If I can just throw in my two cents: Quick bio: didn't know what I wanted to do after high school, joined Army, ended up 2x in Afghanistan. Since then a lot of therapy so some exchanges with psychologists on life, meaning, goals, mortality, etc. I thought growing up with guns and blowing shit up made me hard. I thought getting into fights and people throwing cinderblocks through cars made me more resilient. But I bit off more than I could chew down range. Prior to that (and in an awkward way during my time in) I excelled and people constantly offered me jobs and opportunities to keep going in the field I was in (35F/MI). Made connections for future growth but I didn't realize the extremely negative coping mechanisms I was adapting. I say ALL THAT to say something frustratingly trite: if you have the aptitude and capacity to get a guaranteed job that pays some bills that's safe GO FOR IT! Going music and freelance if you have a support system can be great! It's kind of what societally kept the oligarchs of any time period around. But sans that support? It can lead to massive success! But it can definitely lead to some dark places especially if you're totally on your own. What you want to be can still be achieved if you find the practical means to support it on your own. If all of what I wrote is bullshit and way off topic then my bad. Just throwing in 2 cents. It's good you're thinking on it regardless.
That 5-10 year question is soooo hard, cuz like who knows what's gonna happen! But you have good goals, one of them related to music could be like practicing a song and performing on stage in the next year or something on your campus IDK :)
I recently lost my job in May, which is a whole different story. However, I decided to try starting my own business instead of getting a new job. The main reasons for this decision were that I don't have significant financial responsibilities because I still live with my parents (I'm only 19, so I'm not quite the kid in the basement yet, lol). This decision did cost me nearly all my savings for buying equipment, a vehicle, a forklift, and all kinds of stuff. Anyway, that's the basic background. I've found Jordan Peterson's advice to be very helpful. One thing he said that I constantly try to apply is: "Compare yourself to who you were yesterday, not to who someone else is today." I find this helps me be persistent because when I compare myself to others in my industry, it's pretty overwhelming, and it looks like such a long road, which pretty much encourages me to procrastinate. I still struggle with it, but I've definitely been better. Of course, it's one thing to say what you do, which is a piece of cake, but actually applying it is really freaking difficult. Another helpful quote I found is: "The steps you take don't need to be big; they just need to take you in the right direction." Anyway, that's my spew. I'd also recommend books by David Goggins; it's basically a self-improvement book called "Can't Hurt Me". I was eating breakfast and was curious, which is what I was doing when listening to your video, lol.
that’s some really good advice. i genuinely wish you the best with your business, i can’t imagine how stressful and overwhelming that must be but keep pushing
Very relatable, just let life do you! I recently started dancing up here in youtube and it’s similar to your music passion! Any artistic pursuit is a great balance because I always heard it was an outlet to the souls ayy if thats a career for you then you’re lucky!!
musics always been a part of my life, and it’s what I enjoy most. I’m realizing that if I have something I’m passionate about like that, that’s what I should spend my life doing
