Dionne had the PERFECT voice to pair with male baritones. Her tone was steely, strong in the middle and she had a defined lower register too. So her voice could stand up to Luther, Jeffrey Osborne and others

  • @singingmanmd

Ms. Dionne never need anyone to help her let loose. She sings according to what a song requires!! Live performing has always where she shines most!! You better believe it Luther knows it too. Don't act like he wasnt sweating and giving his all!! She has always been his favorite female singer!! The proof is in all her live performances on You Tube!! MS DIONNE NEEDS NO ONE TO GUIDE HER. Frankly, if necessary, it maybe the other way around.

  • @direfranchement
    @direfranchement 17 лет назад +5

Her head voice held up remarkably well...it was those higher chest notes that were the first to go. When a vocalist has given as much as she has vocally for such a long time and smoked heavily for just as long, of course there are vocal changes. I actually love the richness of her lower voice, and she works around her reduced range quite well...but she's a college educated musician, after all :) Love this performance and this song.

    • @donovanrobinson1843
      @donovanrobinson1843 2 года назад +1

Just like Whitney in the end her head voice was still in tact it was that chest voice that needed a little TLC and with time would’ve came back or she would have reinvented herself as a vocalist as she did before. Dionne was a master at reinventing herself

Here we are, so close to the end now
Still holding on and trying to pretend now
Clinging to love we both know is dying
We've tried and tried to find the solution
But darling, our dreams have now been played out
Still we go on hopelessly trying
But how many times can we say goodbye
How many times can we see love die
And how many times can we give it one more try
    Before we really say goodbye
    Hmmm goodbye (goodbye)
We're so in love but wrong for each other
Each hurt that heals brings on another
Both of us using and both of us using
Darling, it's time to stop pretending
There's just no way to rewrite our ending
    We're caught in this game
And we know we're both losing
How many times can we say goodbye
How many times can we see love die
How many times can we give it one more try (one more)
    Before we really say goodbye
How many times can we breakup and makeup
Both of our hearts refusing to wake up
Just can't go on and on
    Living a lie
    Though I'll always love you
How many times can we say goodbye
How many times can we watch love die
How many times can we give it one more try
How many times before we really say goodbye
    Goodbye (bye-bye)
    Goodbye (bye-bye)
    Goodbye

I don't know about this Luther holding back or even Dionne holding back. They both sang the song with feeling and did not oversing the song. I did not see any "DIVA" moments of anyone trying to out do the other. Luther said throughout his entire career that Dionne meant more to him than anything. They both did a great job and those notes that Dionne hit towards the end was amazing.

I always like Dionne but I thought her style was limited as well (mainly because im used to her singing all the Burt Bacharach tunes which were pretty cool) But after seeing this I was so impressed with Dionne singing those high notes and really getting down!.. i can totally see that running in Whitney Houstons Family :)

Those Bacharach tunes arent easy vocal compositions either. Its just dionne is a master vocalist and is incredibly skilled that we find her approach to be easy but in no way is it.
