The year the white tiger zord came out, I worked one or two blocks from a local toy store. The line up of adults wishing to purchase it for their kids was incredible.
Without spoiling too much of the story of the Boom Studios Power Rangers comics (mainly due to allow people to discover it for themselves), it's basically the mature and gritty Power Rangers story we've been hoping for all these years.
I was 7 years old when the show premiered. I was at my babysitter’s house and I saw something on the tv that blew my mind: a show combining dinosaurs, martial arts, transformers, Godzilla and shredding guitars.
I was 5yrs old when MMPR aired. I am just about to turn 32 and I now watch it with my boys. I’m 26 seasons and three movies (and countless toys) deep, Dan! I’m way too far down the rabbit hole...
you're the alternate reality of me. i always wondered what would have happened if i didn't stop watching the series... happy to hear you kept on watching 🙂
6:47 "Difficulties maintaining stock levels." That... that is an understatement... I worked at ToysRUs that year. We didn't dare go out on the floor with them. We would cut off the top of the box and slide it out the back room door. To this day I can still hear the horrible sound of rending and clawing. And the screaming. My God, the screaming. Then I'd have to deal with them three days later in returns because those first figures were terribly breakable.
I picture you as a grizzled vet-type, sitting in the dark corner of a bar, downing shots of whiskey & w/ several overfull ashtrays around you. you hear some younger guys' casually talking about Power Rangers, & interject w/ this story. after telling this to them, you angrily punch through a window, & walk off in to the night.
I was 8 years old when Power Rangers started so I was right in the target demographic. I watched from Mighty Morphin' to the end of In Space (AKA The Zordon Era). I tuned back in during Dino Thunder when I saw that Tommy (my favorite Ranger) was back. Then, I started watching the new seasons live with Dino Charge (which is awesome!). The show has its ups and downs. Its good seasons and bad seasons. But it is almost always fun. As for the toys, I had a ton of Zordon Era toys growing up. And when Bandai started the Legacy Collection re-releasing updated collector's versions of old toys, I bought in hard. Now that Hasbro has bought the franchise, I have sold most of my Bandai toys and have started fresh with the Lightning Collection. I have every figure released so far (3 Green Ranger/Putty 2 packs) and plan to keep buying them. I love the new 6 inch scale figures!
HA! I did the exact same thing as far as watching the series. But stopped after watching Dino Thunder. Now I'm watching all the original Sentai staring with Zyurangers and ending with Denji Sentai Megaranger since that's where I stopped watching with the American counter part.
I know what you mean. I've been a fan since I was six years old. Those Lightning Collection figures are awesome and so are the comics. The Power Rangers have had amazing comics runs lately. It's ironic how far the franchise has come. It's as beloved by young fans as it is by adults.

Power Rangers was one of my all time favourite things growing up. Started all the way back with Mighty Morphin and stuck with it all the way up to Dino Thunder in 2004, by which point I was already far too old for it. I only got back into it about 18 months or so ago through stuff like the Boom! Studios’ awesome comics and the amazing web series Power Rangers HyperForce. While Mighty Morphin is a classic, and will always hold a special place in my heart, I also like the other seasons, such as Time Force, In Space, Zeo, Lightspeed Rescue, Wild Force, Dino Thunder, etc.
Jason will always be the best power ranger and as well as the best red ranger. RIP Thuy Trang. I'm glad Austin St. John shared some fun memories of her in his channel on her death anniversary.
I think an interesting idea for a follow-up to this (maybe as an Oddities) would he the various attempts are tapping into Power Rangers' success, both by other toymakes AND Saban/Bandai themselves. VR Troopers, Big Bad Beetle Borgs, Superhuman Samurai Syber-Squad, The Mystic Knights of Tir Na Nog, Tattooed Teenage Alien Fighters from Beverly Hills... Bibleman...
RPM was a LITTLE different, in that it was set in a post apocalyptic alternate timeline where the villain had already succeeded and the Rangers are defending the last bastion of humanity while attempting to reclaim the Earth from their omnicidal overlord. Beast Morphers is kind of like a prequel in terms of how the virus hasn't conquered the Earth yet but otherwise sounds like the backstory for RPM's setting.
@@CanadianPale Absolutely not. I like Beast Morphers. It's better written than anything from the last 10 years. The characters are likeable and interesting. The worst Rangers ever would be Megaforce.
