      @TheOrchidSaGa  4 месяца назад

      LOL… well I need to grow Masevallia’s better, they do not well enough I think for me. I just change the setup for them a bit. More wholes in the pots, a bit more air, I hope that will do the trick. I grow moss very easily on top off the pots and that starts to act almost as a lid, there is almost no air coming in or out anymore with such a tick top layer of moss… We shall see if the wholes work! :D

    Hello EJ, I'm always in AWE of your Miltoniopsis. They are stunning 😍 and I love them but can't grow them in my climate it's too hot here in the spring and summer. All of your blooms are just lovely, and I thank you for sharing with us.

    The purpurata doesn't look like werkhauseri, but there can be variation if it was grown from seed versus a clone. It definitely looks more like schusteriana but I would leave it as labeled.

    • @TheOrchidSaGa
      @TheOrchidSaGa  4 месяца назад

      I did think that as well, maybe a seedling. But Paula is very sure it is not a werkhauseri, So she might be right. She hase one to compare. I will see if I can find another one someday. Hopefully the right werkhauseri! Thank you for helping.

    Great tour around all your blooms! Always lovely!
    That purpurata isnt a werkhauseri. Your right that they are a deep blue/purple. The shape is a bit off too. Its definitely a purpurata of some kind though. I have purpurata werkhauseri and its phenomenal! The lip on them are unmistakable. 😊

    Great blooming update, enjoyed it a lot! Gorgeous blooms on your miltoniopsis, miltonia, dendrobiums,.... I really like your d.crysothexum with yellow flowers and also d.harwianum, used to have one, can be tricky to grow. Does it like semihydro setup?

    • @TheOrchidSaGa
      @TheOrchidSaGa  4 месяца назад +1

      Thank you! Mine Harveyanum does like it now. Since I started checking the pH level in de pot. I keep it somewhere between 6.5 - 7.5. That seems to do it for mine. So far, I didn’t lose the roots anymore.

    I just have to accept the fact that I have a hot grow room (rarely below 18 degrees at night) so I can forget about Miltoniopsis and any other cool growers 😔

    • @TheOrchidSaGa
      @TheOrchidSaGa  4 месяца назад +1

      I do have it at 18C at night and during the day it will not go above 28 in summer. Do you’re temps go higher in summer? Otherwise, you should be able to grow a Miltoniopsis. I must say that they started to grow well for me ever since I did put them in pumice and semi hydro. Maybe try a few in pumice and always keep them moist/damp. They really hate drying up and I do not give them any direct sunlight. Not even in de morning or evening.

    • @anndriggers6660
      @anndriggers6660 4 месяца назад +1

      Don't be so sure! It depends on your growing conditions. If you grow indoors, you can keep the temperature at a comfortable
      setting. I live in Austin Tx and it gets roaring hot 100°+ outside in the summertime, but I grow inside, so I'm able to keep the temperature comfortable for miltoniopsis (80° and below) I just have to keep up the humidity and keep them constantly moist. Not soaking wet, just moist. They also enjoy constant air movement. So some kind of oscillating fan, perhaps. I hope this helps! They are such a joy to grow...

    • @YnseSchaap
      @YnseSchaap 4 месяца назад

      @@TheOrchidSaGa In this room it goes well above 30 in summer (no way of cooling even with a fan) The only times I had flowers on Miltoniopsis was when I just got in this house and they were in the back room where it never gets bright. I think the only way is to try semi-hydro 😁

    • @YnseSchaap
      @YnseSchaap 4 месяца назад

      @@anndriggers6660 If it can be done in Austin I can do it here 😁Humidity and temps are unregulated meaning I don't use electrics in my room but they always stay at the same level. I made some changes in the work room and that will be the new low light/moisty room

    EJ, the africana is stunning! the paphs are all so beautiful. my pinochio is resting, how long do you think yours rested between bloom cycles?

    • @TheOrchidSaGa
      @TheOrchidSaGa  4 месяца назад

      I didn’t really take a rest. It started its new growth, and as soon as that one started to make a spike the older one did stop blooming. So, I maybe had no blooms for about 3 - 4 weeks. The first one did bloom for over 1,5 years on that same spike! But if yours is resting and it did well before. I would give it some time. It should be fine.

    • @TheOrchidSaGa

      Almost all of them, I do have my vanda’s in pots with no media. But the rest is in pumice and some in Lecca. I started growing them in semi hydro with lecca, but I do like the pumice much more. So the last 4 years I started to switch them in to pumice.

    Hi there EJ. I need some advice. I switched over half of my phal collection into semi hydro.
    About 2 months ago and now all the roots are dying off. And the plants are producing roots above the pumice any suggestions? Did this happen to you?

    • @TheOrchidSaGa
      @TheOrchidSaGa  4 месяца назад +1

      Yes, it did! It took me a while to figure it out…. If you repot them into a S/H setup, you might want to wait before you make a reservoir. I explain this in my “6 easy steps to adapt” video. Step 5 is very imported. Water your plants like you would do in a bark/moss setup. Just until you see new roots growing in the pot. This can also be new branches from the older roots. Then you can start filling up the reservoir. I like to start the first 2 - 3 weeks with only RO water and a little bit off seaweed. No fertilizer yet. I found that the new roots do not like salts yet. So to get them to grow a bit better, easier into the pots you don’t want any salts building up. As soon as your orchid is starting to grow new (branching) roots in the pot, it is basically accepting the new media. That often means new roots growing from the stem (of bulbs) will start growing into the media better…. I hope this makes senses? Good luck, it sounds to me you are almost there even though it might not look like it yet. Here is a link to that video: ruclips.net/video/igEIAlXw8zQ/видео.html

    • @anndriggers6660
      @anndriggers6660 4 месяца назад

      @TheOrchidSaGa thank you EJ! That makes total sense! Thank you for taking the time to explain that and putting the link for me. You're awesome! I'll keep trying! It's worth it if I can even get just 1/10 of the success that you have in your greenhouse.Your orchids are unreal! Meaning, they don't even look real, they're so beautiful.
      I really appreciate your help and again, thank you so much.
