Something about listening to so many buddy holly edits (yeah) and respecting the Iconic Nature of the riff but having it so normalized as "yeah that's what that is" and then seeing this and like- just the little mental calculations that go into Getting It Right is just. Such a neat experience

In the 1980s we had to learn every song by ear. Learning a solo could take an entire weekend. The internet and the massive amounts to tabs has grown guitar playing by leaps and bounds.
To be fair when I started playing guitar in the mid 90’s there wasn’t any internet in my house. I had to play along to my cassettes. stop rewind, try again, and on and on lol

That's how I felt when I intuited the opening riff for Like a Stone, watched a tutorial and found out that I was still essentially playing the right notes
I can’t even read music but I have GarageBand and incredible willpower so my favorite pastime these days is to figure out synth riffs on the keyboard, so far I’ve taught myself 3 and a half (I can’t figure out the last 2 notes of the fourth one 😭😭)
These are the videos I like seeing regarding people playing instruments. I don't wanna see someone pretend they get everything right first try I wanna see the moment they finally do and the joy of music hits them like the first time they heard their favorite song.
