Take it a step further actually. After self defense happens, it's a race to call the police first. You need to win that race or your court case will be an uphill battle every step of the way, because the moment you leave, the bad guy *will* call to try to get his story in first, and the cops *will* believe whoever they hear first initially, and it takes a miracle to change their minds.

It's people like him that stigmatizes "alphabet rights" (have to speak in code, cause you know), and again, even if you do swing that way, it's still not a free pass to be a massive douchebag.
Story 4: I want to imagine Karen and husband demanding to press charges and insisting on calling the cops. Then I hope the cops take their statements first, then watch the videos, and end up arresting them for filing a false police report
The guy who gets violent in the store is the same guy who was probably a bully in high school and used to people just handing over their lunch money rather than dealing with him beating them up
Story 3: this is how you are trained to behave if you take any type if self defense based martial arts, if you don't know tge aggressor will be calm you do not release them until authorities arrive
Story 5: I can only really speak for myself, but it confirms at least one reason of "not helping" that isn't a lack of *wanting* to help. Myself? I want to help when I see people who need help, but I'm terrified about somehow making the situation worse in my own nervous confusion since I have no idea what I'm doing.
Ah yes, little old people who still think reefer madness is a thing. Stoners aren't attacking anybody at the store. If they're at the store, it means they've got a mean case of the munchies and nothing in the pantry tickles their fancy.
If someone's stoned off their ass, they're not going to attack other customers. They're going to buy a shitload of snacks because they have the munchies.
At least some of the time it seems like Karen saw the customer do something that Karen assumes only an on-duty employee would do, and that's why Karens sometime maintain this attitude of "BuT i KnOw YoU wOrK hErE!" even when the customer tries to explain that they're not an employee. For example, I've heard stories here about where a taller customer would help a shorter customer get something off of a higher shelf at a store, and the Karen assumes the taller customer was an employee on that basis alone (apparently Karens seem to operate on the belief that a customer would never help another customer for any reason whatsoever, I guess). I also heard one story about someone who was a customer at a gas station who'd made a mess in the store area (getting a beverage and accidentally spilling it in the process, as memory serves me) and, since she'd worked at a gas station in the past (and I think it might actually have been that particular gas station) and knew where the cleaning supplies were, decided to be nice to the one employee who was on duty by cleaning up her own mess, and who got confused by a Karen for an employee.
For people dumping on the OP#1, anxiety issues have been on the rise in recent times, some it due to Covid, but I would say much of it due to the rise in the number of people like the crazy old lady in the story. Or the comment after the story about the person who had a guy follow them out and open their car door and force them to smile. Seriously, so crazy. But crazy and entitled exists in so many people these days. Just yesterday, my offspring and their friends were walking around downtown, when they were nearly hit crossing the street by a vehicle turning left. They literally had to jump back or else they would have been knocked down. Worse, after that, the passenger in the car flipped them off, as if they didn't care that they nearly mowed over a group of people, and, in fact, found themselves to be inconvenienced instead. These are the kinds of people who seem to exist more and more lately. Then, to add insult to injury, law enforcement often won't go after these people, even if you have evidence (camera footage at crosswalk, phone pic, reporting of vehicle license plate and description), unless someone gets really hurt or dies. So, yeah, for those who are more prone to being more anxious, times have been really tough. But, certainly, OP really should talk to someone about these issues. Something happened, or a number of somethings, maybe at work even, that has caused the OP to be this way.
I agree it’s easy to say stand up for yourself when your on a computer but to actually have someone screaming in your face is a whole different story. And some people are really shy so that’s a nightmare for them to be in.
Story 1: If I were in OP's shoes, I'd call the cops. Story 2: Anyone can be dangerous, even without drugs. This guy was just hungry; he wasn't gonna do anything.
Story 3: I appreciate OP being the type of person to try to de-escalate, but a lot of people just cannot be reasoned with and have anger issues with a lack of impulse control. Sometimes, it's best to evade as much as possible. And then the whole "You're all homophobic" card Kevin pulled. Wow
What I don't get is how these people think others know they're homosexual in the first place? Do gays in Murica walk around with head tattoos that say so? Unless they tell in words, no-one will know or care.
@@gorilladisco9108 Yeah, with this I agree.. These people never ever learn otherwise!!! Even if it's minimal, I'd press charges!! Karens&Kevins deserve it all ..

