    Just to clarify, champions:
    I know something is not right with this speaker and have suggested a replacement as mentioned in the video.
    I don't just comp customers a new speaker without quoting one first, obviously.
    The speaker is providing signal, which sometimes makes it hard to convince the customer to replace it if the budget is limited, which is why I recorded the comparison to convince the customer that something is not right.
    If they go ahead with the ET10, I have one in stock to replace while they wait and will record some new sound samples for your listening pleasure.

      Bro, I said I was going to suggest a speaker replacement to the customer. Other than provide one for free, what can I do? You clearly know nothing about running a business if you think I should just replace a speaker for free without consultation with the customer.

    Actually we started getting cords and equipment with the brown, blue and green with a yellow tracer cords and wiring in the USA well over 40 years ago. The only color codes that are mandatory for USA electrical building wiring are neutrals (grounded conductor) shall be, white, gray or natural rubber color, safety ground (grounding conductor) shall be green or green with a yellow tracer, and a wild leg or high leg on a delta transformer shall be orange. Generally we use black, red, blue and white for 120/280 or 120/240 (orange on the high leg for three phase), and 277/480 is brown, orange, yellow and gray (if it's a delta transformer the high leg is B phase so it's already orange). In facilities with 400Hz military power, the 400Hz was orange, and 277/480 reverts to brown, violet, yellow and gray. Power cords are cords and generally not building wiring. The first brown blue green power cords I saw were on Dan Foss PWM motor speed controllers and soft starts made in Germany. Once inside of a radio chassis RMA dictated that grounds were black. That's usually all DC. In facilities that are overseen by a full time EE, anything goes! !!!!ANYTHING!!!! I have used illegal street ells in places like that. Just run it by the engineer, explain your installation needs, and it flies. It always does for me anyway. Not so much for some other people. No bragging but you don't ask to do stupid stuff for the sake being stupid.

    I recently ran into the same problem with the filter cap can on an Eico HF85 compact preamp. There was no room to install capacitors under the chassis, so I used an electricians hole punch to enlarge the mounting hole and added a clamp. I agree that the cans will be going away and should be avoided when possible. I will point out that some very good (new) tab style cans from CE manufacturing are available from Antique Electronic Supply here in the States. Another company Hayseed Hamfest will build cans to order and do a very respectable job. You do excellent work, which is hard to come by. Keep it up.

    Always a fun vid Brad, great attention to detail. Just a thought; I have a SF Princeton of about the same vintage with the international voltage taps, and UK mains voltage is often up to 250v. I notice that you have the red/ black tap on the Mains OT taped up; on my amp that tap is for for a 260v input. Using that tap instead of green/ black knocks the HT down to a reasonable 400 or so, and htrs still run around 6.2 ac. Maybe worth a try?

    There has to be something wrong with that speaker. Sure, the Fat Jimmy line may be a little more muted and “creamy” than the actual WGS offerings, but they don’t sound like that normally. I’m wondering if the VC is rubbing/misaligned or the frame was bent somehow.
    I can’t recommend the Jupiter M10C enough for Fender amps. I run the P version in my 66 Super and think they sound better than the CTS Alnico 10”. That’s a very, very hard thing to do. I’ve even tried a quad of Celestion Alnico Golds in it and they didn’t cut it.
    The standard WGS G10C is fantastic too! They really have become my favorite manufacturer of modern speakers in the last couple years. Especially with the Jupiter branded offerings.
    Anyways, fantastic job on this amp Brad!

    • @BradsGuitarGarage
      @BradsGuitarGarage  10 месяцев назад

      Yeah something not right there, mate. I've never seen this speaker before, so wasn't sure if it was just shit or not, but looking up sound samples from others, it's not anything like it.

  • @stephenatgraceland

    I must confess my jealousy. Even with a questionable speaker, the newly repaired SFPR sounds way better than mine. I did recone the original Fender speaker, but the “sounds cruddy above volume at 2” problem lingers. Fascinating stuff: on to part 4!

      Not an expert here by any means but it was something fender did from the factory. I think the idea was to prevent build up of moisture in the board which would warp / bend it.

    GREAT WORK been down the rabbit hole on bassmans and they stopped making sound

    I'm not suprized that that WGS speaker sounds terrible. A few years ago someone recommend that I get WGS Veterans 30, instead of my favorite Celestion Vintage 30's for a 2 x 12" cabinet for my 50 watt Plexi. The WGS speakers were unusable (very nasally and harsh sounding to my ears). Never again....

    • @wastewoodrockers5526
      @wastewoodrockers5526 10 месяцев назад

      To be honest I think the Vintage 30s sound about the same, especially the ones made past the mid 90s.
      Some of my favourites are the 80s G12T75’s. They’re nothing like the modern ones. The earliest ones from 84’ with the vents are supposedly identical to the G12-65 and were just renamed to use up stock. I own an 88’ Marshall cab with speakers from the same year, sounds amazing!

    • @jrumiano
      @jrumiano 10 месяцев назад

      Sorry not to my ear (been playing nearly 50 years). Celestion speakers have never let me down, and that includes old and new versions of their speakers. I took a chance with WGS speakers and I got burned. I was able to return them, but I got stuck paying over $50 US to ship them back. @wastewoodrockers5526

    For Fender Twin Retards, and other amps with greater than 500 VDC B+ I am using two 350 volt radial caps in series with 240K or 270K balancing resistors. $33 for a Sprague Atom with a 65 degree C rating and 5000 or 6000 hour lifespan? NO THANKS! With the Nichicon, Chemicon or Panasonic radial caps I get 12,000 hours @ 105C for 85-90% less money. That is almost 3x better for more than 80% less money.
