This is literally me 😂 I just look at the jump help my pony get straight and hold on 😂 she literally just does it all for me I don't even kick j just hold onto mane and count to my self and her 😂
The 'holy s***' distance made me laugh. Just bought my first horse and as i was riding him for the first time i wasn't told that he's an ex-racer and eventer..he took that holy s*** distance straight away!
Same with my godfather's mare. She used to be a showjumper, and the first time I jumped with her, it was an entire hour of "holy shit" distance lmao it's been years and at that moment I was confused because I was a scrawny 12yo, but remembering it now I think it's hilarious (and while I had enough strength and balance to remain on the saddle, kudos to this awesome mare for never making me fall with her powerful jumps. I loved her very much.)
Celeste Hills Well, I'm training a gelding for my friend, and she wants me to train him in show jumping. We're working on striding at distances right now. I personally do eventing.
Ashley Dawnhurricane i do hunter jumper, but i only do so because my mare can't jump high, so i'm buying a warmblood for eventing, which I've been doing for 3 years
Celeste Hills I used to lease a thoroughbred gelding that could jump up to a meter, but he just didn't like what he was being made to do and I hated forcing him to do it. I broke the lease and went out on a limb and bought myself a Dutch Warmblood (don't ask how I afforded one I was paying for her over the span of a long time) and she loves cross country, and she's getting really good with dressage. I wish you luck with your new horse when you get it!
thanks, his name is Tango, and i can't get him yet, hes only 2-3 and needs more training, Aggie, my mare, has extreme arthristest, and i retired her to pasture, although i do ride her. ti wish you luck with helping your friend train his/hers horse
Great exercises guys. I still do that exact thing on my retired Jumper. 23 years old and he LOVES the bending pole lines and cavaletti's. He is eager to participate. Great tool to make flat work fun and not so repetitive. Great way to stay sharp on your aids without any major concussion on the landings time after time. You guys are always a favorite. Cheers from Del Mar, CA.
Am working this on Xui, my daughter's (7 y/o) former Dressage throughbred. Just did it the first time today, your video makes it look a lot easier than it is - trying to school a green horse is fun, he cantered over the poles and on his last ground pole, jumped three feet in the air going over. Yes, having a good seat is important ;-)
This channel is so much help to me! I a, currently helping to "train up" a really green 7 year old pony at riding. Along with two other girls and an instructor. She is owned by someone (she's called misty btw) who brought her to a riding school because it was cheaper. Misty wasn't getting enough exercise at home, she as ridden only once or twice a week. I was the first person to jump her at my riding school and this video helped me a lot with this pony because she charges at the jumps(I've watched that vid), puts her head down before and after a jump which almost got me thrown off a few times but I'm okay and gets all her strides mixed up. This helped me because I can now count the strides up to a jump and know when she is going to go wrong so I can correct her or just be prepared. She isn't rushing as much since I've been working on half halting and trot to halt and different listening and calming exercises. She is improving dramatically and most of it is because of stuff I've learnt from this channel, so thankyou for that Evention Tv 😂💕
My biggest problem is speeders, the horses I ride absolutely love to jump, so when they see one they can't get their fast enough. So they lengthen their stride and I get that Oh Shit distance! XD I can collect them at any other time, but as soon as a jump is in sight, it is like trying to control a freight train by hand.
Omg same 😂 the other day we were doing a double jump and the last Ike we didn’t I had to walk her up I the first jump well more like a trot at walk speed 😂 and then I let her go yeah she loves it 😂
My personal favorite for the long spot is called the "Jesus take the wheel" distance! Love it! Also loved the intro to HJU..."for those of you who live under a rock..." HA! Keep it up you guys! Wonderful!
I LOVE EVENTION TV!!!! I have a green horse who's new to jumping and has no scope at all. I think these types of exercises with adjustability will really help her find a better take off spot! Please make more! Thanks!
All these people are just like "I'm the holy s*** distance." I'm just like "pfft, these noobs. I'm the OHGODI'MgONNADIE distance" because my horses always jump from like 8 strides away and then catleap every jump in the arena, whether we're meant to jump them or not.
I always thought like most people that all I needed to do was get into my position and let my horse do it for me. Then my instructor taught my to grunt my 3 strides, to keep my leg on and squeeze and keep the energy. I've went from not placing in my comps to getting 1st the other night, this is well worth learning, ask an instructor to practise it :)!
Omg today in my lesson ahh we were jumping and I was cantering my horse towards a cross bar. We got so close to the jump and I was like "JUMP JUMP MIKA DO YOUR THANG!" But NO. Mika barrelled right through the jump instead of actually jumping it 🙈
it is good to practice shortening and lengthening at the trot. Sometimes a young horse doesn't understand that they can shorten their canter and they break. So practicing the shortening at the trot translates to the canter.
My secret to seeing the perfect distance? I take a guess, pray while approaching, then scream profanities while taking either the holy shit distance, the cat leap distance, or the perfect one. Nothin to it! 👌🏻
Okaay, question... if you can't shorten your horse's canter enough to do the 7 strides, should you wait with adding the cavalletties ans practice a shorter canter and building mor e muscle or should you go a head and just add them and then maybe practice the strides an other day? Thanks! :-)
There's this horse at my barn that when jumping, will always try to get you to do a holy shit distance. He's so fun to ride and do really anything with!
Was anyone in the beginning so confused and checked the title to see if you clicked the right video