Otherwise he may be stuck in a cookie/snack boot loop at this time because everything looks both too good or not good enough and he doesn't want to move lest someone take his options. He needs help, a trusted friend.
Story 3 is a prime example of be careful of who you mess with. You never know what they're capable of, or willing to do. The innocent looking ones are the most dangerous.
Very true. As a male martial artist, I sometimes tell people that it's actually the female martial artists that you have to be careful with, because they're the ones who can (and will) pull off stuff that you'd never expect until it's too late for you to do anything about.
Story 1: OP needs serious psychiatric help. She shouldn't have to go through life like that! Story 5: Maybe OP could contact hospital administration and tell them what she's gone through?
Story about the big guy kicking the knee, while it is true, you don't have to stay and wait for the cops. It honestly looks better if you do because the man who attacked can then be arrested and have charges pressed on them, and then, won't that shrink his Karen wife's smug ass face?
Story 1 for anyone who gets into that situation, please please know that it is an acceptable situation to call the police or even 911. I know a lot of people, especially young people, feel pressured into believing that their situations are not dangerous enough or important enough to call for that kind of help.
Yes because even if the cops don't or can't come for some reason or the lady leaves, it is documented and if that lady does something later on then they have a pattern.

Dark fluff, you should sell "I don't work here, Lady," badges and so on. Maybe bundled with a Taser, too, for folks like @phantemghost (Opie of first story).
Story 2: "I don't even know why they hire people like you!" "They don't ma'am. They don't hire people like me. I don't work here." Story 3: The fact that OP didn't press charges makes me think this story is fiction. Last Story: "You think you rule the world!" "Yes ma'am, I do. Have a nice day."
the comment about the man opening the woman's door and telling her to smile, come up with the worst, nastiest crap you can and tell him you were just diagnosed. something like "I'm a single mother with 5 types of cancer, my mother just died, my grandpa has [lockdown], etc, etc" make him regret EVER considering even speaking to you. it'll give him pause the next time he considers telling someone that.
That'll work. I have long wondered what the reaction would be to an answer of, "I am smiling", said with the absolutely deadest pan expression on one's face. I will never know, because I have scared people with a scowl.
The hospital issues: a short note to their risk manager detailing your events would be helpful at avoiding the ‘not my problem’ mentality and getting word to the correct management. It’s a big liability issue for them, and the risk manager is compelled to fix it. Too many hospitals consider appearances of the grounds instead of function for the impaired visitors.
A majority of the time, security guards aren't actually hospital employees. They usually have strict rules about where and when they can act. It's definitely frustrating sometimes especially as a first responder when they try to impede me and my patients. But visitors should have some personal responsibility to not make themselves another patient
@@ooops.its.raquan7187 True. They are almost always contracted firms, and have their own policy and procedures, in addition to state governance. Many such staff may be poorly educated and poorly trained in their duties and, more importantly, their limitations. They are to observe and report, with intervention markedly limited. Some may willfully exceed their authority, and must be disciplined. Failure by their company to do so can lead to the contract being voided.
Trans lesbian here. You can't tell someone's orientation just by looking at them. This is coming from a woman who has tattoos in the trans and lesbian pride flag colors. One is a Thor's hammer with the trans flag on it and the other is a valknut done in the lesbian flag. I've had men hit on me at times, never mind that they have better odds of throwing a baseball with enough force to reach escape velocity and have it land in a precise spot on the heart of Pluto than they ever will of dating me. Like you, I have to deal with the usual suspects. But I also have to deal with chasers. I present very femme and have long hair, so the men who do hit on me often try to deny that I'm gay. As I've never dated men AT ALL, I'm what's known in the community as a gold star lesbian.
And someone's romantic or sexual preferences is a need-to-know-privilige anyway. If that privilige is granted to me, I presume they will notify me of it. 😉
