I hope they continue racing with these boats (or a smaller version of the same style). I get the feeling that they can deliver great racing, once the sailors get the hang of it and the officials know which courses and wind speeds work best.
Yes--maybe the best America's Cup race I've ever seen; while most are boring and one-sided, this was a very competitive and intriguing battle that the Italians seemed to have blown by not tacking in front of New Zealand on that last (I think) upwind leg. They chose not to tack, as they'd done on the previous upwind legs, pushing NZ out to the boundary, and that cost them the lead and the match. The NZ boat is slightly faster, and that means that the Italians have to sail somewhat defensively and flawlessly--and they haven't been able to be flawless in the last three races after starting the final very well. I have no idea why the TV host didn't ask the Italian skipper about that crucial mistake--a true cop out by the guy. The post-match interviews are absolutely anodyne and worthless.
The addition of the disturbed air "fog" is a nice touch! I was glued to the screen. After all these weeks of watching, waiting, watching . . . I'm still wrapping my head around 40-50 knot sailing. Exciting racing (and this coming from a dirt bike racer :-) )
Not sure who does the edits for these "highlights" sequences but just wanted to say a HUGE thank you - the series is great, the racing amazing and the boat handling Olympian, but none of that excitement would carry through without your amazing tight edits and selections. It's sad to see commentators clearly having different tones when talking about New Zealand and Italy. It's like they don't even try to be impartial! On another highlight, one of the commentators even dare to say that New Zealand are the underdogs... They are the defending champions! The cup coverage is great, I am truly enjoying this. But it really takes me out of focus whenever the clear favoritism is noticed from the race commenters.
first race start was delayed from lack of wind then after race the wind was changing angle, there was not quite enough time to set up course before cut off time 6pm
Man. When will the LRPP catch a wind shift that propels them to a win? It’s as if NZ knows where and when that will happen and have won the last 3 races. Are there weather sensors throughout the area where everyone has access to it?
Most of NZ guys sailed in this area for decades, even though they are still in their 20's, they certainly are at an advantage here. I suppose they have cameras on top of the mast to try to spot gusts and calmer areas on the water at a distance ?
on the bottom of Leg 5 Jimmy says , "we need to protect the right" at the Lee bow move, Bruni says to go left. You could hear a sigh from Jimmy. Race lost.
Yep: Bruni lost his nerve, they didn't tack in front of NZ--and that cost them the race. It was a pretty dumb mistake given that tacking in front of NZ upwind had been so effective until that point. The announcer didn't even ask Bruni about the mistake, which was lame.
@@mark-ish ...we are racing the AC not a minor race. I simply believe the course C is the worst one and it was supposed to be replaced with a better one (course A for example) because of it's tight and only the locals can guess the time of the wind shifts...but of course this is the AC and the defender makes the rules
Fabio. Get over yourself. Both boats have equal chances. It's the mistakes and bad decisions that create a loss. TNZ did not have to cross boundaries to return to the race. It was Team Effort and Skill. Give some credit of a job WELL DONE 👍
It's sudden death; LR needs to win 4 straight. Not going to happen. That attempt by Jimmy to consolidate on the final upwind turned out to be fatal, compounded by insisting on protecting the left side when he had ceded control of the race to Peter. Never let Burling sail his own race. And as Nathan said, "Course C. Why aren't we out here every day?"
They got a call for a good pressure on the left, that's why they choice to go there, but that was a 5 sec. then the wind turn on the right. It's a choice, unfortunally for the italians a wrong choice, but nothing to question about it.
@@Madvillar Who said there was good pressure on the left? Spithill wanted to tack--and they should have tacked; the right side was the puffy side throughout the race. Bruni opted not to repeat what had worked for them up to that (crucial) point--and blew it.

No, will I buy the merch? For the first time in over 25 years No, sorry but the only way to have racing at this speed interesting is to have a one design concept.. most races were won by hundreds of meters, until race 6 not a single lead change etc if your going to remove so much from the sport like sail changes, spinikers, close passes, TEAMS TOO (for the young ones there used to be alot of teams from china, Australia, spain, Japan, Switzerland, France, south Africa, canada and sweeden) exciting pre-starts etc then it has to be super close racing otherwise honestly it was dull...