By all rights, I should never have been interested in Power Rangers, because I was 19 when it first aired. Fortunately, however, I was in a circle of friends that was actively seeking out "camp" entertainment - Full Moon Entertainment movies and things like that. We latched onto Power Rangers hard. Great video!
Really great video as always, guys! My first season that I watched start to finish was Lightspeed Rescue, which is in an era of Rangers that Bandai America kinda ignored for a while, so it’s been really awesome seeing Hasbro give almost immediate figure-rep with Lightspeed’s predecessor, Lost Galaxy. Here’s hoping we see even more early 2000’s teams in the next waves!
I was in either in ECS or Grade 1 when this show came out. MAN, the memories!! Such a simpler time and a great era to be a young kid!! Power Rangers was my jam!!
Ain't it a trip that a show made in the early 90s was still POPPIN OFF in the early 2000s, that's how I found them, and THANK THE STARS that TV channels were cool to keep up the reruns. The only downside of being a kid back then was not having the mental capacity to enjoy the rest of the PR shows and collect the merch! And being a kid at the turn of the Century was the best for television, toys, and games before things/reality got overcomplicated. I still love the movie despite it aging poorly, lots of nostalgia ingrained with Power Rangers for me! Thanks for the nostalgia fix because I'll look for any excuse to take the time to watch another fan explain cool bits of history about the show!
I've long since left behind Power Rangers for Super Sentai, but check in every new adaptation to see what inexplicable changes are made. That never disappoints. Especially since they're basically left with ToQger, Zyuohger, Lupinranger VS Patoranger, or Ryusoulger for their next series. I would love to see them try to adapt one of the first three, especially Zyuohger with the numbered building block mecha.
The original Super Sentai series are undeniably mostly better than Power Rangers. I was 11 when MMPR premiered and still enjoy the Power Rangers franchise as a whole though.
@@christiandacanay3086 I can almost guarantee they won't try Kyuranger. Unless they treat half the rangers as summons or something that would mean a 12-character main cast before getting into villains and any civilian characters. I can see it going LuPat then Ryusoulger or reversed, but Kyuranger feels like it would be as difficult to adapt as Zyuohger. Kyuranger for the sheer size of the cast, and Zyuohger for the laughable toyline. I read ToQger was passed over due to lack of interest in trains, but who knows.
Please make a history video or videos for the spinoffs; Beetle Borgs, VR Troopers, and Mystic Knights! Mystic Knights would work very well for your oddites series since it ended after only one season! I enjoy your channel very much, keep up with all your hard work!
Fun Fact, when Saban send Super Sentai to the US....the TV-Studios thought that the US-Kids are to stupid for the "complex" japanese storylines.... and still do :D
MMPR was my life growing up, and the bandai legacy line got me back into collecting. Hasbro has been killing it and I can't wait for more. Thanks for this video, I needed it
Power rangers is the one part of my childhood that I'm not only NOT nostalgic for but absolutely despise now. I cant have it whatsoever for some reason! The hasbro figures look excellent though!
Man, I was EVERYTHING Power Rangers when I was growing up. Flip head toys, Megazords, power buckles, masks, VHS of the show and movie (which I probably watched 100s of times) it lost me somewhere in the turbo series. Those were the carefree fun days. Miss that.
I remember power rangers in space was the first for me. Then I got really into it watched the first 10 seasons. Loved it then and still do. I love the boom studio comics.
You mention the Hasbro buyout but not the fact it was a super peculiar behind doors deal with just Saban and the head of Hasbro that has never been made public. Like even people in that industry think that's really weird.
Can't believe Haim Saban is worth nearly THREE BILLION DOLLARS. But then again, I'm kind of not surprised either, man knew what he was doing when it came to kid's media.
I'm 1st generation Mighty Mophin Power Rangers. I was around 7 at the time. What was there not to like, cool colorful costumes, ninja fighting, giant robot dinosaurs fighting giant monsters, rockin music. Once the original cast left is when I lost interest and felt I was getting to "old" for power rangers, but I'm still OG Power Rangers for life.
For me, it was Mystic Force. I manage to catch the first episode of Operation Overdrive and some of the Once a Ranger crossover. I tried to watch Jungle Fury but I could never catch it in time. At that point, I dropped out of Power Rangers entirely and started watching Super Sentai.