my horse has a habit of doing the holy s*** distance :P
'The meaning of the show Lost'
I almost fell over in my seat
7:48 what that dog did is ADORABLE. I love when they stretch.
I know all too well the holy shit distance.
yep, do you hunter jump, or show jump?
Celeste Hills Well, I'm training a gelding for my friend, and she wants me to train him in show jumping. We're working on striding at distances right now. I personally do eventing.

You guys neeeeed to come back 😔 best horse channel there ever was
Thank you for this! Because of a move my sister and I haven't been jumping for a month now. Thanks to this 1-3 parts we got back in the groove!
They have a vid for horses that rush. I actually looked at it and it helped for my Thoroughbred mare
if they are taking off with you to a jump i would highly recommend halting them immediately and approaching it again until they are patient.
Omg same 😂 the other day we were doing a double jump and the last Ike we didn’t I had to walk her up I the first jump well more like a trot at walk speed 😂 and then I let her go yeah she loves it 😂
Speeding up can be a sign of anxiety. Try lower fences, build confidence.
Ahahhaha
him: You want to know the meaning of the tv series Lost
Her : well yes but...
MY HORSE FIND HIS OWN PERFECT DISTANCE EVERY TIME AND IM NOT EVEN KIDDING I JUST HAVE TO HOLD ON FOR DEAR LIFE.
Sally Wolff oh that really not good.
Can we just talk about how calm that dog is?
What a cute and relaxed horse :) almost falling asleep before they start riding😃
I love these videos, my horse demonstrates the oh shit distance very well
My personal favorite for the long spot is called the "Jesus take the wheel" distance! Love it! Also loved the intro to HJU..."for those of you who live under a rock..." HA! Keep it up you guys! Wonderful!
I LOVE EVENTION TV!!!!

The beginning of this video--still can't stop laughing. Really--so funny : )
All these people are just like "I'm the holy s*** distance." I'm just like "pfft, these noobs. I'm the OHGODI'MgONNADIE distance" because my horses always jump from like 8 strides away and then catleap every jump in the arena, whether we're meant to jump them or not.
My lesson horse who I ride is an OTTB and HE is very familiar with the "Holy ****" distance 😂😂👌🏼🐴
I always thought like most people that all I needed to do was get into my position and let my horse do it for me. Then my instructor taught my to grunt my 3 strides, to keep my leg on and squeeze and keep the energy. I've went from not placing in my comps to getting 1st the other night, this is well worth learning, ask an instructor to practise it :)!
aww the horse is so cute at the end, he's (she's?) falling asleep! haha we always do the "holy ****!" distance:D
Is anyone else just binging these video? Can’t wait to see my horse after quarantine.
Evention is just my favourite thing!
Make a tv show. I would watch every episode lol your videos are so helpful!
Omg today in my lesson ahh we were jumping and I was cantering my horse towards a cross bar. We got so close to the jump and I was like "JUMP JUMP MIKA DO YOUR THANG!" But NO. Mika barrelled right through the jump instead of actually jumping it 🙈
My mare is like this at times lol she loves to jump but at times she is like nope and just freight trains through anything
Wow, now that's a perfect Guru! (I'm still grinning)
I wish there would be lessons like that for every possible subject.
Well done!
I love the way there is a different Doggy each take :D
This has helped so much! I love adding and subtracting strides :)
love your dog, and can you make a three part beginner episode because new riders watch this all the time even me, also love you guys so much.
I love your videos , thanks again . what wonderful teachers you are.. This sure is your calling .

