Back in a day I always had hard rock or metal playing in the back ground to keep me motivated to tear thru the iron. This makes me want to go down to my gym and dust off the plates and crank a few sets out! Simply amazing Sophie. Such a fan! Keep shredding it and living the dream Sophie! You obviously put in the work and deserves it. Nobody gets this good without putting in the work. You're one of the best I have ever heard

Michael’s vocals are a nice throwback to the latter part of the big hair metal days. Like he didn’t try too hard, so hopefully he can keep singing for many decades. Sophie’s guitar solo are melodically cool. Love the shredding on top of the bar. What a great concert that would be!

The guy is proper old school. Where the other members of Steel Panther all have history in other styles of music (remember Satchel was in Fight with Rob Halford), Ralph/Michael has pretty much always been hair metal. His early days in the 90s he was in Van Halen tribute band The Atomic Punks which is why he has so much of Roths style, moves and vocal technique, and was even a member of LA Guns for a very brief moment.
I've been listening to him and Panther since the early 2000s when they were still called Metal Shop, and considering his age, it's a crime he did not have any success in the 80s.
If you ever get a chance to check out some of his earlier stuff like the band Long Gone and the stuff he did with Mitch Perry in 7% Solution its worth a listen. Certainly not his best work, but really gives you an idea why his hair metal parody is spot on because he lived it.
My 80s pants just went crazy. Sophie please keep bringing that modern metal sound infused with 80s epic glory. This song is beyond a banger, and Michael just puts it over the top. Steel Panther rocks!
Wicked Guitar and vocals. Starr is by far top 5 vocalist in the heavy metal genre of all time.

I gave up learning guitar at 14yrs old after 2 years of private lessons, BUT at 54yrs old i was just skimming through YT, having a beer and came across a vid of Sophie shredding...watched more vids that night of her excellent guitar skills..and she got me back into wanting to play/shred..now at 57yrs still practicing and while frustrating at times, having fun with it 😁
I am not a brand snob and have 10 electric's now from Fender, Gretsch, HB, Jet, Donner and Eastcoast love them all tbh..just awaiting my 11th a custom shop IYV tele to my own colour and specs.

Im a 54 yo hair metal veteran of the 80s. Raised on poison,winger,ratt,crue,warrant etc and i love this track. This music has to come back. We need music where you come out of it feeling better than when you went in, and this is definitely of that genre. You can sweep pick and drop d til you're blue in the face but you just cant beat a good old sleazy blues riff and a halen style solo. Brilliant!
Excellent post. I'm 53 and took my 18 year old to see a Van Halen Cover band and he was blown away by how much FUN the music was. I loved the 90s grunge too, but to be honest it was not nearly as Fun as 80's Hair Metal.
I'm a 50yo all round European/American metal veteran, and until after the 2000's never heard or read of the definition "hair metal" to define any hard rock, glam metal, shock rock, or whatever style that used a porcupine hairdo. It was not the generations that invented those styles that used such a dumbass term, "Metallians" labeled themselves with way more logic than that, hinting to the music style, or even hinting to the lyrics like the term "black metal" does... in the metal world everyone has a hair, how's "hair metal" even a definition? Easier to believe it's easier for lazier generations to englobe all the different styles that wear porcupine hairdo into one wise ass term. Same thing with kids now labeling "power metal" to everything that came out of Helloween, initially labeled mainly as speed metal, having the band labeled themselves later on as "happy metal".. Newsflash, it's still speed metal, most you can do is to ad the terms "symphonic", theatrical" or "epic"... But still no mention of these post-new metal terms in any metal magazine, band interview, or nothing of the era in which those styles were created.
@@artzreal I love the term "Hair Metal" as it absolutely defines the OUTRAGEOUS and FUN music from the bands like Ratt, Quiet Riot, Motley Crue, Skid Row, Poison, Warrant and many others that dominated MTV in the late 80s. However bands like Iron Maiden, Dio, Judas Priest, Metallica, Guns & Roses, Rush, Journey, Foreigner, Loverboy were not "hair metal" but they shared many of the same fans. I'm not sure If I would call Kiss, Def Leppard or Van Halen Hair Metal, but maybe? This stuff is not supposed to be taken that seriously.
Hair Metal is basically watered down Van Halen.

Great song. This is far more interesting than the usual cover versions (although I absolutely acknowledge that Ms Lloyd is exceptionally skilled at what she does). Starr's vocal is dynamite but it's just a lovely melody overall. Give us more of this stuff please, Sophie 🔥🔥