I was born in 1992, so I grew up on MMPR from watching my cousin’s VHS tapes. Yeah it seems really ridiculous now, but it was a huge part of my childhood and the original ranger outfits still look cool.
Power Rangers: The Movie was my favorite childhood movie and I still think it is a pretty solid movie considering the original premise with production that in some areas did and some areas didn't old very well. I still rewatch that movie out of nostalgia occassionally
I feel so used. When they marketed the toys I bought it hook line and sinker. Like they truly was marketing it to me. I could not get enough of that in the nineties. Even till this day I get a big smile hearing the theme
I remember me and my cousin and friends were really into power rangers, I had the dragon flute, zords, rangers and red ranger costume. Good times the golden area for me was the 90s and 2000s for alot of stuff.
Apparently it's from a fan project. Saban was planning a S2 of Time Force back in the day, and there was even talks of a Time Force movie, but then Disney bought the franchise and that stuff all got cancelled.
If Stan Lee had never let the Japanese live action spiderman happen we would never have gotten the transformers or power rangers as we know them today.
I respect that you still love that classic Sentai series and it certainly looks amazing. I also do highly respect Stan Lee and his part in the legacy of this series and his creations of many other amazing characters. Out of all the different videos talking about the backstory of Power Rangers as a brand, yours is certainly the best produced in my opinion. I have watched it five times. Some things have changed since you first released this video but it is still very respectful and entertaining! My blessings to anyone else who has also come back here and to your other videos on Power Rangers since we all heard about the tragic passing of JDF aka the most amazing and beloved actor of the franchise and who was part of six different seasons and a big inspiration throughout our childhoods! Still love your channel and videos! Power Rangers forever!

Arnold Schwarzenegger's "Jingle All The Way" (Turbo Man) was written by Randy Kornfield after witnessing his in-laws go to a Santa Monica toy store at dawn in order to get his son a Power Ranger

While Mighty Morphin is a classic, and will always hold a special place in my heart,
I also like the other seasons, such as Time Force, In Space, Zeo, Lightspeed Rescue, Wild Force, Dino Thunder, etc.
Jason will always be the best power ranger and as well as the best red ranger. RIP Thuy Trang. I'm glad Austin St. John shared some fun memories of her in his channel on her death anniversary.
Teenagers With Attitude totally proactive in this paradigm!
If only Thuy Trang was still around to witness and see the impact of the legacy she left behind
Bibleman...
Rita Repulsa was one of the best TV villains ever.
"Beast Morphers creates a completely original story."
Well, it was original when RPM did it.
@@OtakuUnitedStudio in other words, Beast Morphers = Worst Rangers Ever.
@@CanadianPale Absolutely not. I like Beast Morphers. It's better written than anything from the last 10 years. The characters are likeable and interesting. The worst Rangers ever would be Megaforce.
@@OtakuUnitedStudio LOL no.
@@CanadianPale Well, that's just, like,your opinion, man.
I'll tell those FCC regulations guys what my mother keeps telling me about these series: it's NOT a documentary!
Don't forget Kyuranger!
Was my favorite show as a kid, lots of great memories.
Why?
@@C4rea 'some reason' 🤣🤣🤣
3:14 that begs the question, could Battle Fever, Denjiman, and Sun Volcan be in the MCU?
*It's Morphing Time!*
Pterodactyl
Fun fact. Tokumei Sentai Gobusters had references to Power Rangers, including 'It's Morphing Time' and MegaZords.
Man, I was EVERYTHING Power Rangers when I was growing up. Flip head toys, Megazords, power buckles, masks, VHS of the show and movie (which I probably watched 100s of times) it lost me somewhere in the turbo series.
Those were the carefree fun days. Miss that.
I remember having a crush on the Green Ranger. I mean, the Pink Ranger!
Triny was my favorite. Well up until the Green Ranger, obviously.
9:20...
Imagine Rita attacks an sends a monster.
Power rangers: I guess we will sit tight. We don't want to send kids a bad message.
Rita destroys the city afterwards XD
You used a fan project logo for Time Force. Just... thought Id point it out
I remember power rangers in space was the first for me. Then I got really into it watched the first 10 seasons. Loved it then and still do. I love the boom studio comics.