I can relate to the last story. I was very much loved at a local restaurant by that mostly the elderly go to. There was an old lady that was losing her balance and grabed onto me. I whirled my head around wondering who was touching me as I'm autistic but I am okay with being touched by others. I immediately realized what was going on and helped her to the restroom. I even stayed near the restroom after cleaning every table and once she came out I offered her my arm and walked her back to her table. She and her daughter kept thanking me for helping her and even told my boss praises about me. I actually told them that I used to help my mom in being a caretaker for my grandmother before she passed away from cancer. I actually enjoy helping others and it was my pleasure in helping her. All the regulars loved me as I would have conversations with them, appreciated how well I cleaned the tables for them, and seeing a regular face when they come by. They actually gave me a bunch of tips on my last day of work as it was time for me to transfer to the college I needed to go to for my degree and they were really sad to see me go. But are always happy to see me when I visit and sub in when my old boss asks me to. Even my boss cried on my last day as she always told me I was the best table busser she ever had for the two years I worked there. I told her whenever I'm in town I'd be happy to sub in and to just give me a text or call and I'll be there to help.
Good idea, but FYI, in a majority of cases, security guards are NOT employees of the companies where they work. I could go and on in explanation of how this function generally works but reporting them to HR won’t matter because they’re not hospital employees. Also depending on how the outsourced security contract is written up and the guards trained, the guards might even get into trouble for interfering. OP should report the incidents to hospital administrators to make them aware of the problem so they can address it. Thanks to OP for helping those two elders.
It’s not the hospital staffs responsibility to ferry around visitors. They are there for the patients. If you’re frail, old or infirm, bring someone with you to help you. Don’t assume the hospital staff will do it for you.
Yeah I actually don't fault the security guards working in healthcare myself. I've often had patients with elderly relatives or partners who don't really have the ability to follow the patient by themselves, but want to anyways. It makes it so now I basically have 2 patients. There are carers for this kind of thing, or other transport services. The elderly shouldn't make themselves a patient
Love the festive background! Happy Holidays! Also the flabber I gasted when the guy in story 3 said it was a hate crime “because I’m gay!” Bruh, she couldn’t have known that
Story 4: As annoyed as he was, and even though he didn't want to, ALWAYS wait for cops, even in acts of self-defense. All leaving does is make you look guilty and allow the idiots to control the narrative of what happened, cameras or not. NEVER, EVER assume that the cameras caught everything OR that the crowd will side with you and that you're in the clear because you were acting in self-defense.
Why do Karen's think that if they yell loud enough they'll hetvwhay they want? Lady, it didn't work when you were a kid and it isn't going to work now. OP in Story 2 has good taste in chips. "Lady, my JOB is to eat these chips. Good day."
I would have done the same, if some random guy tried to grab me in a store to try and turn me around towards him, he would get a broken nose from me. I have been studying Muay Thai for seven years and krav maga for three years.
In the first story there, let something like that happen at Walgreens in Nevada I've lived off and on for months at a time in Nevada always moving back to California though since 2001. This time I've lived here for just under 10 years straight. Nevada is a constitutional carry state with stand your ground and castle doctrine laws. Most people open carry some even concealed carry. Myself I'm a cc. I carry Sig Sauer 9 mm everywhere I go. My point is if that had happened in Nevada Op would have had every right under our state laws to use deadly force to defend herself. Our castle doctrine reads as if anybody attempts to break into your occupied home or vehicle, and you feel like you are in fear for your life, you have 100% the right to use deadly force to end the situation. If that had happened to me Karen would be a piece of Swiss cheese on the ground next to my car, and I have to wait around for the cops to fill out the papers and deal with the formalities. But at the end of the day even though I would have a long inconvenience of waiting, I would go home and Karen would go to the morgue
Fair enough. I can't carry firearms yet but I do carry knives and I would've done exactly what you described. People are getting crazier these days and some form of protection should be mandatory
Story 1: I fully understand about the panic OP was experiencing...it can be crippling. Karen is pretty lucky though...it could have ended VERY badly for her. Story 3: OP should have pressed charges...these people will not understand that they need to keep their hands off of others unless they are held accountable. Story 4: OP did not have to wait around for the police unless he was going to press charges (he should have) because the cops can view the security tapes.
Story 4, this is something that surprises me in the fights I see, both parties try to hit the other's face, but the knee is basically the support point of any living being. You got this point right, there is no mountain left standing.
When we left the hospital once, my ex and I saw a woman in the middle of the road on her knees in pain, so I ran inside and told the er staff, they ran out to help her!! It was the er so he was obviously a patient!
The second story took place in Oregon.😂 Fun fact: I 38 of the 46 other states I've been in, I've been asked if I had any weed, as soon as people found out I was from Oregon.
Story 3: OP should've pressed charges the first time round. It came back to haunt her. He was a typical Kevin playing the homophobic card when things didn't got he way he'd hoped.

