I absolutely love squirrel hunting with a flintlock. I use my .50 Hawken with a light load of 40FF and it’s very accurate at the 20/25 yards I shoot them and doesn’t destroy meat much more than a .22 hp. It gives me good practice for when I use it for deer and elk. I’ve come to realize if I wait until a shot opportunity comes that I can brace the gun on the side of a tree my accuracy goes to about 95% from the 30% if I’m shooting free hand. As for it not igniting when oiled I carry alcohol wipes, the little single packets used for glasses cleaning, and I wipe down frizen, stone, pan, and remove touchhole to wipe as well before I load it the first time. Then I have good ignition and no hang fire on first shot which is most important. Really been enjoying the channel Justin great job! I’d love one of those kit .32/36 long rifles some day!

Sometimes I use a .62 smoothbore flinter I built for turkey hunting when I take my Mt. Feist squirrel dog out. She does not like it when I miss with the .36, which is often. Glad to see you do this video I love to muzzle load hunt but I just have percussion rifles and want a flint lock .I know the pain of how everything must be right to use a rifle like that much less trying to film it and explain what your doing and making a successful hunt .my hat is off to you ! You have to love muzzle loading to do it it is not a lazy mans game even down to cleaning and maintaining a flintlock or percussion. You just can't shoot it and put it up in corner and let it sit till next season unless your going to use it for a boat oar !!! I know what it's like to break a ram rod too had one to splinter off and jam the sharp end into my palm .I know bring an empty 20 guage hull a place it over the end when I get my close to seating the last bit it is much easier on the palm .i now use those long none breakable ram rods and take a rubber dish glove to rap around the ram rod for grip it works great ! Hope this helps a little ! Hope to see more videos on muzzle loading and just maybe a cane pole fishing show i love to fish with those too people just forget what it used to be like but sometimes simple is just plain fun ! Good luck God bless and keep that young man on the waters and woods !