Oh wow you guys just make everything so entertains and informative! Keep it up, love what you're doing hahaha
hahahahhahaha quaking with the begining very creative
The 'Holy shit" distance, burst out laughing, that's me every time i hit the long spot.
Can you make a series about the position of approaching, take off and landing of the jumps. I need to improve those
I know holy shit distance definitely too well..
amazing video I hope that now I'll begin to see the best distance :)
The subtle change of dog at 8:00 😂
is that dog shaved like a horse? :o
Belamy looks like he's falling asleep at the end :) Very well done and super helpful!
it is good to practice shortening and lengthening at the trot. Sometimes a young horse doesn't understand that they can shorten their canter and they break. So practicing the shortening at the trot translates to the canter.
My pony does the holy sh*t distance frequently😂
Brilliant! Just...brilliant. All of it (and the intro rocked!) :D
I sooo love your theme songgg!😍😍

That`s brilliant. Really enjoyed it!

your videos> my life
Great videos loved the dogs!
Hey it's me in the horse!
5:19
LMAO, is that dog clipped?
Thats what i thought! Its clipped like a horse 🤣
Not even kidding, my horse finds the distance every single time. That's why we make a great pair
there are two things that make a distance track and pace.
My horse always takes jumps way earlier than expected :')) the beautifully bad 'holy s***' distance.
"...also the holy sh*t distance" Truer words have never been uttered XD
Great video! Can someone tell me what type of Charles Owen she is wearing? Thanks!
there's no such thing as a yr8 😂😂
GR8 or JR8
It's the gr8 the freaking strap is so annoying I would get the jr8 if ur looking to buy one
My secret to seeing the perfect distance? I take a guess, pray while approaching, then scream profanities while taking either the holy shit distance, the cat leap distance, or the perfect one.
Nothin to it! 👌🏻
I thought the dog at 4:06 was a freaking fox...🤦🏼♀️😆
Why was her back end never touching the saddle? At 6:04 she was touching but then she kind of lifts all the time, why?
she demonstrating a half seat, so the horse is more able to move underneath
Equine Josie Ok thank you :)
Okaay, question... if you can't shorten your horse's canter enough to do the 7 strides, should you wait with adding the cavalletties ans practice a shorter canter and building mor e muscle or should you go a head and just add them and then maybe practice the strides an other day? Thanks! :-)
Practice, then start the real jumps
Yes, me too! That would really help!
u guys have really cool jumps
Hi, I would like to know the distances., so that I can practice it at home... Thxs
Love these jumps!
hey can u do one on how to get a horse to round out??
that intro 😂 😂
Lol!! I Love the intro!! Very helpful info too.
I have just started riding this year, any tips?
There's this horse at my barn that when jumping, will always try to get you to do a holy shit distance. He's so fun to ride and do really anything with!
This was awesome
Is it better to have a longer jump stride or shorter one if you cant get it in middle?
Shauna Mann My instructor says, “When in doubt, leave one out” so longer :)
saw the intro...pressed like straight away.
the dog gives a cute touch to the lesson :D
I thought I clicked the wrong video in the beginning 😂
"this is also known as the holy fuck distance" LOL this man understands me. enough said.