But if it's legal where you are there's virtually nothing the police or anyone else can do about it unless the person under the influence is hurting someone, himself or about to do something like drive when not capable of doing so safely. That's about it. Sporting goods owner story: OP, your mistake was in not pressing charges at Walmart. That led him to believe you wouldn't take any actions against him in the future. ALWAYS press charges. Drug store encounter story: Send your hubby to intimidate someone, Karen? Doesn't work if the person won't be intimidated and not only can but will fight back. BTW, knees are often a good target at they let you take someone down quickly.
I once had a bum get VERY pushy with me. "I'm gonna tell you why you should give me some money!" was one of the things he said, in a very aggressive tone of voice. And he was HUGE, not tall but he was a massive block of muscles, built like a tank. Reason I mention it is that he kept at it after I got in my pickup, kind of like the poor girl in the first story. But I'm nothing like her. I know my vehicle is a potential weapon, so as I felt threatened, I tore straight out of there not caring if he was in the way or not. He wasn't, as it happened, but when I say I didn't care, I do mean I _wouldn't have stopped._ I was getting _out_ of that situation no matter what happened to the other guy. So: Don't mess with people in their cars. And yes, the guy in the second story sounded like he was a serious threat to cookies. Well, at least the ones on that shelf.
Oh no, an old lady is harassing me. Its an old lady not a gang member who's an MMA fighter. What is she going to do break the tempered glass windows? Highly inlikely. Good luck in life if that made you cry
_Who follows someone to the car and does that_ In my case, that would be someone asking to get the beating that their parents never gave them. Seriously, I HATE when people constantly keep trying to get in my personal space, specially when they're being annoying or aggressive towards me, as I can lit a fuse really fast if they keep bothering me.
Story 3: OP learned the hard way that she should have pressed charges from the initial encounter. In fact she knew this at the time, when after she declined to press charges he immediately accused her of hate speech, so she was extremely foolish not to change her mind at that point and insist they throw the book at him. She would’ve avoided all the problems she faced by letting him off. You’d think people who frequent this sub would know better by now.

Story 3: Being entitled is one thing, but to use an identity label to try and get someone in trouble when HE is clearly the aggressor is something I cannot forgive.
Story 2 I've never seen anyone get violent or nasty while on weed, unless they are being attacked, or bullied by a karen.
Last I looked, THC is a downer not an upper.
The worst thing he was gonna do was buy up all the Oreos in the store.
@@TALON_SILVER Yeah. Bro just wants his munchies. He means no one any harm.
The woman has no idea about legal jurisdictiom.
Story 5:
I can only really speak for myself, but it confirms at least one reason of "not helping" that isn't a lack of *wanting* to help.
Idk they might be attacking that whole cookie isle
If someone's stoned off their ass, they're not going to attack other customers. They're going to buy a shitload of snacks because they have the munchies.
Do Karens just pick out people from the crowd and decide they work at said store?😂
Basically, yes!
It sounds like that, some people must have their "drama". 🙄
Who's to say the woman in story #2 wasn't on something, herself?
@@jacklow9611Judging from how she reacted to what OP said, she obviously was a visitor in his Country and not a Native.
@@JadenYukifan28 No, just fundamental and old and not willing to accept that weed is only illegal to prop up the hemp industry and for profit prisons.
Always, always, always press charge at the first opportunity.
@@gorilladisco9108 Yeah, with this I agree.. These people never ever learn otherwise!!! Even if it's minimal, I'd press charges!! Karens&Kevins deserve it all ..

Story 1: I'm willing to bet that Karen is a complete psycho who is on a power trip
I doubt that you'd lose anything on that bet.
Yes because even if the cops don't or can't come for some reason or the lady leaves, it is documented and if that lady does something later on then they have a pattern.

the comment about the man opening the woman's door and telling her to smile, come up with the worst, nastiest crap you can and tell him you were just diagnosed. something like "I'm a single mother with 5 types of cancer, my mother just died, my grandpa has [lockdown], etc, etc" make him regret EVER considering even speaking to you. it'll give him pause the next time he considers telling someone that.
That'll work. I have long wondered what the reaction would be to an answer of, "I am smiling", said with the absolutely deadest pan expression on one's face.
I will never know, because I have scared people with a scowl.
I'd just give the creep the most unsettling smile, ever, teeth and all (probably with some food still stuck in my teeth), and say, "You asked."
As a woman with short hair, my fellow straights do mistake me for a lesbian sometimes. Gay people don't.

Story #5: You should have reported those security guards to HR! They could have called a orderly or a nurse to help!

18:58 : THIS IS THE TYPE OF EMPATHY WE NEED MORE OF
I once had a bum get VERY pushy with me.