@@markfisher7962 no worries. The wind was also very light at the bottom of the course. Top of the course was just above minimum at 7 knots. They likely would have fallen off foil even if they started. Good call by the umpire
This mistake from LunaRossa is not understandable at this level of the competition, when it comes more than obvious that the Italian shall not let Tnz alone, they go to the left side in the last leg in shifty conditions while Tnz is going to the right ! How such decision can be made in total contradiction with a minimal risk analysis . Honestly Spithill is really impressive during the pre-start and first legs but it is a pity to don’t h ave a good tactician onboard Lunarossa.
They went back on the side where they built a 80mt lead. Actually they didn't loose much staying on the left till the moment ETNZ took the shift. Have a look at Peter Burling face at 20:43. It looks like he was surprised by the shift too.
There's boundaries they can't cross without getting penalized, as indicated by the computer generated white lines on the water. Or are you asking for something more specific?
@@wallyman292 I understand the boundary bit, but they seem to be going fast towards the next gate and then they turn when it seem to be quicker to go straight towards the gate.
@@bazcurtis178 The boat chasing will sometimes tack/jibe in order to round the opposite buoy than the lead boat so as to have clean air on the next leg. As an alternative, they'll round the same mark, but immediately throw in a tack or jibe after the rounding, but this is more risky.

What happens to these boats after the races?
They give it to me to go fishing.
They mount them outside there cup base with the other winning boats
Actually an exciting race for a change! Anyone know why they abandoned the 2nd race? Was it just to guarantee another day of racing?
first race start was delayed from lack of wind then after race the wind was changing angle, there was not quite enough time to set up course before cut off time 6pm

La luna rossa sta per tramontare. Peccato per il 4-4 mancato. Ormai è impensabile recuperarla.
yes like in san Fransisco ;)
Race lost.
@D R Bruni owned up to it in the presser. That's why I like him.
It's a struggle to hear them over the announcers stepping on their comms in the boat. You have good ears! 🙂
@@dannac_8888 Just watch the Aft camera footage from LR. Clear as a bell It's a seperate channel on YT. and on America cup website
Yep: Bruni lost his nerve, they didn't tack in front of NZ--and that cost them the race. It was a pretty dumb mistake given that tacking in front of NZ upwind had been so effective until that point. The announcer didn't even ask Bruni about the mistake, which was lame.
bruni says""we dont have it""prior to going to the left, what does he mean by that?
no doubt that the change of the race courses for shifty wind advantaged ETNZ
you're talking nonsense no doubt.
@@fabioradicini1093 Listen the after race conference press. Both Bruni and Spithill where really happy to race on course C.
How? They both race on the same course. Douche.
Careful there Brian. Have you forgotten what happened in 2013?
18:20 crucial exchange on Luna Rossa. Jimmy says if they have the lead they protect the right. Francesco doesn’t think they have it.

Finally a decent race! As a 7x AC watcher and supporter though this has by far been the most boring racing I've ever seen... the cost of that is even as a kiwi am I excited about the next AC? No, will I buy the merch? For the first time in over 25 years No, sorry but the only way to have racing at this speed interesting is to have a one design concept.. most races were won by hundreds of meters, until race 6 not a single lead change etc if your going to remove so much from the sport like sail changes, spinikers, close passes, TEAMS TOO (for the young ones there used to be alot of teams from china, Australia, spain, Japan, Switzerland, France, south Africa, canada and sweeden) exciting pre-starts etc then it has to be super close racing otherwise honestly it was dull...
now that was a race
Exciting race for four legs and four legs only...after that, the boat over the start line first was gonna' win anyway.
Yes, that's how it works...first one over the line wins 🙄
I've been investing in the stock market for 3years now and it keeps getting difficult to make profit in the stock market as the year goes by, I'll love to go into cryptocurrency Investments can anyone be of assistance to me ?
The stock market is quite profitable but to some extent the cryptocurrency market generates quite a lot more profit than the stock market especially on bitcoins
I choose to go into cryptocurrency Investments because of the potentials I saw in the bitcoin market few years ago and currently bitcoin holds a market price value of $56,000 and that's quite a lot

Why do the boats tack when they are going very fast on one side of the course?
