The audience was in shock because they literally never seen someone perform at this level
The footage of this show is from a London concert at the time London concert goers wore their best suits and behaved much differently than a typical American crowd The Beatles commented on that in 1964 when they came to America. In fact Asian crowds are still to this day very reserved much like the London concert goers from these days. Plus they were in awe LOL
@@craigratajczak6721 also a TV special. Had to be on your best behaviour!
@@craigratajczak6721 - I heard that about Japan. I think it was from Metallica. During the song, they are completely quiet. And after - they go completely nuts. They're focusing. They don't want to miss it.
Up until then everyone thought Clapton was God. Jimmy played and God was proclaimed dead.
@@ronweber1402 god aint real
Jimi didn't play the guitar, he translated to us what the guitar wanted to say.
No Jimi tapped into the musical conveyer belt from outer space- the best!!!!
❤❤❤
Aaron best description ever.
Greatest comment ever!
Very true
Hendrix the legend..no one can or will fill his shoes.
Ever.
On god
I'm on the fence about that because carlos Santana is a beast with the guitar and so is jimi Hendrix so I think Santana is directly behind him
Sounds right to me.
Melissa Rieger yes, but Carlos is on a whole different plane than Jimmy. You can’t compare them bc they’re both so damn good but in complete different era’s & genre’s of music!!! I have a list of my fav guitar players & I never compare them bc they’re all so freakin’ talented!!! 😎🎶🎸🎼
I heard a story a long time ago about Jimi. Goes something like this. Jimi was on tour in England. Paul McCartney got a hold of Eric Clapton and wanted to go see Jimi play. Before the first song was over, McCartney leaned over to Clapton and said "This changes everything." Pretty high praise from a rock & roll legend.
bruh I heard Clapton cried when he heard Jimi play lol dunno how true that is tho
@@benjamin-papa Mike Bloomfield, who was a famous blues player, upon hearing Jimi for the first time, put his guitar away and didn't pick it up again for a year.
It's true
@@benjamin-papa Thats not the story. The actual story is Jimi walked into a Cream gig and murdered Killing Floor, a song Clapton hadn't mastered. To quote a base player who was there 'As far as I remember, he plugged into my bass amp and he did a version of Killing Floor. He blew us all away".
he then wrote sunshine my love.... to describe how he felt about jimi
The audience is in shock and awe while Jimi is calmly making love to his guitar. Remember they never seen anything like that. If you are in shock imagine them.
When God was handin' out the 'cool' gene, Jimi got back in line like 500 times.
Coolest cat evahhhhhhh.......
God: haven't i seen you in this line before
Jimi: Nah man
Hahaha. Damn straight! His stage performance was excellent.
Fun fact: If you notice, his guitar is upside down. Apparently left-handed guitars were hard to come by, so he flipped over and restrung standard right-handed Fender Stratocasters.
Very true. His sound is a direct result of his adaptation. Which has inspired legions to his sound. Another Champion southpaw.
And, although not shown in this video, Jimi would play both rhythm AND lead on the same guitar. It's a technique that was originally from the Celts. Mother Maybelle Carter popularized it in the US in the 1930s with The Carter Family playing Old-Fashioned Hill Country music, aka Country music.
@Scotty Davlin yes he was ambidextrous. My grandfather was too. Back in the day teachers would make children right with their right hand even if they were left-handed.
Facts
Yeah, mine is the same because I'm a lefty. Jimi is who inspired me.
Shaq...man, you good people
Music brings us together. Truth.
Music is colorless.
Yes, what better way to symbolize synchronicity and unity than music. Powerful.
Love brother
Jimi Hendrix IS the greatest rock guitar player EVER.
kblinn68 Terry Kath is better, Jimi even said that himself
He’s the greatest guitar player ever of all genres
No sir. One of the best yes.
Correction, the greatest guitarist ever.

