Choices are good. And,similarly, I would love this guitar if it had a Floyd. I love the precision of tuning, the stability and the tone of Floyd’s. So many good options out there for all of us. 🎉
Ditto! I don’t understand what’s so “difficult” with a Floyd. The stability and fine tuner precision makes them far superior IMO. And all the metal (mass) adds to the tone and resonance. 🤷♂️😎
I would've 100% wanted to buy this if it weren't for the Kramer Baretta Special. That kramer and this Charvel are almost like the same guitar, just one is owned by Gibson, other Fender, and then one is a lot cheaper with the downside of a single-color paint job and worse parts. I bought myself a purple Kramer Baretta Special, did the Eddie treatment and now have an amazing "Van Halen inspired" axe for under $300.
The pickup on the Baretta special is a monster. How many guitars at that price range are mod machines with bad pickups. Not that one. The trem leaves a lot to be desired, but that's true for most sub-$500 guitar.
I suspect it's mostly the oil - and that the strings installed in the factory are deliberately coated in oil, so that while the guitar is in transit and spending maybe months, or longer, in the case, the strings don't get all rusty before the guitar is sold.
What am I missing? Everyone is complaining about the "clickbait title" but I'm not seeing it. "Will Fender Regret This?" He then goes on the talk about this Charvel Super-Stock being awesome but it's such a limited run. As of my writing this comment it's already sold out at Sweetwater. Do people not realize that Fender owns Charvel? Fender made the decision to only make a few hundred (I believe I heard 500) and now they're gone. How is that a clickbait title? I'm not throwing shade at other commentors I just don't get the hate.
I was looking at one of these. because as far as I can find, its the only Charvel with the pointy headstock. Hoping it makes a comeback. Love how they specked this one out. Good stuff.
Am I missing something? What click bait? The title of the video? Sorry, I watch because it is Robert and I like his videos/personna. Not the title of the videos.
Unfortunately Creators don't really have a choice anymore (if they want to actually reach people and be optimized). The algorithm is really challenging to deal with nowadays.

something I love about your channel Robert is that you actually PLAY and and really, really, play. Your chops, and feel, phrasing etc, really makes all the gear demo, gear review style videos so much more enjoyable. Guitar needs a Floyd...as the pressure on the nut from the strings not going straight through, and going in different directions.. will cause stability tuning issues and pinching of strings. A floyd would stop this.
@@johnnyringo8174realistically that isn't going to change the fact that that string pull angle is going to make the strings like a pull-saw cutting through that nut overtime as the strings move in the slot from them usage
I have an 86 Charvel Model 6 (first year of Japanese production) with a Kahler, and it's fine without a locking nut. In fact I took off the factory fitted string clamp that sat behind the nut and return to pitch is really good.
The Gotoh 510 is a god-tier bridge WHEN its combined with straight string pull. With this headstock that bridge is a bad choice because of the string pull angle likely causing binding that no amount of lubrication, reslotting or replacement is going to remedy for long
Dude, you provide the perfect amount of reminiscing of the 80's. I was 13 going into, and 23 coming out of the 80's. cheap nickel strings=black fingers. Tune the springs in the trem to a common key you solo in-the sympathetic vibration can add bloom to notes. Been doing this on strats with blocked trems for years.
The pointy headstock is really nice. The black fingertips come from d'addario strings. It happens when your sweat reacts with these strings. Jackson ships their guitars with that brand as well.
For the spring sound, I went to a craft store and bought some of that foam for it. It's almsot like sheets of memory foam. Usually 2 sheets and they're like an inch or inch and a half thick. I cut strips and put between the springs. It gets rid of that sound. I also cut a strip and put it behind the nut if there's that resonate string sound past the nut. Cheap and effective.
thr nickel in the frets is black. If they don't Dont do a good job cleaning the frets after polishing them the residue turns your fingers black. If you polish with something like gorgomite or wipe them down a few times and change th strings it won't get your hands.
because the strings put on the new guitar have been sitting out on a reel or hanging from a hook on the shop floor. They have picked up shop dust and all the particles from working on guitars. They are still good strings, they just have the shop atmosphere on them lol, cherish it ;).
The black is oxidation from the strings and frets. From the time they install the strings at the factory until you take your awesome new guitar home, it has probably been weeks or months, as well as the guitar going through several different "climates". All the while, those original strings are sitting there getting grimey. Out of the box, we should at least, wipe them down, and at best change them.
