    Well done. Wow that's amazing work.
    I'd love to hear/see an update and get your take on it three years later. How has the upkeep been?
    What would you change? Or add that you didn't think of then.
    Cheers!

      Thank you so much! The sound of the water really helps me relax. :) The work of building it created quite a bit of pain and stress though, but super glad we've got it now. :)

      J the Cooker well it definitely took away my depression so I’m glad you did. Isn’t it funny how we never see how what we do can effect someone we’ve never met....or possibly save a life? I’m definitely a subscriber. Gl to you and your beautiful family!

      +sweetboyro Thanks. the timelapse took a ton of time to put together, but glad I spent the time in recording. I had over a Terabyte of footage, but left out over a 1/3 of it because it was pretty boring or you couldn't exactly see what I was doing. :)

    • @gason5
      @gason5  8 лет назад +1

      +George Ofdjungle Thanks a lot. I have seen quite a few traditional pools turned into NSP's so that should make your job easier if you can mirror what some of those guys have done. They can be a little tricky because you have to ensure you have enough surface area with plants which diminishes your swimming area. I've seen some where they actually raised the water level over and above what was intended and built up berms to handle the additional water. Best of luck. Let me know if I can be of any assistance. Cheers.

    I have to ask, what pumps and controls did you use and how much energy do they use monthly? Energy consumption is on my list to address in our design.

    • @gason5
      @gason5  9 лет назад

      +Colin Quinn , I use one Intelliflo 3HP pump and it turns over all the water in 8 hours which is a bit less than I'd like, but it seems to cycle well enough to keep the algae back. when It's running it's pulling 2300 kw and I think I calculated that it'll cost me about $50/month to run the pump.

    • @gason5
      @gason5  9 лет назад

      +scott dickson happy to share. I used the Intelliflo 3HP pump with a UV sterilizer to help clean out anything in the water. I also have a Helix pond skimmer which seems to work well. It was a bit on the pricey side and even though I really like it going with a cheaper option would probably be better. It probably would have been better to have a second skimmer installed on the other side of the dock to keep more water flowing.

    Awesome to see it in the process...! Question though, I've been in the steel wall in ground pool business for years and have built easily 100+ pools, so I have knowledge of the process of commercially built pools.. I'm curious as to why you put the liner in before the retaining wall... Aesthetics wise It looks nicer, but the exposed wood throws me off I guess... I'm sure there's a reason. I just figured similar to a vinyl lined pool you'd want to cover it entirely and have a more natural look. Thanks for sharing! Hats off for you doing it as basically a 1 man op!

    I am currently building mine right now. You have a great video and it has helped me when I don't really understand the next step...What type of pump/skimmer did you use? What is the actual size of your swimming area?
    Great job on it! Looks awesome!

      Adam G Swimming area is 30ft x 25ft. I estimate there is over 50k gallons so I needed to circulate my water at least 3x per day. I bought the 3 HP Intelliflo which runs at 130 gpm. As for the skimmer, I use the Helix skimmer which works really well for auto-fill/auto-drain and catches surface debris, it was a i bit overpriced and I wished I had gone with two skimmers which would have worked better for my setup. Hope yours is turning out! It's totally worth it. We've swam in ours nearly every day. Let me know if I can help answer anything.

    Very nice! Was there a significant cost difference between this and a traditional pool? Aesthetically, there is no comparison. This is awesome!

    Man, you are a beast! And it looks like the town and family rallied together to help as well :D I've been reading a book about these type of pools, but if you had to recommend some resources that you would/did use to actually build this, would you mind pointing me in the right direction?

      analogtrill Thanks Analogtrill. It is really paying off now in our hot summer days. As for resources, I got inspiration from Michael Littlewoods NSP book. it has a lot of pictures and gives you ideas on what you can do as far as aesthetics, access points, plants and such, but does not cover the tactical and bog filter type of information that you need in order to actually build it. I got 80% of that information from Mick Hilleary's NSP book with Total Habitat. The remaining was just what I had researched online one building a dock, stream bed, pump house, plumbing, gravel bottom pools etc. Let me know if you have any questions. Happy to help any looking to build these. Super great addition, plus it looks great year round. Cheers.
