So I’ve never done anything athletic that required balance like skateboarding, surfing, snowboarding etc…can’t even do a single pull-up haha. This video literally taught me how to get up on the FIRST try yesterday. The knees bending tip did it for me, just brought them as close into my chest as possible and leaned back, once the rope pulled me forward I kept leaning back, pressed into my legs and stood up I was honestly kind of shocked. Yay for youtube!!!
Thanks man!! I tried wakeboarding for the first time yesterday and clearly I forgot to bend at the knee so I was getting dragged facedown but after watching this video I think I will be able to get up on the wave‼️ thanks for this
I mainly watched 25 seconds of this video (1:50-2:15) to learn how to stand up. Mostly got up on my first try and was up the second. This was after I joined my college’s waterski/wakeboard team with zero experience because I liked a guy there and wanted to try something new. Thanks for helping me impress him. We’ve been dating almost two years.
Man, you make it look soooo easy that I'm on CL looking for one of those boards already. I hope at 58 its not too late for me to learn to do that. I'll let you know when I have mastered those tricks. Thank you.
Thanks for this! My two oldest kids are finally showing interest in wakeboarding, and I've been doing my best to explain how to get up but apparently I suck at explaining it😂 anyway I'll be showing them this video tonight, and we are also on the lake of the ozarks! 👍
@@videosbyevo thanks for getting back to me mate! goal 1. Basics of riding stance. I feel so nervous toeside and catch my edge when I go hard. I think I must be leaning over at the hips. Heel side seems much more natural (obviously). Id love to be able to feel confident cutting around on the surface 2. Ideally, by the end of the summer, I'd like to be able to do wake to wake from heel and toe. When I do heel side at the moment, I can't get an my further than 3/4. Can only imagine what I'm doing wrong. Could be 1 million things. I am self teaching at the moment. My old man and I saved up for a boat last year but previously we have only skied.
@@MattDRT0358 Sounds like a good plan! Definitely pay attention to the way your leaning, or not, with toeside. Definitely scary at first, but once you unlock it, you're set. Good luck
I’m just starting and I get up fine but I’m nervous I’ll lose control trying to go side to side, so I just stay in the center. This was a very helpful video and now I know what to keep in mind to do this. I’m going to try to get on the other sides of the wake tomorrow! I know that’s super basic but I think once I feel comfortable with that I’ll be more confident to try more fun things! Thanks for the tips!
Great video, I stood up on the first time, thank you very much… I have a question, I’ve been learning to slalom and I use my left foot behind, so on the board I feel more comfortable with my left foot behind, tried to put my right foot behind but I can’t control the waves in that position.
Hi Kirby, great tips, do another how-to-drive a boat with a wake boarder. Here is my experience- driver guns it- yank my arms out, or wall of water or worse pop up and then going so slow you sink back into the lake. All followed by exhaustion. It took me four years to get up on a board. Why,? The boat driver! Most drivers only know water skiing. Plus, being 215 lbs most drivers run me at 25 mph and I need 28 to be able to relax. Learning to board means drivers Ed. Thanks
Very helpful! I tried to get up for many hours before watching this video, thinking that my water skiing experience would be enough. Got up second try after this video. Thank you
Great video Kirby! Just went out with my boss and co-workers yesterday and was my first time. Got up on 2nd pull and picked up balance pretty quick. When going to toe-side, is it safe to say that you don’t want to learn forward much..or, at all? Lol. The 2nd the front of the board barely tipped the surface it immediately went under and I flew forward.
I started a couple years ago but I've only done about 5 wakeboarding days since, and I have a doubt about the lead foot. I kick with the right foot, but I find it easier to keep myself up with my left on the back. I have tried both ways and that was the one that felt most comfortable. I know it is possible to learn either way and alternate between them, but do you think I should try changing this habit? Thanks a lot, btw, great video!
doesnt having the tow tower help pull you up out of the water more? Cause on my boat we dont have one and i struggle so much to get myself above the water. I have yet to been able to ride because i cant get up out of the water
I’m trying it tommorow I kick a ball with my right foot but when I snowboard and skate board I put my right foot in the front can I do that instead of putting it in back?
the stance thing is kind of incorrect. many people kick with the right and are goofy-footed (left foot in the back). a more accurate test is to naturally walk up a flight of stairs. the foot that goes first is typically your back foot.
I hate my friend after watching this. It was my first time trying this and I am almost 50. Tried for 2hrs to stand up. Face planted so many times. My strategy to him was pull slow and increase gradually so I can learn to feel the pressure. My buddy says you have to go fast that son of a b!tch. Now i have to show him this video. Never stood up once.