As a charvel guy I don’t understand why they go out of their way not to build the guitar people want? Tiger stripes are very cliche. Honestly if this guitar was a solid color preferably with black hardware I’d already own one, and I have more than one original model 1’s. And it’s not just Charvels some of the best spec’d Kramers have graphics not everyone wants tiger stripes or hot dogs on our guitar. Don’t get me wrong I have artist guitars skulls, relic, etc but this isn’t even a halfway artist guitar it just really looks like what somebody looking at too much social media thinks gen x wants and as far as it being a limited run that hits a little different for those of us that bought the Henrik guitar early and thought we had something special. Don’t get me wrong it’s an awesome guitar and I’m not about snobbery but feeling a little like you got in on something special just to have it repoped to the point it’s almost a meme is a little disappointing. I have trust issues with Charvel now lol
I've been shouting this for years about the headstock. Yeah, the big boys had the fender headstock chavels, but us normal consumers had the model 1-4 and the numbered series. The majority of ppl who owned charvels all had pointy headstocks! Secondly, they need to re-release a budget model 1 with the pointy headstock and basic strat trem and 1 pickup for like 4-500 dollars and make it classic vibe quality.
4:38 I think I heard Trogly say the black residue on new guitars might be polishing compound that hasn't been cleaned up after the buffing process. Maybe that's just it 🤷🏻♂️
The first guitar Sweetwater recommends to replace it is awesome. I wish i would have bought one when they were five hundred dollars cheaper. Inflation is way higher than they claim
Cool I like it .....I also like that its a non Floyd guitar ...simple. the build quality looks good ..but because its limited means = its going to be expensive ... But.then again ...everything is expensive ..
The fingers turning black is because they're not polishing the frets and cleaning the fretboard from the factory. Cut the strings off, polish the frets and clean the fretboard, restring with new strings.
I love vintage style guitars but have a real soft spot for superstrats. This is so cool and Dimarzio sounds great. I do have a JB trembucker in an HH strat that is high output but cleans up and coil splits beautifully. I think a well designed high gain pickup can be subtle but we see so many muddy ones it can prejudice you against them.
For decades the guitar manufacturers have been using a graphite lubricant to keep their strings from corroding while stored or on display. That is why your fingers turn black when playing a new guitar. *** I have no idea why that happens, but my BS answer sounded good, right? ***
i wish Charvel would stay away form the Jackson style headstock (and dinky bodies). i was all in on this guitar until i saw the headstock - just reminds me of the cheap Charvels they were pumping out in the late 80's
Super-cheap spring rattle silencing hack: I take a lot of supplements, many of which come stuffed with cotton -- so I just take a wad of cotton and jam it between or behind the springs. Maybe I'll try finding a way to darken it in the future, for any guitar I may have that doesn't have a back plate.
To people saying this isn’t clickbait: it’s clickbait because the title presents a question instead of summarizing the video. People over the age of 30 will remember a time when titles (and headlines) actually summarized the news instead of just baiting clicks.
Should have been a proper run with a left handed version too. I love the 80s looks of the guitar. The SD Distortion is a great pickup imo, I have a set of them in a Buckethead inspired singlecut.
Robert: Great video. I agree, its good to see the old headstock back. To all of the "clickbate haters": I believe that every comment, despite the content of what you say, helps the creator. So, keep complaining. Plus, its a FREE country...have at it.
I love the idea of this, but the lack of a Floyd Rose is a dealbreaker for me. We all know that this guitar is going to appeal to the fans of a certain player who is not endorsing any FMIC products as far as I know, and they went to Floyd Roses pretty much as early as possible, leaving vintage six-point tremolos as a rare second option.
I wouldn't say ALL new guitars have dirty corroded strings, or dyed fretboards. But yeah, cheap strings corrode when they sit. And mass production guitars usually don't get a thorough wipedown of the fretboard. So between the crusty stings and barely wiped off stain. That's what you get. Black fingers. Peace!
I have a modded GE-7 as well. Got one a few years back, used, and had it modded. Thanks Uncle Larry. I noticed in the video, that yours was set flat. But, the gain was up. Have mine in my effects loop boosting the output transformer. Is this how you are using yours as well? Also, I have 2 superstrats / Franklinstrats. They are my main guitar. They both have two point trems. They are rock solid on tuning. I cannot speak to the Floyd Rose, I’ve never owned one.
4:46 None of my 6 Solar guitars turned my fingers black. Nor did my rare Sun Dew Gold Ibanez Pia, or Squier Affinity Strat (unboxed in tge shop directly from their warehouse). Nor did my PRS SE Tremonti nor did my Harley Benton Gotoh single cut and nor did my Ibanez AES40. All were bought brand new. I guess it’s just you 🤣😂🤣😂 Cheers from NZ 😎🎸🤘
Great video Robert. Title def explains your opinion about the limited run. Hopefully fender will see how many ppl actually want these ( cause I do) and make more for us. Thanks for the content🔥
No. The last thing they want is a bunch of "80s" Charvels sitting in the warehouse. That said, it is a very cool guitar. It ROCKS and I did immediately look at Sweetwater to confirm that their last 2 were already gone. GC/MF have it though. Thought about trading for one of those, but really I'm good with the Charvel, Jackson, and Music Man Axis guitars that I already have. Super Strats are awesome. Today I'm playing my EVH Striped Series into the ANTI pedal for some fun BIG rock tone. Love those necks, as you said. They copying George Lynch here?
