His interactions with Hunter broke me- Jasper knew that Hunter was.... A child? A Creation? A something that Jasper loved. A Something that was his. If Hunter only knew how much jasper had adored him.
Draikinator covers a LOT of this sort of thing in their related works to Jasper's story, I HIGHLY Recommend them if you loved this one! Thank you so much for listening and we're so so so glad you enjoyed it.

More to say! What an act of love to be touched by something someone's written to decide to bring it life with your own voice. I keep thinking about how this is a story of love, in the end. The love of a show that Nate created a character who loves, and they then created the fic, and the animation and then you loved them and their work enough to create this book. It makes me misty eyed to see true passion like this, in both the animation and the fic and the audiobook! I'm insane about Jasper's love for Hunter. I've reread the fics again. Ouuh.

*screams a few times* this is so well done. The voice acting was on point, and the story strong and believable. I can just picture belos revelling in some physical torture to get his way, even if we mostly see him go for psychological in the show.

And I do think the show gets away with as much as it can--we see that Hunter has endured physical abuse re: he looks like crap when we meet him, but the show also goes out of its way to imply that Belos is the one who hit him and made the scar. Without showing us physical abuse, it does show that Hunter does not move away when Belos reaches out to strike him, which is EXTREMELY indicative of a physically abusive relationship that a Disney show can't portray directly. Similar to how the word "divorce" was never used to describe Odalia and Alador's separation, or honestly? Even how they insisted on using terms like husband and wife when Dana's suggested this is really not important to witches at all assuming they even had words for it. I'm so pleased you liked the voice acting! A couple of people have mentioned that torture scene and part of me is like ehehehehe and the other part is like oh man. Because like with portraying or writing about trauma you're empathizing with the physical feeling to get to that "Man, what would I sound like if someone was smashing my hand under their full weight? What do people REALLY sound like when theyre sobbing?" And there is an upper limit for what makes sense to have in an audiobook--so I am glad it worked.
Dear stars it's true! The number of times he's just... standing there, clearly expecting a beating... my heart! the agitated squealing sounded just right for Jasper here. The uncontrolled chaos as he tries to deny the emotions slamming him in the face. Also it took a second listen-through to realise that the plush he made himself isn't just a cute toy... it's SPRIG from AMPHIBIA! How did that pass me by?!
I wasn't sure what to expect coming into this, initially, while I've completed my second listen-through in less than 24 hours. My life is different now. This is all I can think about.

The purpose of art is to make people feel, and that me and Nate's efforts could do that for you brings joy to my heart. Additionally, audiobook and fanfic is so personal. MAny people who love fanfic in written form or love auidobooks dont always love the other thing. I was very concerned initially about making a podfic, especially one that has such beloved voice actors attached to it. It helps that Jasper is an OC, but there are mostly canon characters in this. It is such a great compliment that you can hear them through me and it felt okay to listen to.

The ads are really taking me out of the experience 😐 Edit: that took me a while to get through. The ads are a real problem since they weren't timed properly nor were they given enough of a chance to play without interrupting the story. That said, it's brilliantly written. (Spoilers below) I feel the "five words" were far too long for a final act and improperly worded; little kid not withstanding. Just stating "he lied" is more than enough to get the message across, plus with bloodied fingers, that's all he could probably get out before bleeding out. -There's also the improbability of it still being there, given where the kid died, the amount of foot traffic, blood disintegrating over time long before the flesh melted into bone, but I feel I'm already being a bit pedantic as it is so- It's interesting how they tied Hunter to being raised by Belos to Jasper's final wish, though I do prefer the canonical implications that it's just Belos being pathetic and trying to recreate his brother. Also the violence in this is a bit too much; yes Hunter's scar is bad in appearance, but to suggest this is how it happens is just too edgy, never mind the beatings Jasper went through. I can see Belos being like this in/near the beginning, but now? Just one generation before Hunter? Mmm, seems extreme... Belos is a bully, yes, but he's pragmatic as well. To be this openly violent, even with the doors shut in his palace is a fool's errand and I can't see him doing this. Plus, God, the amount of faith Jasper had in Belos with that final promise. I know why it happens this way, but it's all meta and makes no in-universe sense. (Okay, maybe it's the blood loss, but still!) The voice acting is really well done. I didn't cringe once, which is saying something because I am all too sensitive to second hand embarrassment. I loved your performance of each character, though the voices could've been a smidge more distinct. It was hard telling Jasper and Darius apart but other than that, 9.5/10. I also loved your passion and you expressed the emotions flawlessly.

And sure, plenty of fanfic stretches realism for probability and sometimes stuff is just vibes, particularly like the He Is Lying to You bit--although it is possible for someone with a bad enough nerve injury and just enough time to do that and leave behind visible marks. The grimwalker graveyard is enclosed and has very little foot traffic. Jasper having faith in Belos for that final exchange is a big part of the agony of that scene, I think. He's doing all that for the CHANCE that Belos will follow through on his word, which highlights that power differential, the misery of creator vs the created in this particular way. Jasper is a pretty warped character and one could argue that with HOW warped his perception of reality is that he's *clinically insane*. What you have observed isn't unintentional! GOD thank you for letting me know about the voice acting, my number one fear was that people would hear this and go "AH I CRINGED" and that you did not is very nice to hear. I'm of the school of audiobooks that prefers more acting than not, and in the aim to create what I wanted to exist, I'm glad that you enjoyed it.
