    I do like these Triumph 400s they make perfect sense for me. I'm getting to an age where I don't want big heavy bikes and want something a lot more manageable to push around. My ideal bike combo at the moment would be a Triumph Scrambler 400 and a Suzuki 8R. I haven't tried the Guerilla yet, but have ridden the Himalayan which I found a little top heavy.

    • @ianhughesroyalenfield
      @ianhughesroyalenfield 3 месяца назад +2

      Where the Himi is top heavy, the Guerrilla is so much better. Yes it is still weighty, but lighter than the Classic 350, and you really don’t feel the weight on the Guerrilla.

    • @AliasMrHackenbacker
      @AliasMrHackenbacker 3 месяца назад +1

      @ianhughesroyalenfield Thanks for your comment, I have seen the guerrilla in the flesh and was impressed with its build. I'll see if Roger lets me out on his demo bike. I'm still loving my classic 350, but there are times when I wish for something with just a little more go. The classic for me is a keeper, and if I can afford to, I would like to add another bike with a little more power but without a weight penalty.

    Strange that very little is heard, or seen about the Yamaha MT-03. I appreciate it is a different style of bike, but for an older person like myself (87) who as been riding sports bikes, but now wants a lighter bike with similar peg placement, I can highly recommend the little MT-03. I purchased a new one in 2021, and they are a cracking little bike!

    • @user-rf9me7xm1w
      @user-rf9me7xm1w 3 месяца назад +2

      I downsized to an mt 03 and couldn't be happier. It's an amazing bike to ride due to it's light weight and seat height. With 42 bhp on tap it's great fun to ride, I can keep up with my friends who have bikes with twice the engine size. Why pay for the extra power you never use on today's roads ? Smaller bikes make much more sense in term of mpg, road tax and insurance premiums. At the present time mine's showing 102.2 mpg The only bike I'd swap it for is an R3. In addition, the MT has been tried and tested over many years and has proved to be extremely reliable. I've ridden mine through three winters and haven't noticed any signs of deterioration. It'll be interesting to see if the Triumph ages as well.

    A nice little revisit to this new modern classic, I had the scrambler 400 X in mind as my son's next bike but now he's of an age where he could go for any of the A2 compliant machines. I had a marvellously happy test ride on the BMW R1250R today and it was a lovely dry sunny day to boot 👍😊 The salesman set the ES to Auto and rider mode to Road to start with, just leaving the forecourt the front end seemed all out of shape. I figured the suspension was too soft and wallowy so I changed to Dynamic mode, that firmed it up a treat and the bike behaved impeccably.
    The engines got lots of grunt with the new shift cam design, rider comfort is pretty good and it handles well once you tweak the suspension. Of coarse you're exposed to the wind but it's clean air, I'll look into screens, the stock can doesn't sound too bad either. I feel less bad about getting shot of the ZZR now ( the Kawasaki dealer is buying it back), the BMW is a little more sophisticated and it put a huge grin on my face 😁 Thanks again for plugging both bikes for me 👍😊⭐

    I think that the speed 400 would taste like half a Mr Kipling's cake . Your excellent video makes for a good comparison with Ian's Guerilla riding video and both bikes are clearly a lot of fun. I think that I would lean towards the Guerilla, which I think sounded better. I would also take the Triumph 400 Scrambler over the Speed 400 as it is a little bit bigger and I prefer the looks. My mate, in his 60s - same height as you bought one in April and took it to France with us. You know how we are dead enthusiastic about a bike until you are NOT - like I was with the speed limited Meteor? Well his main complaint was it is undefeated. No need to use first gear at all and revving the guts out of it when doing 70ish. You got it right when you said it’s like the old Tiger Cub! He wanted to re-sprocket it but no after market parts available. Think he was just disappointed.

    It was interesting that "Nathan The Postman" thought the engine in the 400x was a peach and the best of the latest mid size motors including the RE 450 one. When I saw the 400's I thought they looked better finished by far than the competition ... strangely though despite loving the Speed Twin look in the 900/1200 's I was a tad underwhelmed Triumph didn't give the 400's a look of their own but instead played it safe and created a mini Bonneville clone. They were right though as the sales numbers of 50,000 + prove !

    Hey Mr Thame, I'm interested to know how you consider the suspension to perform in comparison to your T100, of which I also own. Especially along that B Road to TC's. I find the T100 suspension very agricultural on kentish B roads.

    • @TAYM
      @TAYM  3 месяца назад

      Thanks Tim 😁 I found the bike held its line on bends even when the road was bumpy. I do find suspension fascinating. Firstly there is the comfort factor and a nice smooth ride and then there is the handling side and whether bumps disrupt the bike. The two can often be misleading and some bikes (I am thinking of the Street Triple RS) are fantastic on bumpy back roads even when set up firm. I think the 400 is ok, but it doesn’t weigh much. The T100 could benefit from some better suspension but again, for me, it’s ok. Sorry, I seem to have just waffled and confused myself 😂😂😂