Don't tell the Big-F!!! They have the carbon rods AND multi-radius fretboards even in the JS in the Jacksons! 🤫 Why get a Squier when Jacksons kick them outta the ring without even blinking. As for Charvels, I am up for one of those DK24 anytime. Soz Fender, but your subsidiaries kick yer butt anything but good!! P.S. I love your tone! 5:29
So glad you did this video. I just found out that the one I have back ordered will be shipping this week. And am so stoked, but I was having trouble finding any real reviews/opinions on them. Made me feel much better!!! about following my gut when I ordered it. Was too afraid they would sell out the full run.
@ Awesome man, Thank you so much for taking the time. Mike Gross has been helping me with a wall I hit in my playing, and he said the same. Any San Dimas is stellar and he had no doubt I would love it. I also have an issue with loving FR guitars but not the FR, so I can’t wait!
The strings are old. Put on at factory, been played, shipped, going through temp changes. Then if in store, everyone playing leaving sweat from fingers on them. I always put new strings on new guitar's. If I'm buying a new guitar I'll request them to put new strings on so I can really hear the true tone of the guitar. I might even ask them to adjust the neck and pickups. But, I I only do this on expensive guitars that I'm serious about purchasing.
Seems nicer than the Beretta Special I bought. I worry about the spread tuners. I couldn't get the Beretta to stay in tune until I replaced the neck with one with a strat-style headstock (after I replaced the nut twice). ...black fingers when playing a new guitar? Maybe it's metal dust from polishing the frets?
I'm pretty sure it's the polishing of the frets that make your fingers black. Every new guitar I get (brand new or used), I polish the frets with polishing compound and the Dremmel, and every time after that I have my fingers black !! It disappears after some hours of playing.
Even if Fender discontinues this, I would imagine that the Kramer Baretta reissues from Gibson are pretty similar, and even some of the EVH lines that Fender has, though I am not a shredder guitar player. Of course, they all come equipped with the Floyd Rose standard, and that might be a real issue, as you pointed out in the review. I don't know if this is in fact true, but I have read that the solvents used to rinse strings are pretty toxic to the environment, though I don't know that for sure.
Ouch, placing any boss tone-sucker in such a beautiful signal path 😜 No but honestly, GREAT demo, extremely cool tone (even with the tone-sucker! 😅) Great vibe, subbed!
A lot of deaf people here. The title makes perfect sense. Fender has missed many opportunities. They need to diversify and innovate. I sold my Fender’s and replaced with Tokai. The rest are Kramer, Ibanez and Charvel.
I feel ya on the Duncan Distortion, although it does sound pretty good on that guitar, maybe the Alder body helps, I have mine in a Jackson in a SL3 M that I hate, it's very wooly and fuzzish on the basswood body. I wish it came with a JB. But I might switch it out for something. I did buy a PAF pro to put on it but may buy a Ibanez Jem JR and stick it in that now.. that's the problem with having many guitars, it's a rabbit hole lol
Also the tacky riddles and pictures. When I read or see them I don't click on video. Just say what the video is and stop with the cheesy/sleazy titles and pictures.

Peace!
Agreed with the title comments, loved the guitar and the playing. Thanks for keeping my 80s vibe going Robert 🫶🏻
I guess it’s just you 🤣😂🤣😂
Cheers from NZ 😎🎸🤘
Great video Robert. Title def explains your opinion about the limited run. Hopefully fender will see how many ppl actually want these ( cause I do) and make more for us. Thanks for the content🔥
Excited for the next 80s course rob! I love coming back the first 80s course and focusing on things thst didnt sink in a previous time
That guitar was on my radar but no Floyd and not a 24 fret changed my mind. Love the channel
Very interesting what you said about spring noise...I have a super strat that does that
Not click bait if the title is literally discussed in the video guys.
Black fingertips are from the polishing compound leftover on the fingerboard.
That solo in the intro was tits up man. So rad!
You play so well when it’s 80’s hair metal 😂 you were born for this man
Beautiful guitar but it has a fatal flaw that’s also a pet peeve of mine. A trem bridge without a locking nut is almost useless.
Fender doesn’t care.
Don't tell the Big-F!!!
They have the carbon rods AND multi-radius fretboards even in the JS in the Jacksons! 🤫
Why get a Squier when Jacksons kick them outta the ring without even blinking.
Something I forgot to mention is the roll the edges of the fretboard and it makes the neck feel sooo much better. You will love that thing
Charvelle needs that Toothpaste logo back
The strings are old.
