A website coming too? All kinds of announcements lately! When I opened this video this afternoon, I was thinking about how glad I was that I came across your channel. I'd say I agree with a sizeable majority of what you say, but even when I don't, I've never felt that you could be accused of being unreasonable, because there's always a genuine thought process behind your opinions, which is very important. It was funny then when you started talking about the biases of sources and how that has to be taken into consideration, because while, as you've said plenty of times before, everyone has biases. The feeling that you give that you try to get past those to find the truth as much as possible, whether it's comfortable or not, is something I greatly value. The fact that it seems that a lot of people who feel the same have congregated here is even better. The internet is such a cesspool in so many ways that it's nice to come along and find a likeminded host and community -- not that we always agree, but that we're likeminded in wanting to learn as much truth as possible. Thanks for facilitating that for us!
Can't wait for the website!! I'm listening to A World Undone on Audible right now and its amazing. I've watched through the Great War once a year since it came out in 2014. In my opinion, its some of the best content on the internet and its how I found your channel.
Very interesting. My grandfather was an infantryman in the battle, though I don't know his unit. He returned from the war to be a high school teacher and athletic coach in Webster Groves, MO, later serving as a naval officer in WWII.
The Great War is not just the best RUclips channel about the great war, it is probably the best non-scholastic resource about the Great War to ever exist, period. Same with the World War 2 channel. Literally thousands of hours of well-researched, well-presented content that covers everything from the battles to the uniforms to the generals to the guns to... well, everything.
Amazing job! You really add to the video and fill in a lot of blanks that I didn’t even know were there! Keep up the great work I can see your passion with the topic and that really adds to your videos
I share your fascination with the Great War, so your excellent additions and context are an absolute boon to me. Thank you for your work. I'm a longtime subscriber but rare commenter (I know, sorry), but I just wanted to say thank you
Just a random tidbit I wanted to mention - the Lost Batallion and Cher Ami are also referenced in an episode of the TV series, White Collar (which is a really good series, by the way).
About seeing historic sites in person, two years ago I was in Greece and drove the road from Marathon to Athens. While Marathon Runs get the distance right, they never seem to replicate the pretty considerably mountain ridge you have to pass over.
I’m disappointed TGW managed to do specials about American heroes in WW1 and unknowns in all armies but not Albert Roche, the “first soldier of France”, who won the most medals of the war.
On the point of supply chains dictating wartime strength, "all roads lead to Rome" for a reason, and it's an easy argument to make that the Roman Empire was as large and strong as it was because of it's engineering and infrastructure.
Thank you for the book recommendations. Would you have any books to recommend on the topic of the 30 Years War (1618-1648) or Friedrich the Great? Recently I've been interested in that period very much
Hi just want to say that I love your context and thank you for your insight. Can I ask what the story is with these football shirts? I’ve seen Ipswich and West Brom. I’m actually not to far from West Brom, In the Black Country. 🙌🏻
I'll definitely love see your reactions towards some of their content under Jesse Alexander. They've even made a week-by-week series on the Franco-Prussian War!
Could you check out bluejay’s video called “the dumbest Russian voyage nobody talks about”? It’s an amateur video, with humor on the immature end, but not too bad. I liked it, and am 17
With half the stuff mentioned here I hear Sabaton in the back of mind. Wouldn't be getting better the more familiar I will become with the new album I guess :P
I wonder why it is most of the time people think it's going to be a quick War whenever War breaks out😂 I mean history has shown us that is not case you may get lucky an it be like 2 years if you fighting a shitty amry but i never understood why people think war will be fast. It never is fast really.
The Germans were the primary millitarily power in the world from 1871- 1945 it is only the combined might of the USA, the UK, the French, the Soviet union, and numerous other countries that the might of German millitarily dominance could be beaten.
First this shows how important alliances were (something Wilhelm II didn't unterstand and Bismarck rightly feared) and secondly your statement isn't true for WW2. The nazis didn't switch enough of the civilian industry to military industry because they feared shortages at home. Therefore SU produced more tanks and machines than the nazis and UK had more planes and bombers. The economical power and therefore the military supplies of USA alone was nuts.
@@boy_becauseofyou if Germany in 1939 had to fight any 1 single country in the world even the soviet union, no country could've beaten Germany in a 1 v 1 war
You're missing a key word there. "Land". Germany was certainly a dominant military land power on the European continent. But at sea? Not so much. Britannia ruled the waves, joined later by the US, with Germany and then Japan trying and failing to break that stranglehold of sea power. As a result, the Allies had access to the resources of the rest of the world and could place Germany under blockade during both world wars. Arguably it was that crushing blockade that brought Germany to its knees and made it beatable on land both times.
Hate to say it, but I'm actually a little dissappointed by this video. As a non-American I know next to nothing about the Meuse-Argonne offensive as it was, as you rightly pointed out, just a tiny piece of the much larger Allied offensive going on at this time. So if you're not being taught the American narrative of the war, it barely registers. This battle is a footnote. Started this video hoping to learn more about it. Especially given the title. But having finished it I still feel like I know next to nothing about it. This video seems to have been made assuming that people already know all the facts, figures and details of the battle and are looking for greater insight. Now that's a perfectly reasonable approach to take for a really big and well known battle like Gettysburg. But when talking about a footnote battle a greater explanation of it was what I was looking for and did not find here.
I really enjoyed following The Great War on a weekly basis 100 years after, back in 2014...
Then you will love following WWIII in real time.

