Al Kaline was Roberto Clemente without all the soap opera. Clemente is continuously feted while Kaline is often overlooked, but Kaline was just as good as, if not better than, Clemente, because he had more power and was just as good in every other facet of the game.

Strong delusion. Clemente was better than Kaline and ALL 3 of the Tigers outfielders. He would never had been the "odd man out". Please!

@@danieldawkins7960 The only thing Clemente did that Kaline didn't do was die dramatically. Clemente had a 20 pt. higher lifetime batting average but Kaline had almost 150 more home runs and a higher career on base pct.
I'd say that more than evens out. Damn, looking at the record, Kaline even had more stolen bases. In those days there was a definite National League bias in the media which automatically valued Clemente over Kaline because Clemente played in the NL, but we saw in the 68 WS how Kaline hit supposedly superior NL pitching.
I'm not saying Kaline was better than Clemente, but I am saying he was just as good in every department of the game except for average hitting, which the analytics people now tell us is overrated. But Clemente was an exciting guy who you could make movies about and Kaline was just a dull kid from Baltimore and that fools a lot of people.

It makes one glad for Al Kaline that he got his one World Series ring in 1968 in his long baseball career.

Would have been nice to see the other catch and throw Al made to keep Brock on third in game 4.

There are times I swear I can hear shades of Ernie in Dan's voice! Kind of eerie, but in a really good way!

K lines hit in game 5 did put the winning runs across the plate was the beginning of the Tigers three-game sweep in game 5 6 and 7 K line and Mickey lolich are the true heroes of that Classic series

Don't forget they could never have won the series without that masterpiece that Denny mclain threw in game 6, matter of fact they would have never made the series without his 31 wins, one of the all-time great seasons by a pitcher in my lifetime

Northrup was probably their biggest hitting star of the series. Hit 2 homers like Kaline, including the Grand Slam in game 6, then got the big triple in Game 7 that broke the scoreless duel between Gibson and Lolich.

@@kevinkwiatkowski7197 Well, since they scored 13 runs, they probably could have. After they got that big lead, they should have taken McLain out and saved him for possible relief duty in Game 7.

al kaline was never not gonna play in the world series. he was healthy, so he was gonna play. most of the time, they put northrup in center. personally, i would rather have stanley's glove over horton's bat. stanley at short was about the only good thing mayo smith ever did. he was a dumb manager, often making the stupidest of decisions.