Fender should revive the old Charvel Surfcaster line, those were awesome (I had the 12-string and I wish I never sold it).
Some guitar companies are using inferior woods for the fingerboards and trying to hide it with black dye.
Not maple boards though…
@@laurenceede6881 True
Looks awesome, definitely the guitar I'd've wanted as a teen! I'd prefer the solid block saddles on the Gotoh, but other than that it's super cool!
I see your point Robert. However, i have all the instruments i need right now. Thank you for you vids!
Maple fretboards really pop. Sweet looking axe.
That's a killer guitar...love it.
Robert I'm telling ya...if you would have made a 80s type album...you would sell
Such a tasty intro tune, great stuff!
Need to sculpt that tone with the ge7 a bit instead of boosting full frequency
@Robert Baker, if you could choose any guitar with any spec as a signature guitar, what would you choose?
I saw Dokken in 89 and they didn't sound that good!
Seriously, that was an excellent cover. George Lynch is so underrated these days.
the more clickbait, the more people go to the comments to hate on the clickbait, which actually is more traffic?
And Fender owns Charvel.
Single pickup, single volume, all rock!!
YES!
I'm sure the bridge is solid. But I can't do a Super Strat without a Floyd or Kahler
Ouch, placing any boss tone-sucker in such a beautiful signal path 😜 No but honestly, GREAT demo, extremely cool tone (even with the tone-sucker! 😅)
Great vibe, subbed!
Straight up just had mine sent to me from Sweetwater and it arrived Friday great Git Fiddle!
YES!!!
The black fingers is possibly polishing compound on the frets.
A lot of deaf people here. The title makes perfect sense. Fender has missed many opportunities. They need to diversify and innovate. I sold my Fender’s and replaced with Tokai. The rest are Kramer, Ibanez and Charvel.
Price is a bit of a rip off imo.
Kramer 84 and the new version a better value.
But will they…
when I see a guitar with a pattern like that I always think "it has to be a Satchel model" 😅
The Fender headstock is the old Charvel headstock. Come on dude
Hopefully these will see the same outcome that as the Henrik Danhage signature, with it returning.
Not really, they’re too expensive for what it is.
I agree with the rest of the comments. Eff the clickbait titles. It's not 2014.
Also the tacky riddles and pictures. When I read or see them I don't click on video. Just say what the video is and stop with the cheesy/sleazy titles and pictures.
I did an experiment a couple months ago for a month. I posted videos with very basic thumbnails and titles that were right on the nose(what some people say they think are better). All the videos were my worst performing videos in years. On youtube as your videos perform worse and worse youtube recommends your videos less and less and in turn makes them perform even worse. So creators are at a crossroads. Do we spend days working on content give it a basic title and thumbnail and watch it perform poorly or spend time think of titles and thumbnails that will get more clicks. I promise you none of us creators want to spend days thinking of titles and thumbnails. I would love to just call it what it is but the hard truth is NOBODY watches it when you do that. So sadly we are stuck in this cycle. Thankfully there are a lot of people who understand we are just doing what we have to do.
@@RobertBakerGuitar It sucks, but it's not your fault. Cool vid btw, guitar looks rockin
@@RobertBakerGuitar I guess I chose otherwise, and it shows. Few of my videos have over a thousand views, but they’re there for me not anyone else. Subscribers would help but aren’t the point. If I made a living at yt I would be homeless LOL
wow you told him
Question for you guys
What is your definition of a SUPER STRAT? For me it's as simple as a Strat body with a Humbucker .
H-S-H, recessed Floyd, and a ridiculously over-the-top paint job
Yeah, this setup is the ultimate. I agree with you Robert. I think Fender missed an awesome opportunity to sell more of these.
Same but it also needs a Floyd rose or other locking trem and 22-24 frets
@@tomaslopez2940Yup, 24 frets would be cool on this guitar
Pointier/sharper strat body or pointy headstock with humbuckers or strat body with a locking trem
Hi how are you rock on dude l am learning to play guitar basic power chords you are a perfect guitarist
Thanks homie and enjoy the guitar journey :)
Could you show your ox preset in detail? Would love to see which cab/mic combo and eq you are using.
Im using the GB 4x12 with a 57 and a 121 no EQ and the plate reverb :)
I would prefer to have the guitar with the original non-locking Floyd trem, like the one installed on Guthrie Govan sig.
Does George Lynch and ESP know Charvel is doing this?? It's a total rip-off, even if they change the color.
Even if they knew, what are they supposed to do? Do they have the copyright for putting tigerstripes and camouflage on a guitar? 😅
Does Fender know that ESP ripped of their body style?
Your playing always sounds so Good. 👊😎
Kramer makes a guitar like that one pick up but a Floyd rose
Baretta ?
metal polish residue from when the buffed the frets turn fingers black.
It's not click bait it's click creativity ....props😅
