I feel like you could make this series even better by discussing the cars themselves more. Give some basic info on the car's performance specs and thoughts on its handling characteristics before and during the shakedown. It would also be cool to hear your thoughts on its viability as a platform. Longer videos in this series would definitely be fun. Great work guys
you can google that shit... specs and hp... he talked about it's handling a bit as it pertained to snow, and there's a million reviews for all these cars that talk about their on pavement handling. i like these videos being straight to the point and wouldn't want to watch a 30 minute car review with snow in the background. just my .02
Have an r60 countryman S All4 which is just the 4-door version of the Paceman, and the AWD is fantastic, you can never really tell that the car is FWD until slippage and I didn't even know that was the case until it was mentioned here! Fantastic handling, relatively low center of gravity for an SUV/crossover-like car and the AWD is fantastic for mountain driving and twisty roads
Personally I think the music is too loud, I'd like to hear the engine sound a little more. Maybe you could add a pedal cam for the future videos. Other than that the video is perfect, very entertaining, this channel is pure gold!
Great cinematography. I like the bloopers too. But the best was the comments about the car behavior during left foot breaking, pendulum, throttle application, etc when rallying. That is a first ever. Fantastic. Keep it coming.
sweet!!! this is now my favorite series on youtube! cant wait for the next episode. (p.s. miss the old outro with rally car launching sound, its way better than this music )
All subsequent times should be displayed around the end of the video to compare each car as the series goes on, and maybe a wrx or rs as a control time amazing video very fun to watch 10/10
Learned to drive stick on a countryman, absolutely loved how it drove. Not a huge fan of the handbrake position but it's manageable. Absolute blast to drive
Hell yeah. Use my R60 with blizzaks for a 50km drive to work, at 5am in a Canadian winter before the plows come out, and the thing stays in control like a rocket.
I hate the big Mini's with a passion, but enjoyed the video. Can't wait to see how the van does next episode. I don't know how you're getting these vehicles, but I'd love to see you try to rally a Prius.
Nice this was pretty sweet to watch. Production quality is great. I hate those silly safety features on cars now adays though, like the throttle cut off while braking thing you mentioned. A merc I owned had a switch to "turn off" traction control but it never really turned off unless you pulled the fuse for the abs, very frustrating in the snow.
Awesome episode, really enjoying the setup for this show. Would appreciate a pace lap set from a more competition level car though, just so we have something to compare to at the end.
Finally, someone who drives correctly a all wheel drive with Haldex joint! Compliments! Certainly there are many differencies from a "real" AWD, for example Subaru Impreza o Mitsu Lancer. But with the right technique, (weight transfert) you can drive in drift with a little bit angle of steering wheel. I follow you from Italy and the program "Will It Rally?" is very cool!! Now I'm waiting for a new test with other Haldex car, why not a Audi S1 2.0 TFSI? Thanks! 😄
The left foot braking is very weird. I was trying it out a bit today. Sometimes it feels very dramatic when the throttle cuts, but sometimes it lets you left foot brake pretty well. It surely helps with cornering!
Future Will it Rally? candidates: one of those 4matic Mercedes early 2000's V6 Camry - manual one of the newer Volvos with AWD the ubiquitous 1995 Buick/Oldsmobile Grandma cars preferably in a beige color Nice bump in production quality too.
Love the casual shots at the end lol. This should be a cool series. Thanks guys! Suggestion- a board to track the stage times for all the vehicles like top gear
Considering Countryman’s were actual WRC cars, I wonder if there’s ways to defeat the throttle cut under braking and enable full time AWD. Full time AWD may or may not overheat the clutch packs tho.
This is by far one of the better videos...that car is sweet...throwing that snow sideways was awesome... So is this Mini an employee's car? A WIR fan? Just wondering who's cars you put thru the course... I would love to see a video of you driving the entire course...
Would really like to see you do one of these with an older Subaru Legacy. It would be neat to see how it stacks up against the obvious abilities of the WRX.
