    Looks beautiful. My advice for what it's worth. Just get the engine running and give it a service. Antifoul straight over what's already there just scrape away any flakey antifoul. And get it in the water and rigged ASAP, once your sailing you will find out what needs to be done and what you can live with. If you end up just starting lots of jobs you'll never get it in the water.

    That was some sound advise, quick coat of anti fouling, service the engine, and get it back in the water asap. Remember it’s a wooden boat and it will dry out/leak.

    Love the interior, looks cosy. I really hope she can sail without a massive overhaul. I would do what you can to make her safe in the water then draw up a plan of work over the next 5 years. Not everything will need done at once

    Good luck. I hope this boat project lasts longer than the other ones and this boat gets you back to Colombia 🇨🇴. That would be muy bueno.

    very beautiful boat. I am the owner of the 2ft smaller Fortunella 34 from the same builder. also Iroko and steel. very beautiful way of building. my advise: check every inch on rot with a sharp screwdriver. If you have a rotten piece you have to replace it. but i chose to cover the few pieces with glass fiber for one year. next winter the rotten planks will be replaced. just finished my first trip and she is a blast under sail. If you have any questions feel free to contact me!

    Another huge project you’re taking on. What happened to the 30ft Dutch steel yacht on Canvey you purchased? We live near there and knew of its whereabouts. Stopped by recently to see how project going but it looked abandoned

    the black thing in the forward berth is a collapsible step, often found on the mast. Lift and tip out, then you can step up to climb out the forward hatch.

    He keeps saying "I've got plenty to do so lets get on with it' then does nothing but poke around doing bugger all. I've got the feeling you don't know much about sail boats, have you sailed much or owned a keel boat before, especially an old timber keel boat?
    I hope you can work hard and have deep pockets

    Very pretty boat! Looks like the engine ignition key was on top of of the chart table when you opemed it and it slipped back behind.
    What @boatsandengines says is spot on and best advice.... but also check all your seacocks are free and working and inspect the keel bolts
    I hope you crack on with this one. What are you doing with others you have bought, or have you let them go to another home?

    My only thought, break anything into small projects. That way you don't get overwhelmed. It looks like you should be taking a look at the hoses though.

    What boat is this? You know the saying "a free boat is the most expensive one" ? :) How is the condition of the hull, does it have a lot of osmosis? Is the engine working? The boat itself looks very classic, I like the wooden steering wheel. But it looks like You'll have a lot of work with it and need to replace quite some stuff.

    • @mjcooke2sailingmostly
      @mjcooke2sailingmostly 6 месяцев назад +1

      It's wood so no osmosis, just other possible worries. A good buy though.

    Wooden? Whichever way you will take to make her sea worthy it will cost a lot. I would recomend to make her not leaking from up side so you can keep her dry inside. You have to take everything away and check which peaces of wood are rotten and must be replaced with new wood or plywood. When you got everything solid and free from painting you should glass fibre her. You should do the same thing with the hull. But you must take everything away and close all through holes. The rudder and fittings of course. When you have got everything free from paint and you have repaired all bad wood you should cover her outside and upside with glass fibre. Perhaps four layers would be enough. This will be the start and will take some time. To do the rest with rigging, inside and motor you can think about when you are sanding and repairing outside. No idea to go into those details now. The boat is in a good size and it will be fine once you have covered everything and got her painted. I wish you luck with your boat.
