  • In this video, I will show how to convert Chinese power Plugs to your own country's European/UK/US/Indian etc. Style Sockets yourself and avoid Dangerous Dodgy Adapters. Nowadays we import a lot of smart devices from Xiaomi in China. They usually come with Chinese style 3 pin power plugs. The sellers may provide you with some adapter to convert, but avoid such adapters at all costs. You should buy a locally made and certified power plug and connect it by removing the original Chinese one. I give the detailed wiring instructions in this video.

    If you cut the cable part way down the lead you can make 2 adapters to work A-B and B-A. I did that for the UK and Europe.

    I use the same power strip in australia since its the same socket used there and also fits those two pin euro adapters (e.g usb wall adapters) and Us 2 flat pins. Although the Chinese 3 pin plug is same as the one in Australia, it did not fit well into the socket. So i did the same thing you did but with an Au/Nz plug i got from bunnings. And it fits well now

    Consider using wire ferrules for extra safety. Bare stranded wires may looks like they make good connection at first, but over time they spread around, lose pressure and the connection quality degrades, which can catch fire on too much load. Ferrules were invented to prevent this.

      It used to be advised to "tin" stranded wire, although, some plug manufacturers specifically prohibit this, depending on the plug design.

      Frequency change 50/60Hz doesn't matter on Laptop/mobile charges (with smps chargers) or electric heaters etc., Except AC motors I guess. But you should be careful of the voltage in case of a heater (110/220V). Laptops will work. Thanks.

    • @TessaChan1
      @TessaChan1 Год назад +1

      Hello, your solution will be identical to his video. If the plug is a screw type you can just unscrew and buy the relevant plug. If it's an injection moulded plug then you'll need to cut it off. Once you have access to the wires you can choose between getting a wireable 2 pin Europlug if the device has two wires or if 3 pins then you can get the local one relevant for the country - you can either get a Hybrid schuko one that will work for most places, or if you're going to France, Belgium or Poland for example, then you'll need one that has the hole for the earth connection as these countries have a earth pin sticking out of the socket. If you're going to most other places like Germany, Spain, South Korea, Indonesia then you need a a Schuko plug. You can sometimes find these on eBay UK if you need them before you leave the UK. If you can share with me which country you'll be going to I can provide more specific information. Note Switzerland use their own sockets and plugs and Italy has their own unique situation sometimes, but yes, let us know and we can help you further.

    do the power adapters convert the voltage at all? If not, can you just chop the Chinese plug off the appliance cable and wire a UK plug to it?

    • @FrodoOne1
      @FrodoOne1 2 года назад

      You should know that "Power" is the rate at which "work is done" or at which energy is expended or created. Hence, there is no such thing as a "Power Adapter", except (possibly) a device which changes one form of energy into another !
      Plug connection "converters" are NOT "power adaptors" and can change only the "connections" and the way in which that is done - for good or ill.
      There is no way any such simple "re-connection" device can change the Voltage concerned.
      "can you just chop the Chinese plug off the appliance cable and wire a UK plug to it?"
      YES.
      However, make sure that you connect the UK BS-1363 plug correctly and ensure that the correct fuse is installed in the plug - which may be less than 13 A.
