Great insight Harley and congratulations on where you are and what you have achieved. The motor trade isn't for everyone, but it is something where dedication, a clear strategy, and a sound work ethic can pay off..... Well done sir!
Harley, your work ethics are great. Your business ethos is brilliant, well-deserved success . My dad gave me the best advice ever. Son, he said if you don't work, you don't eat. I'm retiring in 5 weeks, and I've always headed his advice
Top bloke Harley thanks for sharing the insight on your business and background. Love the energy, passion, drive and how you operate. It's very inspiring stuff.
Well done young man, my lad set up his own business last year recycled streetwear from his grandads garage , like you on his own, I lent him some money that he paid back , Now he has 2 units and 5 staff, selling pre loved and new trainers
Great insight into how a very successful car sales business is run, hope it continues for you!! Love the first 5 minutes or so being sales enquiries 👌🏽😂😂
Bigger fool me for not spotting Charles Trent behind in the opening shots. Makes sense now. Does make things a lot easier when your dad who owns a multi multi million pound company that funded the business. As well as what I’m sure was enough room on private land to trade numerous cars at the beginning. A luxury not for all. As well as not having to buy or rent the grounds you operate from as it’s on the grounds of the Charles Trent business. A huge factor that cripples people’s ability to start car trading or any business for that matter, and keep a business running with forever increased forecourt / land rent. Though no ill feeling. You’re a nice lad and love what you do and care. We can all only play from the cards we are dealt. On the same coin though, some start the game luckier than others with more ability to play.
That is not what Harley says. I am sure he recognizes he has had big advantages, but not as big as you are suggesting. Do you think Harley is lying? Evidence? Very few people are able to be successful without having at least a couple of leg-ups - in Harley's case, bare minimum, good parents who instilled work ethic and brought him up well, driveway space to buy and sell as a teen, and access to reasonably priced and reliable mechanics. Saying that, all of those things are somewhat over-comeable by strong people.

I work from home, for myself, in property. I have almost no costs so I'm good! When I look at commercial property, and consider the monthly bills (rent, rates, utilities) before you even consider staff or stock, then I have no idea how any business succeeds. You have to be so good and dedicated.

Thank you so much for this. It is a parent's job to teach the value of hard work, and to help one's kids (eg become a director to assist a running and succeeding business get finance)... it is not a parent's job to spoon feed their kids. I had worked part time on a farm (very very part time!) for £2 an hour for 3 years before you started working at 15! And not my parent's farm either - I had to cycle 2 miles each way to get there and back. I hope you recognize how much your parent's did give you, even if they weren't giving wads of cash. Arguably more valuable. The giving of cash should come later in life!

I am tempted to say that providing a deposit for a house is a bit different - it is so expensive to rent that if you're able to help your kid buy privilege in terms of home ownership, not least if they still need a big mortgage to "keep them honest" (ie hardworking) because you are only giving a deposit, then you are really helping them out without actually giving them anything really (they are still having to pay to own the house)
@@chrishart8548 I know how expensive property can be! My point is that when prices are so insanely unaffordable, that as a parent, if you are rich and can afford to give your kids £200k each or £400k each as a deposit you really are helping them massively in a very unfair and unaffordable system. As a parent your priority has to be establishing a work ethic, but I fear that is not enough to succeed for many young people in 2024.
@gartgreenside3657 my grandfather passed away my dad inherited around £100k. My dad owns a 3 bed semi worth around £350k.
