BLACK LIVE VIEW.........Has anyone had this happen? I have been searching the net for a solution since the first day I got this piece of crap camera. There are some that have had the same problem with no solution, and Sony will not talk about the issue. What happens is you connect the camera and everything looks good, but there is no live view. Not only that, if you take a picture or video, it shows up black. It's like a part of the lens is not working. Sony would not repair it under warranty because they say I did it.....really?.....right out of the box?.....WTF!!!
do you all have problems with the wifi disconnecting? please help that's my only flaw, it randomly disconnects VERY often. any help or tips? would the firmware update fix this? (how do i get/do the firmware update also, would like to upgrade quality either way)
i would like to ask something.. how i can get the ISO configuration on playmemories while using QX10? i dont have the ISO icon like you have.. i am using it on my Asus Zenphone 5..
Excellent review, an outstanding example of how these sorts of reviews should be done. I have a question. When you are using your phone or tablet as a remote viewfinder, how does the quality of that live streaming image compare to the quality of the final photo?
I received my QX-10 yesterday and just finished updating the firmware on it. No problems, just follow the instructions. I do need to say though Sony's instructions are not quite as step by step as I would write, but thankfully I know my way around installing software/firmware via the computer. A novice might have some difficulties. However, it's all done now and everythng works. Lag time .. well.. yeah a little, but not enough to bother me. (maybe I'm just not that picky) Also wanted to add I have a Samsung Galaxy SIII with an Otterbox case on it and the little camera clip fits on it perfectly - nice and snug. (this was a bit of a concern when I saw some noting it only stretches to about 3") However, it fits almost like a custom fit on mine. Going to a house warming tomorrow so i might have to just take some pictures. :) Thanks again Graham for your videos. They are so helpful.
Graham Houghton i also have the QX10 and i am not bothered at all by the lack of flash, i went for a walk during earthhour and photographed a few buildings, this was during the night and the pictures came out great!
Worked just fine. We were inside and there was plenty of light. No problems at all and I shared them on FB with the friends who had the party and got lots of praise. Had people asking me about the camera too.

Your videos are always so awesome. The pictures/video taken in the park setting are so gorgeous - the sky looks like a vivid painting. :) I'm hoping to get a QX-10 very soon (Sony's marked them down). I'm a gadget hound and this fascinates me. Thanks so much for sharing this.
Do the pics that are saved to your phone go on the phones memory card or do they save to the phones internal storage...... Also is it possible for the camera to be used with Skype or Google Hangouts.
good question, as far as i know the camera does not support skype or simular video streaming apps. i think it is possible to select to where the pictures will be saved. just make sure you got the latest firmware on the camera (can be found on Sonys homepage) and the latest version of the PlayMemories mobile app.
Yes there is and it just adds the facility to use the shutter button on the camera with an indication of focus lock on the smartphone. I'll be uploading a video soon of the upgrade.
the connection time is really quick with Sonys play memory app, connection is far superior to panasonics nfc connection/pairing. The qx10 is ready to shoot in about 15-20 seconds i would say

Hi, no there is no flash facility with these lens cameras, you could use your mobile as a light source to add lighting but flash is out of the question.
i don't think so, if no WiFi is started it will just show the connection screen, but i do believe you can still change some settings from that screen (talking about the "PlayMemories mobile" app)
Full control from the USB port with live view would be a fantastic upgrade for this camera because it would be a great idea for a Quad-copter camera but would have to have a method to feed control and video out in real time to the on-board transmitter and receiver.. The WIFI would work but has way to short of range .. If they could have a live video out and a wired control input you could connect to a 5.8ghz transmitter and the crafts controller .. The market for such is going to be in the Millions ...

I don't use this camera all that often but I have not had disconnection issues. I usually am within a few feet from the smartphone when I use it.

How do I get the raw or best quality from my qx10? Upload off sim? I don't want it to take 2mb photos
pls upload zoom capablity in video mode (normal wide mode and tele)

having no flash might be an issue however the low light performance isn't too bad. I'd be interested to hear how you got on with it.