Agreed!
39 years old and just discovered wakeboarding. Today is my second day out and here I am going down the RUclips rabbit hole. Thanks!
Welcome aboard!
Im 36 and im wakeboarding for the first time this saturday too🤣🤣🤣
I am 50 and just tried Snowboarding. I plan to live forever 😊. So far so good😊

Thanks for this, I was pushing with my feet making it act like a plow, I then couldn’t hold onto the tow rope because I was pushing so much water
I snowboard and want to try this. It looks pretty similar but on the water. Thanks for the tips.👍

58 is not the main issue. 58 and 170lbs not much of a challenge. 58 yrs and 300lbs, then "good luck".
Thank you so much I think that will really help me to learn on the new wakeboard that I got for Christmas
Good luck!
Yarım saattir arıyorum sonunda anlatan biri buldum çok teşekkür ederim
Going to try it for the 1st time this summer. Wish me luck! Thanks

hopefully it clears soon.
Looking forward for the next tutorial! This really helped✨
Glad to hear it. What would you like to see next?

sounds like it is a lot like i teach my students in snowboarding. great tips now it's time to try it out. thanks!
Amazing my mom and dad are practicing I will practice next year but now I cant bc I’m too young I will show them this video incredible
I love this sport.
This would have saved me hours of swallowing lake...
Oh no! You'll get it next time!
LOL
evo hey man... do all of these tips apply to bigger people meaning fatter people like myself because I’m not that athletic At all...
atleast you weren't swallowing ocean water like me
Same bruh
biggest advice for going from winch to boat? finally learned in a park a couple weeks back and want to migrate over!
Winter here in Australia, but please keep doing these! I'm new to this and want to get good next summer!!

Awesome video 👍 I'm 65 years old, wondering if it would be too much for my knees? Just got a GoPro Hero 8, love it! It inspires me to be creative.
Excellent video. I can't wait to try this the next time I'm in Miami.
Thx dude helped me a lot 💪😊

Any different advice for boats without a tower? Or same principles but its just a lil tougher?
that axis is badass

Very helpful! I tried to get up for many hours before watching this video, thinking that my water skiing experience would be enough. Got up second try after this video. Thank you
This helped alot! Great job.
You can also use a pulley for wakeboarding in some places
Great straightforward tips!
Could you do a video about how to set up the boat. Speed, wake, etc.
It's on our to-do list!
Wish me luck guys about to head out
Good luck!
This is really helpful
Thank you so much this helped a lot :).
Very helpful man 🤙🙏😎
I tried to wakeboard for an hour straight.. and everyone was telling me I needed to keep my legs as straight as possible when trying to get up AGHHH
Sounds like you need a better teacher lol
Very cool

Wish I watched this yesterday before I embraced myself and got waterboarded multiple times
Well we're trying with a jetski 😂 thanks this should help lots!
Just completed a whirlybird and scarecrow can you go over surface 180 again please?
What’s the ideal rope length for wakeboarding
Thanks.
I am going to your wake school and you know my mom!
Nice vid
Thanks
What if I don't gave a tower on my boat and I have my top attached low on my boat. Will it be harder?
hey mate, will these processes work the same if i’m using a bridle Y harness on my boat?
How would a bayliner bowrider 170 do for wakeboarding?
I don’t have a tower to connect the rope. I can connect it next to the motor. Does this work?
I kick with my left foot, but I put my left foot forward when I snowboard🤔
I started a couple years ago but I've only done about 5 wakeboarding days since, and I have a doubt about the lead foot. I think whatever comes natural to you man, I ride a snowboard and wakeboard regular but I kick with my left foot, so it’s perfectly normal
i can get up but once i get up i have problems staying up. my board wants to flip feet or go straight on with the boat making me fall. any tips?
I like it but I wakeboard goofy. Do they make the boards so the fin is on both ends of the wakeboard? Or made specifically to goofy style?
What do you think about a crownline would it be good for this or no
Do your run fins front and back
Can someone wakeboard by being pulled by a Yamaha waverunner?
"Then you can start going for whirlly birds! Just kidding" 😂
You saved me yesterday I face planted a lot 😂
Good video but I'm going to try to teach a 5 and 6 yr old lol plus I've never wake boarded before but can ski pretty well
I skateboard a lot and a bit of snowboarding, do you think that it will be easier for me to learn because I do those sports?
Absolutely! You'll probably pick it up nice and quick.
@@videosbyevo good! I’m pretty relieved
I’d say once you’re “up” then those sports help it seem natural. But getting up is unique to wakeboarding ( and kitesurfing )
You don't need a boat. There are many cable spots also.
is turning just like on a snowboard?
doesnt having the tow tower help pull you up out of the water more? Cause on my boat we dont have one and i struggle so much to get myself above the water. I have yet to been able to ride because i cant get up out of the water
How big of a motor do you have? You can do it without a tower just a bit tougher
How fast do u go?
Yes
What about ski boats
What about them?
can you wakeboard properly with a Jetski? thanks
Absolutely

I think my uncle has that boat just a diffrent color
Anyone else being forced to watch this even tho they pop right up while wakeboarding and can pretty much jump lol
No wonder I can’t stand up and I just get my arms ripped off! I’m doing too much and pushing down with me feet.
I just switch feet for what side of the boat I’m going on cause I’m ambidextrous
I wish I was like that lol
Same
I'm ambidextrous
I learned on the ocean waves and a fishing boat. lakes and special boats are for chumps.
Wild!
How fun is that?
The real question is how do I get back in the wake of
Ok so I tried and it seemed a lot easier if you put your dominate leg in the back. I drank about 3 gallons of lake water…
So long boarding??
