I've been listening to Mozart regularly for over 40 years. How is it that I am only discovering these pieces now? Both sets of variations are terrific and tremendously enjoyable. It's a mystery why pieces like these are not heard on classical radio. Thanks Bartje for bringing wonderful, lesser known works of Mozart to light.
Why are there two versions of the violin part in the first one? If my reading of the German is correct, those are the Breitkopf on top and oldest edition on bottom. Why though?
It is rather interesting. For most of the piece, it looks like the bottom line might almost be able to function as a second (or accompanying) violin part.
I think they're from alternative versions, written in this score as the first violin was in the Breitkopf & Härtel (earlier) edition, and the second violin from the Johann André (first) edition

I like to visit this channel for two reasons: 1) I like to hear unknown music of popular composers. 2) Discover new names.
Wow, very beautiful. Mozart is wonderful compositor!

Wunderkind Wunderbar

Why? To compare.

@@joshuaharper372 , that is what I thought too. It looks much more like an independent complimentary part than an alternative reading.
2. Six Variations on "Hélas, j'ai perdu mon amant", K.360/374b (Vienna, 1781) 14:34
Ah. Owner’s classic
What is the second violin part for? Can they be played together? If they are alternative versions, what is the provenance of each?

But the Urtext Barenreiter edition AND the manuscript doesn't have the second violin. idk honestly where Johann André got the idea
@@losscores sometimes publishers add their own parts for some reason
