We saw the original Winters Tale at the Surf Theater in Huntington Beach,Ca in 1974 or 73. In those days to watch a surfing film you had to go to the movies. No video,DVD,cell phone,or internet,or computer for that matter. No Surfline cams,or forecasts. You went and checked it personally, never knew what you would wake up to find that day😎

I totally agree with you Jordy. We waited for the films of the great American surf film makers to be screened at our local beachside cinema. The next day we all wanted to surf like Miki Dora, Lance Carson, Dewey Webber, Phil Edwards etc etc etc. Lately the original version of AWT has been screening in cinemas in cinemas. It has been re-mastered by The Surf Film Archive, which is searching for many old surf films and re-presenting them on the big screen. Thanks for your input, Phil

They used to show surf films in the 1970's at the firehouse municipal building in Seaside Park,NJ in a big room. All us kids would go it was a total stoked experience for us as all we got to surf were crummy summer waves on the Jersey shore at that age.I remember seeing "A Winter's Tale", "5 Summer Stories" " Pacific Vibrations" and a few more I can't remember the names of.

Thanks so much, I made a Super 8 surf film in '73 High School, SoCal, and we studied Morning of the Earth, Pacific Vibrations, Nirvanic Symphony. Brings back so many memories. I started surfing on the southern US east coast in 1972, at 16. Trip to Hawaii in wnter 1978. Got to see big Pipe and Sunset with my own eyes!
So much style in the 70's. No one does bottom turns at Pipe anymore. People free-falling down that face was so radical. Definitely more dangerous.
