Trapping Tourists Not Fish! Tsukiji Fish Market In Tokyo

  • Tsukiji Fish Market is high on most tourists itineraries when visiting Tokyo, Japan. Before 2018, it was the largest seafood market in the world! In more recent times, it is more of a tourist attraction hotspot than an authentic fish market so we discuss whether we think it is still worth visiting or one to miss, along with the cost of the street food.
We got ourselves a matcha latte before tasting some grilled tuna skewers with wasabi, despite it being so early in the morning! We paid 500 yen for one skewer which seemed pretty expensive compared to other places in Japan where we have tried fresh tuna. We then tried Japanese omelette skewers which were really sweet but not our favourite, it has a really distinct taste!
We had a look at some of the fresh (and alive!) seafood they had for sale but it was definitely more aimed at tourist consumption and the prices reflected this so we decided to move onto somewhere a bit more backpacker budget friendly.

hmmm,... Tsukiji market moved to Toyosu. Though, nearby here is Tsukiji Hongan temple which is extremely beautiful.
