I hope I will never forget about THE SOUND BARRIE R Dont know where else to say it. You are one of the coolest persons I have ever seen. Uber variety and elegance with sheer brutality when needed. Excellent man thanks so much!
The maneuver the host describes at 5:17 is a simple vertical loop - ie the aircraft ends up heading the same direction it started out in; an Immelman turn is where the aircraft initiates a vertical loop but when he/she is upside down at the top of the loop they simply do an aileron roll to wings level and continue 180 degrees opposite direction as to when they started the maneuver.
The problem with this analysis is that the Eindekker did not have ailerons, and was incapable of a roll-off-the-top. In fact, an Immelman turn was similar to a chandelle or wing-over; at no time was the aircraft stalled in an Immelman
In that context why propeller blades are in same plane???? Even they should be either forward facing or backward facing as thee could easily break the sound barrier much greater than the of speed of plane itself.
our next challenge is the light barrier i know they say it not possible but if you said to someone 300 years ago we could fly you'd been burnt at the stake
I would have preferred more emphasis on close air support. The point of dog fighting is to establish air supremacy. The point of air supremacy is so you can back up the ground troops.
Also, NOT all ww2 planes had straight wings, not only did late war planes like the ME262 and 163 have swept wings, but for some reason, the early and slow DC3 had slightly swept wings too, and I think the Mig 3. I have no idea why. The faster A-20 Havoc/Boston seems to have slightly reverse swept wings, at least on the trailing edge.
The Spitfire could NOT out climb a 109 - not even close. by over 1500 fpm - ANY schoolboy can tell you that - out turn maybe - marginally faster but the 109 was boom and zoom heads above them all.
I would even watch 20th century telegraph poles documentary as long as it's presented by Chris Barrie. What a guy!
Surprised to see so many qualified fighter pilots contributing here.

Love the way he uses Japanese spark plugs to describe a spitfire engine!
chris looks like ace rimmer sitting in that cockpit
mm do you know he IS Ace Rimmer, Red Dwarf?
The spitfire is the single most British thing ever, besides the Queen. It even came with a tea maker and a horn that played God save the Queen.
35 seconds in. Agreed. That's why I'm here.
Wasn't it Richard Pearce who flew first???
Smeg Head makes a surprisingly great presenter yea.
dont forget the hurricane and the (ee) lightning and mig 21 were awesome in a turn fight and stupidly fast both around in the early 60s

Germans had jet aces a bit before Korea

If air combat is a "duel in the sky" then your doing it wrong. It's sneaking up on the other guy and shooting him before he knows you're there.
Any one know the piece of guitar rock that is used at times in this prog. Ive heard it in other Chris Barrie progs Massive speed etc.
It's part of the Beta Brothers soundtrack ;).
I think they meant jet vs jet ace.

The usual bollocks about Fokker as "inventor" of the interruptor gear.

Fokker didn't invent the interuptor gear. 😒