Greatest and most technically proficient are two totally different questions.
Woodstock! Listen to Jimmy play the star spangled banner!!!!! You'll lose your mind!!!
Separate Realities facts. His freaking guitar was speaking literally
Greatest version ever sad no one truely appreciated him until it was too late
First. Finally a Jimi Hendrix song.
Hey u should also react to All along the watchtower, another great one from Jimi
Agreed, I suggested watchtower as well.
All along the Watchtower is my favorite. 💯
YES!!!!
YEEESSSSSSSS!!!!!!
Yesss please Shaq.
Best guitarist ever!! Just remember he used to play left handed... and back in the 60s they didn't make left handed guitars cheap back then so he used to play a right handed guitar upside down, he was fucking incredible
Josh Hughes "they didn't make left handed" yes they did. They just weren't cheap
Josh Hughes ( He also reversed the strings)
Josh Hughes for real💯🔥🔥🔥
They prob did exist but yea, he def used a RH guitar in a LH position. But let’s not forget that if he didn’t hit the right note, he would bend the note til he hit the right note. What a beast, the God Hendrix
And that’s why his sound was so unique. Badass MoFo...............!
ONE OF MY FAVORITE QUOTES JIMMY WAS BEFORE HIS TIME.
"When the power of love overcomes love of power the world will know peace." JIMMI HENDREX
"Knowledge speaks, wisdom listens" another great jimi quote
That's deep.. but very true
Jamie Lake-Boyd spell his name properly
You just gotta love jimMi and jimMY hendrEx, am I right
You dont know shit. Poser . JImi Hendrix , James Marshall Hendrix, Johnny Allen Hendrix. My fav Quote from Jimi was " I'm the one whos gonna die when its time for me to die , SO let me live, my life , the way , I want to."
"I've never listened to him before, but alot of people tell me he's the greatest guitarist of all time, and I agree with them!." Wtf Shaq lol
Hahaha
"Move over Rover and let Jimi take over!" And he did just that.LEGEND. Rest in peace, what a loss:-(
the thing is, this track was so way ahead of its time, people didn't know how to react at the time, remember this was the first time anything like this was played/televised. he was a genius
Jimi must have seemed like a space alien that just landed on the table at dinner time. Nothing those kids were seeing made any sense to them. Jimi was a ground breaker and an earth shaker. Best there ever was and ever will be.
True dat. For sure.
No dude, if you want to watch a Jimi performance, you have to watch Voodoo Child @ Woodstock
Chile?
@@greatglorious4855 Whatever floats your boat
@@greatglorious4855 It's both. In lyrics he wrote by hand in Slight Return he used both Child and Chile.. So either name is right.

Great suggestion!
Yes!!!!
Hell yeah
That was a classic moment in history for sure!

It's a pretty dark song, especially for the "Summer of Love" 1967.
Oroborus
Just an old blues song from that genre that Jimi out his brand on
Oroborus. Saw Jimi in 1967 at Spalding Lincolnshire in what was probably the first ever open air festival in England, when I was an 18 year old student. The headliners were The Move and The Moody Blues. There were a lot of unknowns on the same bill apart from Jimi, like Pink Floyd and Cream, we knew who Clapton was because of John Mayall and the Beano album. Dont know who the promoter was but he must have had an eye for greatness. I don't think any of us realised what we were witnessing, we were lost in a cloud of dope smoke, saw Jimi again at Isle of Wight in 1970, by then I was a committed Jimi nut and have been ever since.😁
The summer of "love" took place during the time of urban riots.
Please do a reaction to Jimi Hendrix “Axis Bold as Love” song. It’s awesome
I have actually started to listen to rap because of your videos. Thanks for the eye opening reactions, you’re the best!!!
You definitely gotta give the wind cries Mary a listen Jimi was a humble and phenomenal guitarist who was a genre bender all of his songs are timeless
My all time favorite!
Jimi Hendrix - Purple Haze, you must see that why he called greatest guitarist
In my opinion
Performing cunilingus on a guitar is illegal in 12 states.
All in the southern US...

