My newest video on how to adjust shoulder seams, including how to make the chest smaller in the same adjustment seam/dart. This one reduces the width of the shoulders and the chest. You can even take the dart seam all the way down to reduce the hip width as well. How To Adjust Shoulder Seams And Chest - DIY - Fashion Design - Emily Keller - The Fashion Run-Up ruclips.net/video/uMIiRAg_iXU/видео.html
Could you re do this video but in a loghter colored shirt? It was so hard to follow the instructions. Also, more explanation on how to measure/place where the darts are going to be?
Hi Emily. My problem with my hoodie is that it's a mens hoodie (I'm a female) and I initially bought this hoodie because I wanted a bigger-style comfy hoodie, but the shoulders on this item are too high and squared. I hoped they'd be falling loose but they don't. So when I wear it, I look bulky and my shoulders look squared. The sleeves are very long which is great. Ideally I would like the point of the shoulder that peaks up/squares up, to fall more subtle onto my arms. I wish for the shoulder seam to fall lower. Is there anything I can do about that? I can show you pictures if you like.. Please help?
Darting the shoulders could help bring the square shoulder points closer to your actual shoulders. And your shoulder/bicep would start to fill out the sleeve cap which would help it to lay cleaner.
Ideally straight. But because of sewing the dart on the bias of the fabric, rather than straight down the grain of the fabric, they easily end up slightly curved.

Interesting that you chose to dart rather than to take in the entire shoulder. I understand that it can get complicated having the measure out the points, but if you want to hide your tailoring, there would be no other option right?
Right. If you want to hide it, that would mean taking it out of existing seams, which would mean taking apart the garment. Which is substantially more work, and probably irreversible if you start cutting.
Here's a lighter shirt with the same method ruclips.net/video/-wHe2P0Ei9c/видео.html (maybe too light in this one!) Here's another one that's more of a medium color where I reduce the shoulder and chest width ruclips.net/video/uMIiRAg_iXU/видео.html

Difficult to see detail due to dark fabric
Thanks for the comment! A lot of people agree with you! Next one I'll do a lighter color shirt.
Lighter shirt tutorial is here! ruclips.net/video/-wHe2P0Ei9c/видео.html Hope you can see this one better :)
That's awesome! I thought I would have to remove the arms from my shirt which I was dreading, but I'm gonna have to try this! Thank you!!
I hope it's successful for you!

Thanks for the suggestions! I'll choose a lighter shirt for the next one.
Thank you, great idea, make a pleat rather than altering the shoulder seam.
I agree.. can’t see a thing!!

Omg thanks so much for this tutorial!
You’re welcome!
Everything i buy either doesnt fit my shoulder or its big like wtf. I always adjust everything i buy
Basically me too! Almost nothing fits off the rack.
Yes
I wish you would have used a lighter fabric. I'm a senior sewer and couldn't see what you were doing

I have the same issue! Did you ever find a solution for it?
Darting the shoulders could help bring the square shoulder points closer to your actual shoulders. And your shoulder/bicep would start to fill out the sleeve cap which would help it to lay cleaner.
good job, however it does now make the sleeve cap in height look short, no?
V cool
Thank you :)
I really liked your solution, but because your garment was black, I couldn't see any of what you were showing to do. :-(
I made a new video. I hope this is more visible! ruclips.net/video/-wHe2P0Ei9c/видео.html
Is that also possible to do that for a men`s shirt like that with the darts?
Yeah definitely!
Are these darts supposed to be super sharp? or slightly curved?
Ideally straight. But because of sewing the dart on the bias of the fabric, rather than straight down the grain of the fabric, they easily end up slightly curved.
Please show the same in a light coloured fabric, It's very difficult to see what you are doing in the black fabric

A rule of thumb for making a video on sewing----use light color fabric. I couldn't see a thing of what you were doing on your garment.

Hello! Thank you for the tutorial. I'm here for the sewing tips, but also: where is that lovely purple/green irredescent nail polish from??
Hi! The nail polish is from Little Ondine. I'm not sure they still have this color, but here's their instagram: instagram.com/littleondine/
Please consider using lighter colored garments/fabric when demoing. I feel like I missed half the presentation.

Agree
Hi,when using a black garment for teaching purposes you could use a light thread so we can see the results better.
The only problem that I have is it on black and it’s very hard to see on the black fabric what you’re doing
Sorry about that! I made a 2nd video that has a lighter color fabric ruclips.net/video/-wHe2P0Ei9c/видео.html
Could see much of what was going on due to the fabric being black. A lighter colour for the tutorial would have helped.

Can’t see should be light color
Thanks for the suggestion! On the next one, I'll remember to do a lighter color shirt.

not practical for not professional tailors.
