotary mowers can completely cut the grass. As interesting as sickle mowers are to watch in action, I'm not convinced a sickle mower could have still cut that section of grass that was laid over. Great video!
@@oghuzkhan5117 that's too bad. It's hard to see in that tall grass. My dad was a wheat and barley farmer. I remember one time we were opening a field. Dad was harvesting along when all of a sudden, a big buck jumped out of the crop not far in front of him. The wheat is alot shorter but he never saw it until he was just feet away and it jumped and ran.
@@stephensaasen8589 You are right but we can prevent this. If you have a alarm pistol or if you live in USA and you have a gun permit, you can fire a couple of shots, to make sure that if a animal is hiding in the field it gets scared and run off. Its just sad when you know this kind of accidents happens, specially with birds who are trying to protect their eggs
@@oghuzkhan5117 it amazes me that people like you think you have all the answers. Considering the height of the grass and the seeming sanctuary it provided, I would hedge a bet that 1) the sound of such a gunshot would have been extremely muffled and 2) considering how much grass was surrounding the deer also, they most likely never would have left. It's very unfortunate that such a thing happened and contrary to the thinking of many people, farmers do make great attempts to avoid such harm to animals. Deer are not on the endangered list so the population will not be harmed.
Ive cut Sudan grass like this for years. First I used a regular haybine. Never an issue relating to volume. Moved at 7 miles per hour. Then switched to a Discbine. Could cut at 20 miles per hour. The biggest issue is yah have to slow down to turn. Sudan grass is easy to cut because the rolls do most of the work pulling it through.
You're making a lot of extra work keeping such tight headland turns. Don't know anything about Sudan but it seems to be pretty light stuff?? swaths are smaller than expected when looking at the height. And the 4 cyls seem to have no problem.

Most all the dairy Farmers we used to cut hay far back in the 1960s you just feed their cows we did also for our three milk cows real good feed for them make them give extra milk taste good
I like your video, it's very satisfying, but I want to see the next steps. Do you pick it up with a pick up trailer and then dump it into a silage pile? Or does it get tedded and bailed? I think this is going to feed cattle eventually but I want to see the next steps. Do you plant a cover crop after you pickup the sudan or is this land going to lay dormant until next year now?
Yea I’m sorry I wasn’t able to get the next steps on film but it was baled and wrapped and fed to cattle as haylage. As for the field it was left till this spring and then planted in different grasses to make into a hay field

What fertilizer inputs are needed for yields similar to this?
You'll bust apart ur haybine. Use a ground drawn sickle mower. You'll Fly through the stuff .
Bale it up & wrap the bales