More like the Midwest!
Hmmm...i thought it would have been more.
I've always called it "Stratolingus" lol
"We are all music-lovers." - no life shaq
Well said!😍😍😍
Re: the audience. Jimmy is from 2019. The white audience was from the Sixties. They were normal for the pre-LSD, pre-Woodstock Sixties. I guarantee you they were never the same after watching him that day forward.👽
For me jimi Hendrix is the greatest black artist ever. Ain't no one like jimi . We know he rocking it heaven. Long live the 27 club legend.
Music has no color, music is music. Preach coach. That's tuff. Jimi played the guitar in ways no one else did before him. Yes he was playing with his tongue.
Love Jimi.. U gotta check out Stevie Ray Vaughan now,. His biggest fan.. "Little wing" live.. Jimi wrote it and it's beautiful.. Thx for this coach
Gabe Ellis Stevie’s Voodoo Child was also fucking excellent.
Jimi is a God, always will be. The thing that sets Jimi apart from everyone else, is he has soul, an unending amount of it. There are technical players that are faster, but it's soulless. I doubt anyone will ever do again what he did. A God. And what you said about color, it's true. Why are we so hung up on a damn color at this point in our evolution. We are human. Great video!
Also watch Jimi playing Wild Thing at the Monterey Pop Festival- when he humps then sets the guitar on fire.
Polite? I’m thinking they were actually speechless, like a being from the future of time and space appeared before them and blew their minds
1. Love ya and your reactions from a mid 50’s old fat white guy.
2. You’re awesome.
3. Listen and react to Watchtower by Jimi. One of many songs associated with the Vietnam War era.
One of the most iconic Jimi moment is when he played the national anthem at Woodstock, check it out!!
Then take it back to the mid 90's and react to (I got 5 on it (Remix) luniz)
Yes the National Anthem by him is Badass!
Jimi the GOAT!! Imagine what he would have accomplished if he had lived longer! Great vid Coach!!🔥🤘🏻
Imagine what Jimi Hendrix and Cliff Burton could have done together!
Michael Hice 🤯🤯🤯🤘🏻
Jimi the G.O.A.T. Paige right?
Before he died he said he was going to take time off to learn music theory and recording tevhmiques. A load of musicians in the 90s covered a bunch of his songs by deconstructing them and writing recording them very differently. The album is called 'in from the storm' well worth a listen

Jimi just imprinted on all of us humans and journeyed on...he was way beyond, and those kids didn't know what they just witnessed back in 67/68!!
He changed everything and left handed to boot!! 👍🏽🤜🏽
There will never be another Jimi he was definitely one of a kind what makes him even more fascinating is not only did he help to popularize/revolutionize the use of the electric guitar but he was also a self taught guitar player and didn't know how to read music well which only further adds to his legendary status knowing that a lot of his music was coming from his soul and the feeling he was trying to communicate he showed people the potential of an instrument and that it was much more than that it was an extension of oneself RIP to The Voodoo Child
Whoever the f*** talked him into Hendrix rocks! Can't believe that you didn't know Hendrix though coach!
This reaction gave me goosebumps, watching him watch jimmy for the 1st time ! back in the day EVERYONE went to the club to see him. The Beatles, Clapton, Dylan, EVERYONE used to go see him live! It was around this time that people actually started dancing at live shows, with the coming of the Beatles and the Stones, but here, i think it was more about just never seeing anything like this before. Not so much being polite, people just didnt know how to react.
So true... the crowd was stunned into silence