@@060racing8 maybe on tarmac, but gravel/snow/wet it will be 4WD Also, you reprogram the ECU to get rid of the throttle cut and make the 4WD a bit more aggressive. I know of a guy who had his one done in England, the car runs on a 35/65 split with rear wheel bias. I was passenger on a local winding road and that car felt like a RWD, and that was in the dry. What I like on the WRC model of this car, it sounds like the classic 90s rally cars.
@@GoalSquad666 I actually have a 5-speed DC CD in my subaru 35 65 is good on tarmac but just seems to create too much oversteer on gravel. However I believe the Mini Cooper uses a haldex system and I think there's a reason why no one really uses it in competitive rally.
If you randomly come up on one I would love to see how a late 80s Ford Festiva handles your course. My brother had one and used to beat the hell out of it on logging roads.. That thing just wouldn't die! #vivalafestiva
I had a lot of fun in the 2019 countryman this winter in Bethlehem. Gotta have the JCW edition with twin turbos and all that jazz. So much fun although a little big. Thankfully it was only a rental while my mini got fixed. So how much is this course? Any deal for locals?
Winter driving around here is a GREAT time, for info on the different courses check out www.teamoneil.com and we do offer local deals on some things, drop a quick email to info@teamoneil.com and either Pam or Karl will get right back to you. Thanks Christian!
First class driver. Never thought the Paceman can do it. Slow motion takes are amazing. What would be your advise on terms of driving this car on snowy roads like these “not rallying though” with the traction control ON or OFF?
4:26 hi wyatt! What do you mean by throttle cut when you brake quickly or aggressively? One thing I noticed in my one is that despite turning DSC off, it kicks in when the car is engaged in a huge skid. Not the first time it occurred in a car equipped with stability control 🤔
The throttle cut in modern cars doesn't allow the driver to apply both the throttle and the brake at the same time. So if you have the gas on and you brake aggressively with your left foot, the computer pull power. It can be quite frustrating!
Loved this series! I’ll for sure have to watch each new video. Question though about Rally cars. I have a Rallycross car that has a roll cage in it, registering it and street driving it scares me (cracking your skull from the bars during an accident). What precautions do rally drivers take during transit stages? Is there a recommenced way to have a cage setup for street driving?
Sounds like fun! As long as you have sufficient rollbar padding, you should be good to go. The rulebook states there needs to be padding anywhere your head might potentially impact in a crash, and as long as you've got your belts on it should be plenty safe.
My Mazda 3 gives me about 2 seconds of braking before the throttle cuts, and that "feature" can be disabled by holding both pedals down with the key on/engine off for 30 seconds. Release the throttle, and you have ten seconds to start the engine. The two seconds is plenty for the street though. Can't wait to see the vans and other unconventional cars.
There was one of those in front wheel drive form in my rallycross class ( prepared Front wheel drive). It was quick on its 1st run. its down fall was that its radiator sits low. On its 1st lap, it bottomed out and bent the radiator mounts and radiator leaking its coolant out. it was out of the race the rest of the day... and ever came back the rest of the year. it aint no Ford Fiesta!! lol I love my Ford Fiesta rallycross car!
Do you think the all4 system will handle big power the same? I have a big turbo r56 and am toying with the idea of buying a countryman and putting my engine and turbo in it as it’s a direct swap circa 450bhp on low boost, will this overwhelm this system do you think?
In Adition to the fact that ABS almost killed me delivering pizza in Wisconsin, (handbrake turn save because luckily there was no traffic to the sides on an unstoppable downhill rolling slide) the music for this series feels perfect
Do you know what traction mode you had while recording this video? If you tap it once it's dynamic and if you hold it, DSC and TCS will be completely off. The throttle cut also should turn off in the 2nd stage
We just pulled the fuses. We also tried to pull the ABS fuse, but that killed the AWD also leaving the car FWD only so we put it back and ran AWD with ABS on.
@@Teamoneilrally Good to know. Is there anything to know about airbags? I got my tires off the ground once but hesitant to do it again cuz I don't wanna set off a bag. Anyway to temporarily disable them?
