Wes, I love the videos that you are doing and have been binge watching when I am able since I found your channel. Thank you very much for the time and effort that you put in to these. I thought that I was handy with machines and electronics... Until I saw you working on the CRTs. Looking forward to this CNC mill coming back to life. Thanks again.
👍👌👏 Very well done again and as always (video and work). Great purchase! Congrats! I'm eagerly looking forward to watch the next part. Best regards, luck and health to all of you.
Excellent. Since I tripped over your channel I've been watching your videos from the earliest to the latest and short or long they are all good. I take it you are in your mid 30's and so for the young age you have a wealth of skills and knowledge so don't sell yourself too short while being modest . . .
That fixed-width amber-on-black screen is a retro joy to behold. Fallout survivalist vibes aplenty. I wish these CNC videos got more views for you. I find all of this just as fascinating as This Old Tony.
I have been working on equipment for 30 years. The joys of modern machinery is that they don't give out the schematics to just anybody and you have to be factory certified to get the access codes to the hidden menu(s) and when you get sent to a job site they are all slightly different. Now it is so complicated to train a tech you can't find anybody who will stick with it long enough to recoup your money invested in them. New machinery even has quirks and design flaws.
Nice. Anytime we had an issue with our trees the first thing to do was clean the cards. Almost always corrected the problem. Have fun. I really enjoyed running tree mills!
I'm not really sure why. All of the contacts are gold plated and the TTL signals are buffered everywhere. But, it still seems to be a big issue with these Dynapath controls.
Very cool! I got a real nice surface grinder for $75.00. I was told it did not work, but no one could tell me why and nothing appeared to be outwardly wrong. I put power to it and it functioned flawlessly. Go figure?!! Congrats! And all the best! Mike
Very nice, congratulations I guess :) What I always wondered about the machines with the Quill as the z-axis: Is the quill and quill bore a common wear spot? Like bellmouthing the quillbore etc.? Or are they so close fitted and the huge surface area of the quill in the bore support it well enough not to be a problem?
I would say it is a weak point on any machine. The quill is lapped and fitted, but there must be clearance for the sliding surfaces. According to the notes that came with the machine, the quill has previously seized in the bore and had to be repaired about 10 years ago.
Have you looked into some replacement boards? I had a case where Allen-Bradley had a joint operation with an Italian company and then A-B stopped supporting them when A-B came out with there own CNC. Finding parts in America was next to impossible. We had to completely redo the electronics in order to meet production. Not a fun weekend.
Yes. Lots of boards on ebay. Dynapath made the Delta 20 controls for something like 15 years with very few changes. Most parts from a Delta 10 are also compatible.
I worked for a company in Ontario Canada north and they had a CNC press that i had to remove the boards and spray contact cleaner on them. Very damp shop in the winter with cold nights and warming in the day. Normal things for older circuitry. I would up grade to sealed drivers and computer software since i do that type of work any way. The company I worked for was to cheap to have a repair guy come and fix their machine and had me look it over because i worked on there old plasma cutters that where falling apart.
you might search out some Cramolin Electronic Contact Cleaners. and some of their contact enhancers.. my brother used to be chief engineer in several major recording studios. he used Cramolin on stuff to make it far more reliable. the consoles he would work on were from SSL.. and started at $700,000.00, the tape recorders usually Studers 24 tracks.. yes this was analog days started at about 70K and went up to about 150K.. one studio had 7 million dollars worth of audio equipment in 2 rooms and a 3 to 6 month waiting list to get in for a few days. one record company booked the rooms 24/7 for 3 months straight at just over 5 grand a day plus extras..
Congratulations, you're proof positive that you can find a decent deal on a purpose built CNC machine. It would be great to use as-is or a prime candidate for a Centroid CNC All in One DC control upgrade. I've got 2 under my belt now on knee mills documented on my RUclips channel.
Wes Johnson it's not that slow. The problem you'll eventually likely encounter is memory issues. Drip feeding the control is not fun either when running large 3d tool paths.
Possibly. One sold last week for $3750, but was a bit newer than mine. I think I will use it for a bit and sell it if a better one comes along. That's what I usually do.
Wes, I've never been exposed to machinery like this. What exactly will you use it for in your shop? Are you going to be making things or is it useable for doing repairs? Please explain.
many times on auctions they put parts or repair because they don't know if it works (can't test) or just don't want someone saying hey it broke and blame the seller. so just another way of saying you get what you buy maybe a deal maybe junk.
you should have alot more subscribers, i have watched a few of your videos, great content. I honestly didnt know you had a channel but see all your comments on my videos. RUclips recommended one of your videos to me. Every once in a while i will make videos showing other youtubers that I watch that are up and coming, so you will be in my next one. Just keep making the videos, your channel will grow for sure
I remember those, watched them a while ago, you can't always win. Went shopping (auction) today, we'll see soon what is really a bargain and what's junk ... fingers crossed.
search out Cramolin Electronic Contact Cleaners and contact enhancers for your circuit board edge connectors.. read my reply to another here.. as to why..

I just do what I have to do to get these stupid old machines running. Sometimes it works, other times, not so much. Welcome aboard.
👍👌👏 Very well done again and as always (video and work). Great purchase! Congrats! I'm eagerly looking forward to watch the next part.

I know a few things about a few things.
That's awesome. Nice work and nice score! Your fix reminded me of putting in and taking out NES carts to blow on the connector.
Same idea.
That fixed-width amber-on-black screen is a retro joy to behold. Fallout survivalist vibes aplenty. I wish these CNC videos got more views for you. I find all of this just as fascinating as This Old Tony.
Really nice to see the machine running! Great job!