Axis bold as love. The 2nd studio album from the Jimi Hendrix experience. MASTERPIECE.
Stevie Ray Vaughn has the soul like Jimi..!! Texas Flood..!!!
All along the watchtower next. Played a lot but still my favorite. Something about the way he plays guitar in that song.
The first man to make the guitar talk. Yes, played with his teeth, behind his head.......and behind his back and between his legs. One word to describe Jimi.....GENIUS! I know. I saw him more than once live.
Okay first and second of all… the teeth playing. Top notch. Also when he was playing behind his head those kiddos seemed like they really had NO idea what magic was happening before their poor little eyes. Goddamit
Stevie Ray Vaughan - Voodoo Child - One Night in Texas - TRUST ME!!!!
Yes sir SRV ! Do it coach and i FN guareentee you will say THATS TUFF !
YES!!!! SRV for the win!!!!!!!!!!
1st off, love SRV! But personally i find Jimi's version to be so so much better
Yeah I was going to make a request for SRV since you love the guitar so much. If you are looking for an eargasm, listen to some Stevie Ray. He is another one of those guitarists that you can tell right away its them simply by hearing them on the guitar. One of the most popularly known songs that you probably already heard is Love and Joy. But if you really want to hear him go off on the guitar then another song I would suggest is Texas Flood.
Absolutely
_There was never anyone close to Jimi._
His guitar was an extension of his own body. It’s the most incredible thing I’ve ever seen in music. He was a master of his craft.
*_RIP JIMI HENDRIX._*
Keven W as someone who likes both they are completely different and both require an incredible level of skill but in different ways that make them equally as impressive and challenging
Kenzie Macfarelan
👆 Big, big facts Kenzie. Thank you for not obsessing over every single little thing that it makes you miss the entire point. Much respect to Carlos Santana (who did things unlike anyone else in an incredible way).
Not all artists are cut from the cloth of greatness, but when you hear it, you know it.

Yes
And stevie ray VAUGHN covered alot of Jimi Hendrix songs because Jimi was his favorite
I’ve been BEGGING Shaq to do SRV!!!
There's an AMAZING three hour Jimi Hendrix documentary out there, I highly recommend it! It details his childhood, rise to fame, stardom, downfall, and legacy.
Jimi was the first to really push the frontier of guitar effects and distortion and really embrace the technology that came with the electrification of guitars, and he was also a genius level-player, he could play left or right-handed guitars, he recorded some songs BACKARDS, in the short time that he was around he laid the foundation of much of hard rock and his music is still brilliant and remains standard studying material for anyone who is serious about being an electric guitarist.
The crowd was basically in shock of what they were witnessing in that moment. Witnessing pure greatness right before their eyes!🎸🎵🎶🎼🔥
Please react to Jimi Hendrix - Along the Watchtower
Zyptic yyyyeeeessss!!!
Red House would be a good one also.
Especially since Bob Dylan wrote it.. it’s like a 2 for 1 special.

Jimi live at monterey pop - wild thing... WILD THING
I saw Jimi in concert in SLC and the audience was white (all us hippies) and we were in awe of the man. He became a music God that night for those of us there. Ran into him again at a coffee shop as he came in for a quick meal before his flight. He was a nice guy and thanked us for telling him how much we appreciated him and his music. Was sad that he died so young.
This was 1966, before modern digital technology. This is a Fender Stratocaster plugged in, without processing. The guitarist is creating the music, period.
I really love watching your reactions. The joy you express experiencing these songs for the first time is awesome. Makes me kind of feel like discovering some of these songs for the first time all over again!
You know Jimi Hendrix lived with the Isley Brothers. Back in the day when Jimi was broke and homeless, they took him in. Jimi played with them on a few tracks. Ernie Isley talked about listening to Jimi practicing this song in his house.
Ernie tried to imitate his style a lil you can hear it in a couple of their songs like "Whose that lady"
Ernie Isley could rock! Not as good as Hendrix but Ernie put down some tasty solos!
He played guitar with hands behind his back with his tongue. One handed. Alot of crazy ways. There all high on acid Coach
Another HUGE factor that Jimi's the best is that he is playing a right handed guitar upside down left handed. And yes, I know hes always played left handed. That's beyond amazing and the master does it flawlessly. RIP Jimi.
Hendrix was the real deal, man. A self-taught guitarist in every sense of the word. There's a reason he's considered one of the great legends of rock 'n roll. Even if, somehow, you didn't like his music, you GOTTA respect him. I can definitely recommend y'all listen to more of his stuff sometime. 'Wind Cries Mary', 'All Along the Watchtower', 'Purple Haze', and his rendition of the Star-Spangled Banner are all classics.
*YEEEAH!*
_Now THAT is what I’m talking about Shaqman! There was no one like Hendrix! Yo, if you’re doing Hendrix, then you should check out Santana too!_ 😌🙏🏼

