General comment: Thank you for 'playing' the way Cyan intended (I think) and doing it as if for the first time. I don't think I'm alone in not having a computer fast enough to play Firmament. Thanks
Did someone break out all the seeds from the Seed Vaults, just to throw them everywhere to cover everything with plants? 5:00 ...Physical exertion seems to be Cyan's other mortal enemy. 6:15 ...Or maybe sunrises? Don't assume, Sven. 8:20 ....OMG! IT'S THE GAUNTLET AGAIN! FAST FORWARDING TO: 21:15 You're welcome future viewers!
I finally get to see more of this game. I bounced off it pretty hard after I kept getting the rotary crane stuck in the ice level. I agree with some others that the puzzles all feel very samey, just slight variations on moving platforms around. I would have never finished it myself so I'm happy you've finally started playing it on here. I can't get over the feeling that you don't seem that into it yourself though. Thanks for playing anyhow.
Appreciate watching this because couldn’t be bothered playing it. Always bemises me how the worlds are trashed like some sort of earthquakes, yet the horse statues fall over and the teaspoons are lying out neatly undisturbed.
At this point in the story (and I have not read any spoilers, so no idea if I'm right or not), I start to suspect that we (player) are the mentioned Turner. Because: that's the only other character mentioned, apart from vague Keepers, we know that our mentor was really close with the Turner ("obsessed with him") and it's possible they were the last left. And then, the whole memory erasure thing with the threshold, maybe our mentor teaching us (Turner) a lesson. This is just speculation though, great to see your work on this series!
Last episode, the narrator slightly pauses at the end of a sentence, right before saying the word "Turner". Almost as if she was going to say a different word, but caught herself. Hmm
my theory is that Turner somehow caused the deaths of the other Keepers, the Mentor killed Turner - the burn marks in the room that had signs of struggle could be evidence of weapons fire - put their body into the Threshold which healed it but erased Turner's mind and memories, creating the player
Getting past the "vaults" was a frustration. Reminded me a little of a calendar puzzle. Quit the game for a while and started St. Andrews over from a "save". Starting it over after giving it a rest got through it. As a bonus on that part I got all the vaults open. The conservatory was a significant frustration and had to take a break from it midway. I did finally build a path from one platform to the other -- after moving planters around for a couple hours.
5:05 It's like the opening scene of A Bug's Life when the ants panic because a fallen leaf that they surely cannot just walk around intercepts their path.
The "Mentor " speaks as one who is enjoying some righteous(if hollow) justice, and if we are the now amnesia -ridden Turner, the tone seems correct. I try not to jump to conclusions, and I do want to enjoy watching Sven play this out. The puzzles are smacking of Uru and Myst yes, but we will get a " restore power, operate large factory like machines or carry fireflies around" scenarios too? Guess we will find out. I was hoping that the greenhouses would have more plant/bio puzzles. It seems more likely our Mentor here went mental and decided to toss seeds for the distraction. I do so wish the giant chess horse fountain was full of water! Looking forward to more installments 😊
Seeing another commenter who hadn't played this game yet (similarly, I haven't), they posited that our character could be "Turner" that is mentioned. I have no doubt there was supposed to be 'others' that existed, what with all the names on the wall early on and such, but I would submit to all, the fantasy of Mentor and Turner as the only two remaining Keepers who both wake the other up when they are ready to "sleep" (which keeps sounding ominous in the dialogue). With just those two, each time they get woken up, they make a single move on the chess board. Repeat ad-nauseum. XD
i agree. creating entire puzzles around the insurmountable waist hight fence is simply poor design. it would be nice to have an actual reason to need to do these puzzles instead of "the player doen't want to jump an inch"
This game seems like such a downgrade from Obduction, to a degree that’s baffling really. Obduction had an interesting cast of characters, a variety of puzzle types, incredible environmental storytelling, an intricate plot…Firmament has platform moving and a French girl.
It does seem..empty..so far. I'm hoping there's more intricately detailed scenes coming. Let's hope for a spectacular payoff at least. I'd like to see more personal info emerge. Ah well, let's enjoy the ride right? I'm recovering from a long illness, so it is a good distraction 😊
I'd agree in that I enjoyed Obduction a lot more. Firmament is still good... they just tried something really different with this one and it's hit or miss for some. The emptiness is part of the story, and the payoff in the end is really good. But yeah, Obduction was simply amazing
I have to agree... the puzzles/realms are also a lot more linear than what we are used to from cyan. When I played firmament originally the girl voice over was bugged and I missed most of the voices, definitely reduced the story telling but I was still able to pretty easily go through the puzzles without getting fully stuck. Nowhere near the experience I got when playing riven for example
The conservatory is quite clealy The Swan which lends my theory of the realms being TIMEjumps instead of distance jumps. (I've played to completion, so I know where this goes)
As much as it adds to the atmosphere and whatever, I do wish there was an option to turn him off. The only thing he seems to actually test is everyone's patience 😄
Once every five minutes is definitely too much. I can slightly forgive it if we _ever_ find a way to turn it off... but it has been long enough that it's only slight forgiveness at this point.
@@Mythraen i went looking to see if there was a mod to remove it and didn't anything but i did see that other's were looking for the same fix. what i did find was that a bunch of things in the game were in part ai generated like voice acting and jornals. "ai assisted" to be presice according to the credits
@@aarontrupiano9328 What I found on that was an article where Cyan clarified that all they did was use AI to help the writers come up with ideas. Although... I was just commenting on the game needing to have an in-game off-switch for the speakers.
Illusory truth effect. Wikipedia has a good explanation of it that I won't barrage others with here, but the gist is exactly what you dislike. Maybe if the volume of the broadcast wasn't as prominent (which Sven could alter the audio to compensate for). If our Mentor had already been brainwashed to believe the broadcasts or simply learned to tune them out, that would be reason enough that the recordings weren't stopped or the broadcast speakers weren't dismantled when it was just one person left.
@@coloneldookie7222 Um... I think we're talking about game design, not in-universe explanations. Also, without looking into it further, I can't be sure, but that effect, to my mind, seems like it wouldn't work with a single source saying it repeatedly. It makes more sense with a rumor, where multiple people pass around an unsourced claim, and they believe it because they keep hearing it.

