I just took my mother’s 2010 Prius to the Toyota dealership with the problems described in this video. I was quoted over $4,000 to overhaul the inverter with the 4 DTC’s herein. I happened to watch this video just before giving repair permission … it was completely covered as described here!!! Without this info I would have been fleeced. Can’t thank you enough!!!
I think there's a Toyota manufacturer 1800 number you need to call and they'll make the arrangement with the dealer I called that 1800 number once before and need it now for myself but I don't remember what it was.
I was a Lexus tech and started in mid 1989 with 1990 model year cars and I worked for 2 different Dealerships in Southern California and that was a really good video on your Prius Inverter removal..Excellent.. Outstanding👍👍
My 2011 popped the error right after hitting a bumpy part of the road during a rain. Resetting the battery got it limping home and the next day it won't run at all even after power reset. Got it towed to the dealer and wait. They first quoted $4500 inverter replacement then said it's covered. The work order only mentioned they replaced some transistors as it was ready in half a day. So they would do whole assembly replacement when you are paying and component repair if they're footing the bill. Not complaining, it's just business. Glad I dodged the bullet this time around. Cheers.
Thank you so much for the information. I have 2010 prius. Master warning ⚠️ on with check hybrid system message. Brought the car to toyota dealership & got a new inverter installed for free. Thank you!!!
I am so impressed with the competent and conscientious Hybrid expert like yourself. I don't own a Prius, but I have owned and have driven a 2007 Hybrid Camry for 17 years. Fortunately, I have had no problems or issues with the hybrid system. You make me feel very confident of Toyota's quality and people working there whenever I take my car to Toyota for maintenance services. Thank you.
One of the few brave enough to try an in-inverter repair. Thank you. If I think my inverter's cooling channels are clogged is it worth it to try and unclog them do you think?
I totally switched out my inverters and was able to do it much easier thanks to this video. I checked on my warranty and because my Prius is a Salvage they won't warranty it.. I just happen to have another 2010 that I bought from a friend for parts and switched them out. I will go and buy the special antifreeze then flush and fill and bleed it then try to start it. Fingers crossed.
I agree. You can't beat Toyota. After 180,000 miles Fowler Toyota in Tulsa is replacing my inverter for free and gave me a loaner while waiting for the new inverter to arrive and be installed. My Prius is the best car I've ever had (even considering the brake system).
This video is amazing!! Your technical knowledge and experience with inverters is outstanding! How did you initially have the guts to open up your first inverter? My question is about diagnosing a bad inverter. How do you diagnose it before yanking it out of the car? Are there OBD2 codes (such as POAO9) that 100% indicate a bad inverter? I want to be sure before I pay for towing my car to dealership and their $300 diagnostic charge (which is refunded if problem is inverter). thanks
Hi. I just watched your video u have a 2011 Prius and this morning my car is showing this message and it also doesn’t let me put it in drive only neutral. Can it be related to the inverter? I tried looking into a recalls for my car it shows none
I had a problem in DC inverter of my 2012 prius v on June 2024. All dash board light came on. I took my vehicle Toyota dealership. They replaced the part inside of DC inverter. Toyota covered all expenses including labor cost. If you are facing same problem then don’t hesitate to go Toyota Dealership. Thanks
Mine just went out and when I looked up the VIN number no recalls showed up. I call Toyota and they said on their end nothing showed up and that the recall doesnt cover my 2010 prius.
@@TheYotaChannel Hello, I just want to publicly say thank you for helping me out with my inverter issue. I did take it to Toyota dealer and they looked everything up and said YES it is 100% cover for 20 years. That saved me from taking the Prius to a junkyard and being out a vehicle. But of course there was other issues they found like bad barring's and a few other small issues, but figured I might as well get those fixed as well since I'll be driving it for a bit longer. But again man, I really appreciate you taking the time to check into for me and giving me advice! God Bless!
Where can i get information or where or who do i call to regarding this customer confidence program for their inverter?...im having an issue now where they replaced a catalyic converter, but somehow in their care the hybrid system indicator came on and they are saying the hybrid inverter failed...so they may be quoting me 4500 to replace the inverter...and if program covers 20 years (does it require enroll in a warranty program?)...try and get them to replace it for free..not trying to dish out 4500 when i already dished out 1k for an insurance claim repair of my catalyic
The TSB i read said 96 months or 100,000 miles for the warranty. or 15 years if it is registered in California. I hope it is 20 years but i don't know how to find out.
Hi @@TheYotaChannel I have a 2012 Toyota Prius and I got the message on the dash saying check “hybrid system.” The scanner reads code “P0A39,” but this one is not listed for the warranty program. Do you think it still worth it to take to dealership to find out if the warranty can cover the repair? Are you familiar with the repair of this code? Thank you
My 2015 prius v isn't showing any codes on the scanner, but all the lights on the dash are on including the check engine and car won't start. Just replaced the hybrid battery month ago so i know its not that. Any guesses what could it be?
Toyota has a special service campaign that covers the 2010-2015 Toyoya prius inverter repairs free of charge regardless of mileage. And yes, just call the dealer, and the dealer will plug their scanner and check for codes. If the code points to the inverter, then Toyota will cover it free of charge.
Toyota issued an extended coverage for the booster in the 2010-2015 models. The coverages expired for the 2010-2014 year models. If you have a 2015 and under 150k miles, Toyota will cover it.

There is an extended warranty available for the IMP REPAIR, 20 years with no mileage limitation if you have those codes stored.
My first inverter repair took me a while because i had to read the manual page by page, but now I've done hundreds, i can do them in 2hrs in and out.
By chance is it possible with nissan altima hybrid because they have same hybrid system ?

Excellent! Thank you sharing much detail. Do you happen to know if Lexus , 2015 CT200h specifically, is the same hybrid wiring as the Prius?
Yes, they are wired very similarly. I'm sure part numbers will differ, but the general hybrid system is wired the same.
Good job junior
Where is the sensor temp lower in the imverter? And which is de number part the a new part? Thanks
do you replace the inverter pump when doing this repair, and is that covered?
Hey, no, the inverter water is not replaced and is not covered under this campaign.
This the most informative video I had watch, how do I find my 2015 Pruis inverter still under warranty, and where are you locate at?
Ask the advisor to run your VIN number, and they can tell you. Im 100 percent sure if you have a 15, then you will have the extended coverage.

What is the name of the newly installed partition?
Mine just went out and when I looked up the VIN number no recalls showed up. I call Toyota and they said on their end nothing showed up and that the recall doesnt cover my 2010 prius.
It covers 2010-2015. The trouble codes have to be related to the inverter. If you email your VIN, i can take a look and see.

How do you know you have an updated one
There is no way of telling unless you check the service history at the dealer by giving them the vin number.
