I think you made the right decision choosing to live in seattle! The apartment is beautiful, especially the view and you still get the experience of living in the city! It's cheaper and I'm sure the apartment is much bigger lol

I hope Shelby gets to design everything, I love them both but I feel like Shelby always ends up stuck doing all the hard work while Monica gets to do the fun part, shopping and decorating.

They're paying 50/50 but shelby has to actually live there and monica is just using a room as an office. That would irritate me
FYI, the Target Performance brand sheets are awesome. They have elastic fitted corners and are pretty heavy duty for the price. Around $59 for a King set and I’ve never had them rip or fade.
I got used to my corner unit view after 5-6 weeks and then it becomes 'normal'. Blackout shades....there can actually be way too much light in the summer bc the sun rises early and sets later. It is good if you need to be up early but bad if you really want to sleep in till 9 or 10. Wind... In the winter it can get real loud when there are 50 mph winds going on at night. Fortunately, it happens about 5-6 nights/year.
Love the new place! And I agree, I don't think I could ever spend that amount on just rent in New York 😂

I support your decision! I lived in NYC for nearly 40 years, until late 2020. It is a very difficult city to live in, but I thought I would be there until I die. The pandemic brought me to the conclusion that dense, high-rise living is no longer for me!

Love the place Monica showed you and you’d NEVER find anything like that in Manhattan in your price range and the other reason for the lease in Washington - is NO state income tax! New York never offers it and only handful of other states don’t have a state income tax. We’re now entering a depression and for most people saving as much money as possible is a priority these days.
The apartment is beautiful Shelby. How will you and Monica share it? I.e. when does it stop being her office and become your home? Just curious as to how you’re working it out! Enjoy your new home ☺️
their lease is only for one year so I imagine they will both move out when the lease is up haha

For what it’s worth I think you made a wise choice… not only is this apartment gorgeous, but also it’s really nice getting to see Seattle through your eyes. That’s one of the things that I enjoy about Monica’s videos too… that they are in Seattle :)

Although Monica spoiled the reveal first, very exciting and congrats Shelby on the move!! Truly a perfect apartment with incredible views. I totally agree about the using money as best as possible, so for the amount of your share for the rent, this was definitely the best option. And like you said, if you miss the sun you can fly out to California/Palm Springs to get that sun recharge as well as make trips to NY when needed. So excited and happy for you!

I would never pay $$4,000-5,000 a month for a random 1 bedroom apartment, that isn't even that nice, to live in New York.

I am moving from Vancouver to Seattle and I get what you mean by it is the best here in the summer. Vancouver summers are so magical. I just hate we endure 9 months of rain for it

The Wild West is the very best. I’ve lived on the Puget sound and once I got a nice raincoat I was loving life. Salmon and dark coffee plus snowboarding and sea kayaking. No mosquitoes. The Olympics right there and a quick ferry to the orcas and one to BC and Alaska. Loving life

Great choice with Seattle! Have you every thought about Vancouver, WA? Zero income tax from WA and you can drive to Oregon to shop with 0% sales tax. Also you would be a reasonable drive to Seattle. Also what about Vegas, Nevada next? (decent drive to L.A.) and zero income tax in nevada. Less rainy weather too.
From a New Yorker, yes it's expensive to live here but it's worth it.
Most people live out in the Burroughs where it's not as expensive, way more affordable and still close to Subways and public transportation to get anywhere anytime.
It's also the 25th safest city in the entire world. Yes crime has spiked recently but it's nothing like the 70's or 80's. Pittsburgh crime is higher per capita than NYC. NYC is a very safe city. That said...I would still pick the condo in Seattle over NYC and I lived in NYC for 5 years and I loved it.
@@suelyons531 yeah but NYC and LA always get RUclipsrs who complain about crime but ignore that it’s better than it used to be. Crime is a ridiculous reason to avoid it since it’s never as bad as people think and if you have common sense you’ll be fine, I really think for her it sounds more monetary than anything.
Can’t get over the dreary cold weather and mice/rats. It’s been over 20 years since I’ve been last and I vividly remember seeing mice everywhere. No way in hell I’d pay 5k a month to live in a tiny apartment and be plagued by pests. Food and entertainment is great but I’d rather be in comfort and keep my money. There’s a reason my beach town here in North Carolina is almost 60-70 percent of Northern transplants escaping.
Agreed, NYC is so worth it.
I'm in a large studio in Greenwich Village and I could rent a house somewhere for this price.
I don't want to live in a house, I want to be in Greenwich Village!

We’re the same age and I just relocated from California to the east coast! I was really nervous about making friends because it’s so much harder as you get older but pro tip - take cow to the dog park!! You’ll find people who are interested in the same things as you and chances are they’ll be super close by too 😂 I like it because at 7am in pjs no one cares what you do for work - they’re all just looking for good vibes :)

It's really cool to hear you mention SC. It's my home state. I'm from Columbia though. No real desire to go back but if we did I wouldn't mind the Greenville/Spartanburg area or Charleston area.
I have lived in Seattle’s summer for 4 times. Summer in Seattle is the best compared to many places I have been in the world. Thanks for sharing Shelby, enjoy the best summer of your life.
California is the best place “to live”. Seattle is the best to “live in the summer”. Oh I miss Seattle so much!

I definitely think New York’s weather is really beautiful. The winter is pretty harsh. But overall, fall, spring and summer is gorgeous

I'm not a huge fan of white furniture, probably because I'm accident prone and would spill food! But also you can use some colourful cushions or something on the couch to warm it up a bit

Only 27 and making fun but solid financial decisions. The world we live in makes home anywhere you want it and so many ways to make money.
Trust me, getting distracted looking at boats all day is a real thing. I spent 5 years of my life getting paid to stare out a window and not crash into other boats. :) Also, I just stayed in a downtown seattle hotel with a similar view as your apartment and it was absolutely insane.

You might wanna check with the building if you can host a little neighborly wine tasting on the rooftop. I did this before .... you just invite all the residents to bring one bottle of wine and everyone shares their favorite wine with each other and you can make friends with all the other residents.

I was born and raised in NYC/Brooklyn decades ago --- it's NOT the same place. You made the right decision to move to Seattle --- lower rents, restaurants that are actually "open" -- less crime and graffiti -- and SAFETY!!!!! As they said 50 years ago - """New York is a Great Place to Visit." Enjoyed this video - I like seeing new purchases for ur apt.

NYC rent for a decent apartment is def crazy (even for New York standards and even if you're a millionaire) and you have to lower your standards so much that's it's not worth it post pandemic IMO. And that's from a former die hard NYer who thought I'd live there forever but finally left after 6 years left since it is incredibly expensive and diffuclt to live there. Still love to visit but it was not a financially wise choice to stay there after my carefree 20's.
The bed and couch from Article look great! Must've been a lot of work to get them out of the box though.

Congrats on your new apartment, Shelby! It's absolutely gorgeous. I think you made the right call in choosing Seattle. $5k a month for rent is ridiculous, IMO. Much better to pay less, have a better lifestyle and then travel.