Those insurmountable knee high fences gets one every time.
toe high? definitely. knee high? maybe. chest high? you ain't getting over that bad boy.

The greenhouse beds aren't half as bad as the Gauntlet. And the plants are probably just overgrowth or spread by birds.

If pieces of those platforms had fallen off, I'd be extremely reluctant to walk on them.

Her comment about the animals gets me wondering how long was it between Turner doing stuff and us in the present. A couple of decades or last Sunday?

If we are Turner, then we should have control of TNT and TBS

Turners name was also absent from the wall of the Threshold in the Swan.

Pretty place. The misoriented chessboard at 5:29 hurts my eyes, though.
You made those platforms seem so much easier than it was for me during my first playthrough 😂
5:05 It's like the opening scene of A Bug's Life when the ants panic because a fallen leaf that they surely cannot just walk around intercepts their path.
23:55 is possible to go around and round etc, just raise the botanic bed at lift 01 in your puzzle. Love this puzzle so much.
I am so glad you exist. And that this video dropped as soon as I was caught up to the end of episode 6 :)
Your mentor is actually the ghost of Yeesha. You missed the scene where she plays the flute!

We comment on videos (sorry if someone has made this joke in previous videos)

I need that planter device for my plants at home.
I swear I was stuck on that puzzle for over an hour
Wondered why they have an airlock here, while it is just open at the vault level.
23:55 You can go outside. The door will stay open.
Mentioning Saavedro only serves to accentuate how much better the Myst antagonists were. This lady is so dull and tedious.
The gaps that you can cross in this game are inconsistent. Cyan needs to implement jumping. They got the running part down.

I have a bad back so it makes sense to me
24:00 It did clear the socket.
Edit: Or it did. It doesn't now... Not sure if I miss-remembered or that an update changed it.
30:18 On the right on top of the box. You walked past a linking book! Also, at 5:50 the chessboard is setup incorrectly.

I suspect a lot of it is a consequence of designing a game for VR first.
I feel like they were hoping the environments would do the heavy lifting; but I feel like the environmental storytelling is really weak in this game
"Adventure game characters are the least athletic you can find"
unless they're action adventure game characters
Yeah try telling that to Aloy.

The PA guy is really getting annoying
As much as it adds to the atmosphere and whatever, I do wish there was an option to turn him off. The only thing he seems to actually test is everyone's patience 😄
I'm sure it will be/is the first mod for this :D
am i the only one who thinks that the recorded communist brainwashing voice is extremly annoying and at least partially ruins the ambiance?