Yup. It just works.
Thumbs up 👍 you did the part and the repair on it.
Sounds like a win on this one!
Agreed!

I've seen that a lot. Someone said it was broken and no one ever bothered to check. They just want a new one.
Go Wes! From one craigslist dumpster diver to another - well played. Knowledge is your currency and business is good.

Nice to get lucky once in a while.
Very nice, congratulations I guess :)

Stefan! 😁
In my shop I was the only one who could run our cnc machine this was in the 90's. I got a lot of overtime. Now with heart problems 20 years later
Great machine's! I have a journeyman 325 and I love it
Wow, 40 character amber monitor. I'd almost forgotten those days existed!
Everything you need to run the machine is right there. No need to over complicate it.
Your skills and know how are impressive. I am a maintenance machinest and you inspire me. Good job☺
Thanks. I've got so much to learn.
As do I.
Can't wait to see it running a part! Pretty sweet deal you have
Agreed. We're pretty close.
Awesome!! Can't wait to see it throw some chips!
And with no enclosure, it will certainly throw them.

Nice Wes, can't wait to see her rockin

I'm just not sure what a retrofit really gains you. Yes, it's a slow and old school control. But, it's a slow and old school machine.
Agreed Wes. If you are familiar with the control and getting your code into it no problem!
Wes Johnson it's not that slow. The problem you'll eventually likely encounter is memory issues. Drip feeding the control is not fun either when running large 3d tool paths.
I hope you put the e-stop back together
Enjoyed Wes!
ATB, Robin
Looks like a nice profit if you sold it now it's working!
Possibly. One sold last week for $3750, but was a bit newer than mine. I think I will use it for a bit and sell it if a better one comes along. That's what I usually do.
Guess I would never know if the resistor change was the last fix and actual CNC status.
Good call, nice save.
Here come the aluminum christmas tree ornaments! Everyone Wes knows gets their own CNC'd snowman...
Don't tell my wife I can do that...
Nice Wes. Hope everything else goes well. It just needed someone with mad skills to give a little TLC.
There is still a very good chance there are other problems with it. But, for now, it seems like a good deal.
N-I-N-T-E-N-D-O! Same scenario that used to clean games, just the adult version.
It's just the industrial version.
Nice I hope it works well for you . I know manual machines and kind of lost on this stuff Thanks
These machines are dead simple. I'll go through setting it up to run a job when I get the kinks ironed out.
I wonder how good it is for electrical equipment to live in an uninsulated shed. The relative humidity must get really high there at times.
Fantastic score !!!
So far it looks that way.
Wes, I've never been exposed to machinery like this. What exactly will you use it for in your shop? Are you going to be making things or is it useable for doing repairs? Please explain.
I used it for making fixtures and tools.
@@WatchWesWork Can you elaborate at all? That doesn't really tell me much. Of course, I'm old. But you already knew that.
Love when this happens, this makes up for the fork lift!
Yes. I frequently stick my neck out and a lot of time I get a nasty bite. But, sometimes it works out OK.
Score! That is awesome!!
Dynapath CNC. Strong hardware
This would be a great machine to upgrade to Centroid Acorn!
Look forward to seeing the chips fly.
Me too!
the guys at FanucWorld told me to clean the contacts with alcohol and a tooth brush. sure as shit it got my machine back up and running.
Do you still have this cnc mill?
many times on auctions they put parts or repair because they don't know if it works (can't test) or just don't want someone saying hey it broke and blame the seller. so just another way of saying you get what you buy maybe a deal maybe junk.
I suspect that is what happened here. They just wanted it out the door.
How is the Tree doing Wes?
I am possibly going to be buying a cheap tree this weekend. I don't know of in getting it for a steal or not at 500$
man that's awesome!
Hey Gary. Nice to see you hanging around my little channel.
you should have alot more subscribers, i have watched a few of your videos, great content. I honestly didnt know you had a channel but see all your comments on my videos. Nice Score!
Winner winner chicken diner
2:10 Press F to pay resp... wait a minute!
Have you been using this for actual parts? How long did the fuzzy nostalgia last?
Not really. It makes a nice shelf...
How much memory on this thing? Is there a way of getting data into to easily via RS232 or something?
I'm not sure, but very little. Yes, it has RS232 and can drip feed.
For parts or not working so that the buyer can't claim it was advertised as working if they don't know what they're doing and break it.
I'm so fucking jealous!!!!
Sweet
Well done,...isn't it a great feeling when the low $$ bargain comes back to live ?
Well, it's much better than the opposite feeling. See the forklift videos...
I remember those, watched them a while ago, you can't always win. Went shopping (auction) today, we'll see soon what is really a bargain and what's junk ... fingers crossed.
Thumbs UP !!
Only 100$ ! You are luky man :-)
I was this time.
sweet somebody has to get lucky once in a while
I have plenty of bad luck. It's nice to get a small victory.
i havent clicked on something faster! YAY
Heh. Pretty uneventful really.
search out Cramolin Electronic Contact Cleaners and contact enhancers for your circuit board edge connectors.. read my reply to another here.. as to why..
Awesome!
CONCURRENY - its the money inmates smuggle into jail in their bum-bum, then used to buy machining mags.
LOL. I have no idea what it actually is. The manual says nothing about it.
