      In Mexico we celebrate St. Patrick’s day because during the war with the US in 1846 a group of irish soldiers who were fighting in the US side decided to fought with us and they were all killed by the US army

    I live in The Netherlands and I am a Turkish boy.
    I am thinking to go to Mexico someday.
    I do watch different places of Mexico from my virtual reality glasses almost everyday and I also like Guadalajara and the mountains of Mexico.
    My heart and my soul and my feelings says that Mexico is a friendly country and has a friendly culture.
    I hope that it is true what I said?
    If not then I don't know what to say...
    Adiós.

      Mexico's Irish tradition dates back to the U.S. Invasion of Mexico (1846-1848) when all of the Irish in the U.S. army deserted the U.S. army and most of them joined the Mexican army and fought gallantly and bravely to defend Mexico. One place neither of you has visited is the Museum of Foreign Interventions which also happens to be the site of the Batallon de San Patricio's last battle, the Battle of Churubusco at the old Convento de Churubusco. You should visit, it is right next to the General Anaya metro stop which you stop at if you take the metro to Coyoacan.

    This parade has many years, but we also celebrate with "Batallón de San Patricio", those who help us in the mexican-americain war, on August 20th in some placers like "Convento de Churubusco". Now that place is a museum... There were take place one of the most important battles in that date. There is huge celebration with competition of pipe-groups (gaytas)... And, as Nari said: time to drink!!!

    The Irish not only deserted the army but fought in the Mexican army. As a consequence they were hung up to death. Others were marked with a giant D on their face. And were forced to be slaves. They were heroes. And we must remember them as heroes. Just a little portion of the survived and received lands in Mexico.

    • @laurabahena1175
      @laurabahena1175 5 лет назад +3

      Mexico has always been ethnically diverse! Just that the focus has always been on the negative some times. Look for those descendants of Italy, France, Africa, Chinese, Jewish, Arab , Germany, Korea and others! It is not strange though that you are just getting to know this. It's a plus that you have been witness of this. Of course the country has always tried to popularize most of its American Indian cultures most of all. Why? Because this is what constitutes most of what Mexico is made off or at least Indian American mixed with some other group.

    Every time I hear that kind music the scene of Jack and Rose on the Titanic comes to my mind. Mexico loves Ireland for its help in the San Patricio Battalion during the Mexico-US war, when the US stole half of its land to Mexico. By the way, the festival looks great and fun.

      "...when the US stole half of its land to Mexico." That makes no sense.

    • @luc9-5
      @luc9-5 6 лет назад +14

      Learn some history, the US occupied the lands of Mexico with hundreds of illegal immigrants from the United States, that was the first way they stole it's land to Mexico, then they financed a war in Texas to become independent from Mexico and then they looked for a ridiculous excuse to start a war with Mexico and stole all of it's northern lands: revcom.us/i/454/MexicoStolenLand_V2.jpg

    If you enjoyed this parade. You really must come to Taxco this Holydays. It's a totally diferent experience. You'll se a diferent kind of turism called religious turism. And you'll see why Mexico is so religious. The most important part of this is, if you decide to come, Thursday is the most important day, so you have to be in Taxco on Wednesday if you want. But the Holyweek starts on Monday with little processions all over the town. You can google it like Semana Santa en Taxco. This is the opposite side of the spring break.
    Saludos!!

      MaryLou Guzman traditions? No ma'am, this is a tribute to Saint Patrick Batallion, during the Mexican-america war 200+ desorted from the USA army to join the Mexican army, THAT'S WHY THIS CELEBRATION TO HONORED THOSE WHO DIED FIGHTING FOR MEXICO. I don't know where you from but if for some reason you tend to be a Mexican, you better learn your history

    for anyone wondering why they celebrate st patricks day in mexico. Its mostly due to the st patricks brigade a brigade of irishmen who defected from the us army to the mexican army during the mexican american war. After it saw the us army gun down civilians.

    The Mexican ppl and the Irish have a mutual admiration society. The Natives of Mexico, the Aztecs, also, had been enslaved, sent help to the Irish. They collected money, the Spanish said they couldn't send money, as they were slaves and how did we collect the money. The Aztecs took the money, and converted it to seed, corn, blankets, food. The Irish r so gracious to still remember the Natives help. We had been enslaved, ur desperate cries were carried by the wind, we heard you and felt you. Then the San Patricios sealed the deal in México, with their brave history in Mexico. There are monuments to the San Patricios in México, they were also honored by a postal stamp. The biggest Anglo group in México, is the Irish. Think St Patrick's day may be the only shared holiday, besides Christmas and New year, between the USA and México. They celebrate it very similar.