Yess I love Santana..he used to come and play at fair he in Tucson every year. I have seen him play every year for 5 years in a roll. He stopped coming though.
Maria Mañge
How cool Maria! That’s so awesome!
I’ve seen him live once. His style of guitar playing takes you to some incredible places. There’s so much soul in it. I’m Hispanic like Santana, and it was cool watching someone that looked like me go up there and do rock music with the best of them. When I was a kiddo, my older brother would blast Santana’s music in the mornings. Today, I have a ginormous framed photograph on my wall in my hallway of Santana playing guitar. He’s definitely an incredible artist.
@@TheRealBizWiz yea I'm hispanic too. It is cool watching him play.
Hendrix is the Godfather of electric Guitarists. Stevie Ray Vaughn was great as well. But Hendrix changed the game. Voodoo child is just a taste of what he could do. Good choice to react to Coach. Watch his autobiography

Don't forget Randy Rhodes

stevie was the only one who could pull off jimi covers. i’m actually related to srv by marriage. rip to both of them.
He is a part of “the 27 club”, yes. I’d also like to note that he played a right-handed guitar left handed and was self taught,
My first time.in serious love! When I was a kid. Heart broken he had died just before I was born!! That man played like no one else. Almost envious of the journey hell take you on. Phenomenal
The most important part is he played left handed on the right handed guitar. Some who are considered absolutely great and well known will tell you they were in absolute awe when he would grab any right handed guitar and start thrashing and making it make noises they never heard before. That was part of his unique sound by using the rught hand guitar left handed. He was also fairly musocally educated.
That is actually a cover and many of Jimis songs were covers. Many of them were from old Delta Blues folks that not many people had any knowledge of. They original writers and players of the songs have more exposure now due to his covers.
That being said he is obviously the greatest guitarist ever period. The behind the back came from Chuck Berry if I remember correctly and some of his other moves that he made his own.
You are not tripping bro they are tripping on acid
especially that dude in the sunglasses
Hendrix was always in the zone...his ears, my God his ears heard things we will never know
Jimi was amazing, but one of the originators of rock & roll was actually Chuck Berry. Check out some of his tracks, "Johnny B Goode", "Maybellene" or one of my personal faves, "Promised Land".
Keep on keeping on! Love the reactions!
The goat. He set the standard for everyone that came after him. Even Clapton couldn’t believe how good Hendrix was. He was a force of nature
He was opening for The Monkees ( a pop band) - so this crowd wasn’t ready for him. He left the tour in a few weeks. He was like Marty in Back to the Future in the rock guitar scene- the crowd just saw the future.
Loved it! People lived in the moment back then. Hell, even camera film was expensive. And the trick playing was very Rock n’ Roll! Try Foxy Lady.
He played a right handed guitar upside down that’s the real beauty of it.
Good to see a RUclipsr who looks at comments i remember recommending this. Thanks shaq
You a “hip-hop head” and I’m a “rocker”, but as you said: “we all music lovers”! Since you checked out Hendrix you may as well check out Stevie Ray Vaughn. I watched a Hendrix documentary years back. They said when he woke up in the morning, he strapped his guitar on. Cooking breakfast, all throughout the day, even walking to go out with friends at night he always had his guitar locked and loaded. He would practice anytime any place. Very very few people in life have ever shown suck total dedication to a craft. Rip to a legend, but also a man who forever changed music as we know it. ☝️
I love watching people get there first exposure to Jimi Hendrix! Other songs of his I would recommend are, The Wind Cries Mary, Purple Haze, Foxy Lady, All Along the Watchtower and of course the Star Spangled Banner played at Woodstock Music Festival. As far as the audience, yes it was a different era, but also this is an English audience. They are kind of known for being quiet and reserved. With some exceptions it’s still kind of their thing.

Well there's another Jimi Urban Legend. Obviously you don't know about the strength of 60s/70s acid. It wasn't just some sort of speed. Don't be mistaken, if he did that much he would've been worthless on stage.