Loved the full 2 hour video put up . Gotta love the Great War Channel👍
Really loving the WWI content, not enough people talk about it! Which is crazy, because of how impactfull it was. So great job!
dont know if you already did but a video on the harlem hellfighters would be amazing!
It’s coming.
great video as always! Will you make reactions on the new Sabaton album? They have some great ones
Definitely. Loving the new album
@@VloggingThroughHistory hopefully you saw Elizabeth do her interview today with the Sabaton keyboard player. 🙂
Looking forward to the website!
Love your vids!!!
And also the fact you wore a West Brom shirt!!
Amazing job!

My great great uncle was killed in this offensive and is buried in the cemetery over there. Walter Conrad was his name

Until today I had never heard of Alvin York. Thanks for another great video.
Full video coming in him in a week or two. Amazing story.
Damn, Sgt. York is one of my favorite movies.
Just a random tidbit I wanted to mention - the Lost Batallion and Cher Ami are also referenced in an episode of the TV series, White Collar (which is a really good series, by the way).
Great vid
I agree that A World Undone is the best one-volume WW1 book. Great video, as always.
The fact that I really like you Chris even though I am a wolves fan is big
That is big!
He's pretty ok for a Buckeye ain't he? Lol
Historians don't speak enough about this battle . Also can you do a video on the Battle of the Hurtgren Forest WW2
I love the Great War Channel. Got me into World War 1 in the first place
Love your vids from the netherlands

This is where Kaiserreich would begin. Great Video
I’m disappointed TGW managed to do specials about American heroes in WW1 and unknowns in all armies but not Albert Roche, the “first soldier of France”, who won the most medals of the war.
I want to hear that story for another day, shed some light on poc serving in ww1!
My grandfather fought in the battle of the argonne forest
Nice west brom shirt
Love the West Brom shirt!
Weelllllcome back everyone

My Great Grandfather was hit with Mustard Gas in WWI and had to live with the health effects of the burns after the war.
I like how our man Indy has a Kukri as a decoration on his desk.

Love the Albion shirt, even if we suck right now 😂
When do you plan to do another video of historia civillis on Caesar?
I'll definitely love see your reactions towards some of their content under Jesse Alexander. They've even made a week-by-week series on the Franco-Prussian War!
Yea, their newer content on both TGW and on the Real Time History channels continues to be top notch even 8 years later.
Without a doubt, their content on the Russo-Japanese War and coverage in the interwar years are unmatched.
Indy is great. I'm currently watching him and Spartacus doing WWII day by day

Please do the coal mine wars of West Virginia The Great War has an amazing video about it.
you believe the guy who shot down the red baron was Australian, right? i thought i remember hearing you talk about that in your on site video
Yeah. I’m sure it was him.
Even as an Aussie, I never learnt that one of us shot him down. Always gonna be proud of that lmao
@@LtGhost-tb3kqit do be like that sometimes lmfao 😂😂
In WW2 a complete German Division had about >~20.000 Soldiers and around 500 Tanks.
How do you feel about Steve Bruce? I think he might be the least inspiring manager the Baggies could have hired!😅
I never wanted them to dump Slav.
I agree! The owner is absolutely clueless. Only in it for the money and has zero love for the club.
Great video
West Bromwich Albion Jersey. As a Chelsea fan I’m gonna have to say Ew.
Love the videos man keep it up 😂💪
Good video
Wat is the reason behind supporting West Brom. Just curious?
When I was deciding on a team to support, I went with the teams closest to where my family came from. West Brom in England and Rangers in Scotland.
Tactics win battles, logistics win wars.
i luv ur vids
Nothing like us Americans carrying our terrible traffic to the rest of the world 😂😂😂

@@VloggingThroughHistory heard it about 5 times now. It's an amazing album🤘
Baggies shirt 😳😅
Foch was no Ike, but he was right about the treaty resulting in Germany rising up again and coming after France again .
Didn't know you were a fan of West Bromwich Albion haha
Think I might have to unsubscribe after that WBA shirt Chris! I’m a massive Wolves fan 🤦♂️😬😂
Well, take solace in the fact that West Brom is terrible right now and I'm more of a Rangers fan these days.
@@VloggingThroughHistory always liked Rangers good man!
Why did British and Americans have the same helmets in WW1?
