- Max Verstappen takes pole and wins the Sprint at the Chinese GP, but drama between Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz at Ferrari after contact in the final few laps. Leclerc believes Sainz was absolutely over the line, but the Spaniard is seemingly unwilling to back down. Lewis Hamilton secures P2 in the sprint but is surprisingly eliminated in Q1 of main-race qualifying following a final-sector mistake and more Mercedes setup changes.

Aston Martin has filed a complaint against the results of qualifying, citing a breach of Article 39.6 which states that a car stopped on track (Sainz in Q2) is ineligible to take further part in the session.

Can you please rewatch the start of the race and the first corner? You sound like Hamilton did nothing to push Lando off the track? Hamiltons in car footage clearly shows otherwise. I'm not saying Landos actions were 100% but Hamilton clearly turns left into him as a quick jab to push him out of bounds and he had plenty of track and control to not need to.

@@larssonk22 In the moment they both get main character syndrome and bottle it. Socci and the sprint today for Norris not knowing when to yield or pit, George crashing again and again when it's in the bag in final stints.
It's one thing to be self critical, but to employ those lessons learned when you're hopped up on adrenaline is another.
Stroll isn't running into or fighting Alonso at every opportunity, he actually offers to let him by. Stroll is a mediocre driver who makes mistakes. George thinks he's the next Lewis but can't stay cool when it matters. I'll admit Norris isn't as bad, but he's prone to overdo it and make the wrong calls under pressure.

The top four teams including Perez were within 1.5 to 2 tenths of each other in the sprint, if this is anything to go by then we are in for an exiting race but not for the win
I am a Lewis supporter, but I do find it strange that it is always him whose set-up goes in the wrong direction when Mercedes "experiment". I don't think I have heard Russell complain that his set-up went in the wrong direction when he has had a poor qualifying. However I stand to be corrected. My other thought is, after 3 years of "experimenting" with set-up changes, why don't Mercedes just do incremental changes until arriving at a sweet spot and stick with it for the bulk of the season. It may not win many races but it is gonna score consistant points for both drivers and with the chance of winning the occasional race.
Those are just excuses to keep the myth alive, but it just isn't that good without a superior Mercedes and a 2nd tier teammmate. Everybody experiments with the setup to get faster, if you don't succeed you didn't do well.

The whole “experimental setups” is a pure myth lol. Last race, first they used the excuse of damage in turn 1, then once people watched the replay and that wasn’t true, then it was oh I was running an experimental setup. Then George after Quali says he was not aware of any setup changes for Hamilton and that they were on similar setups.
Race 1 Bahrain, Lewis was supposedly setting up his car to do well in the race at the cost of Quali. Then he gets out paced in the race anyways and has no advantage what so ever in race pace. Also race 1, at one point claiming “my seat is broken” only for merc to inspect after the race and everything is fine. It’s called excuses people, I don’t think I’ve ever seen Lewis have a bad race and not have an excuse ready for the camera.

So for the new f1 watchers. About 10 years ago ferrari used to setup their car for the race and they focused on low tire deg. But the way they did it was to build the car to keep tire temps low. BUT the problem with this was that ferrari sucked in colder weather/rain. So this is just a repeat of what ferrar did 10 years ago and they still havent figured out a different way to keep tire deg low along with getting enough heat into the tires

The setup stories from Hamilton is getting a bit old.
The team have come out and confirmed they screwed up, that said it sounds like it was half team half hamilton looking for a "silver bullet" as they put it.
Lando sometimes behaves inappropriately in social situations (he is shy, laughs when he shouldn't). I wonder if he has this behavior when he is driving. However, they could call on someone to approach these situations in a more constructive way.

I agree with TacticalRab about Hamilton not fighting Max and risk cooking his tires fighting a far superior car that will inevitably pass him anyway. One time champion Nico Rosberg was saying Lewis should have fought Max but that would have been a silly thing to do. That's why Lewis has so many championships and Rosberg only has 1.

It had to happen between Leclerc and Sainz. Leclerc is Ferrari’s Monegasque darling, a true scientist driver, (very much like “the professor” Prost back in the day) But unfortunately for Leclerc, Sainz is a much stronger racer and arguably far more ambitious than “comfortable” Leclerc. These things NEVER end well!

Totto and all of merc getting g exposed. Totto was handed a top team and gifted an engine that was light years away from second bests engine and made all the difference no matter what other teams did with drivers, aero, design, strategy, etc….merc won all those championships on more engine power.

Yep dry and 1.5s per lap clear of the rest in the sprint. Ham was right to let Vers past, no point slowing yourself down and probably ending up 3rd or less. But Quali for Ham was a disaster for the main race. Unless a miracle happens, then no point watching anymore races as Vers could start a lap down and still win! Norris should have waited and got him later, but was far too eager (hmm diplomatic for him being a plonker). Unless it drizzles tomorrow, I will just watch the replay later in the day. Pity for Alonso, I would have liked him to finish 3rd this morning. Anyway season is RB 1&2, followed probably by Sainz/Leclerc, and anyway who gives a toss who finishes 2nd and below unless you'r a rookie.
We are so happy that Lewis is washed, we had to tolerate him for 8 years.

By that logic basically everyone one the grid should have gotten multiple penalties each last year. The number of incidents of tires coming together causing punctures during overtakes in the last few years has been pretty high. Most drivers have been involved in one or more.

Max took first on lap 9 or something? By the end of the race, 10-11 laps later, he wins by over 12 seconds. Crazy
One thing i've picked up from watching a few breakdowns of Alonso vs Stroll qualifying elsewhere one of the big differences between them is Alonso can handle more oversteer on the front and a more skittish rear than stroll can.
Max has noted himself he really likes an extreme amount of both, (they kinda go together by their nature), in his car, and they're generally faster if you can keep the back end from spinning out. He may just be the driver comfortable with the most amount of both in his car on the grid. Not to understate the effect of the car OFC, but he's just able to extract more from it.
It probably also explains why he tends to lose a decent amount of pace offset compared to the dry in slippery conditions, the cars too far out on the ragged edge to be drivable in those conditions without backing off a bit more than everyone else.

People react to heavily. Yes, Lando has had chances and will continue to have chances to win. He hasn’t capitalized yet but let’s be real. He has a long career ahead of him and many worse drivers have had wins before. Yes he may struggle and it may take a while to get past that mental block, but fans need to understand he is near the top end of world class drivers and is definitely capable of winning. Once he gets his first I’m sure the rest will come easier too. He is too good to not win throughout his entire career (if the car allows)
Yes, all true, but worse drivers have been able to nail the few opportunities they’ve had to ice a race victory/victories. DannyRic has made a career out of nailing the chances that he’s had to win in a car that was never a championship winning car. The only victory that fell through his fingers was Monaco 2016, and that wasn’t his fault.
