The Sign that said "smoking prohibited outside, Smoking allowing inside" just boggles my mind 😄
Akasaka is nice, but unfortunately most of the Restaurants and bars are expensive.
But the good thing is, it is not overloaded with people. Mostly you can get a free seat in the restaurants and bars, even at the weekends.
Not most, I lived there, a 5 minutes walk from Mitsuke (where you can see all bars and restaurants in the vid) and there are a lot of standing bars, izakayas and such really affordable. you can really have a great time all night without emptying your bank account ^^ There's even a bar where you can play a game and have discount on Highballs

I love this bar The Mermaid. I've been there a lot. BUT, you can smoke inside, but not outside. That's some weird Japanese logic. Last time I was there, the smoke was very annoying.
Akasaka is way better than Shinjuku.