Would love to see you pose Sun Vulcan figures next to MCU figures, to see what that would look like!
I remember getting the Megazord as a kid. Also taking all of my Nintendo villains and making them Power Rangers Monsters.
I see Mighty Morphing Power Rangers I click even though I’m two years late lol 💪🏾
Same 🤣🤣
As a lifelong power rangers fan & one who's followed this channel for awhile I've been waiting for this video. Thank you,I was not disappointed.
I didn’t know it was still so popular until my nephew went to his School as red ranger from Dino Charge. Genuinely amazing staying power!
13:25's finger punch sound effects brought joy into my life. more please.
Another awesome video! How's the wall? Does it still have the hole when Prime drove through?
I still thought the original Power Rangers movie was a fun pop corn movie.
You mention the Hasbro buyout but not the fact it was a super peculiar behind doors deal with just Saban and the head of Hasbro that has never been made public.
Like even people in that industry think that's really weird.
I want you to know everyone is talking about how the new me fantastic sculpt has your head Dan. The likeness is uncanny
I don’t know if you read through all the comments, but your channel is easily one of my favorites on RUclips. Just. So wholesome.
Great stuff. The Toys That Made Us just covered these toys on Netflix as well. Perfect timing.
I cant wait for all the sun Vulcan references
Power Rangers was my favorite show as a kid. I remember buying so many toys, almost as much as Star Wars toys.
The last time I kept up with Power Rangers was Power Rangers in Space.
😂😂😂
For me, it was Mystic Force. I manage to catch the first episode of Operation Overdrive and some of the Once a Ranger crossover. I tried to watch Jungle Fury but I could never catch it in time. At that point, I dropped out of Power Rangers entirely and started watching Super Sentai.
Last series I stayed interested in Power Rangers was Lost Galaxy.
Dino Thunder was the last I kept up with the franchise, mainly because Tommy was back and it was about dinosaurs. Dinosaurs are my Kryptonite. lol
@@rodney2x48 👍😂
My personal favorites are dino thunder and jungle fury.
Turbo is when the show jumped the shark...with cars...and somehow I still stuck around with the series until the end of Lost Galaxy.
I still want to see a version of _Forever Red_ based on all the adaptations of Gatchaman.
I was born in 1992, so I grew up on MMPR from watching my cousin’s VHS tapes. Yeah it seems really ridiculous now, but it was a huge part of my childhood and the original ranger outfits still look cool.
I wonder what would it be like if marvel
Adapted it’s like just imagine
@That Guy Why not
Power Rangers: The Movie was my favorite childhood movie and I still think it is a pretty solid movie considering the original premise with production that in some areas did and some areas didn't old very well.
Good times the golden area for me was the 90s and 2000s for alot of stuff.
why did Time Force's Logo say 2.0
Apparently it's from a fan project.
Saban was planning a S2 of Time Force back in the day, and there was even talks of a Time Force movie, but then Disney bought the franchise and that stuff all got cancelled.
If Stan Lee had never let the Japanese live action spiderman happen we would never have gotten the transformers or power rangers as we know them today.
Loved rangers from day 1 while inwas in hospital after surgery, sat in bed this show comes on and boom hooked I'm now 40 and still love it
brings back memories of owing the White Ranger toy where Tommy's head & helmet would switch when you press a button
Great video as usual, Dan! Believe it or not, at the Retro-Con we met at in Valley Forge, my friend Carmen and I found two carded Transforming Yellow Ranger Trini action figures that we were able to score for $5 a piece! Keep up the Great Work!
I wish they made the boom studios comic into an animated show
making me nostalgic, I miss the 90s
I don't think I've ever seen a video sponsored by Ebay before...
I remember when I first saw a MIGHTY MORPHIN promo, I thought "Wait! This is from the same source material DYNAMAN was from!'
I remember Power Rangers debuted out of order on Saturday on Fox and it was so popular it went to week days. The zords were amazing toys I only knew two people who had them
Teenaged Mutant Ninja Turtles and Power Rangers were my favourite things growing up as a kid. SO MUCH MERCHANDISE
Arnold Schwarzenegger's "Jingle All The Way" (Turbo Man) was written by Randy Kornfield after witnessing his in-laws go to a Santa Monica toy store at dawn in order to get his son a Power Ranger
Cool factoid. I love both.
