Whoah... A Rammstein Young again. Absolutely incredible to see. I feel so old. I'm living to see everything I held on to in my life slowly pass away. I'm grateful for what I knew. Life is short, tragic and beautiful!
I just realized Flake's keyboard rig is basically a sampler. He's triggering sounds from the box he has next to him. Very similar to how the prodigy and crystal method performed live as well.
Precisely! I spent many years when I was younger studying Flake's equipment and way of working with sound, and it is incredibly similar to how The Prodigy's Liam Howlett works. Lots of synths, ghastly 80s/90s "tone generators" and sample packs in the studio, but all loaded onto a sampler live. He very specifically used the Ensoniq ASR-10, both in keyboard and and rack form (as used here with a MIDI controller). I owned 4 ASR-10s at one point to ensure I had a lifetime supply of spares when I started relying on it for my own music, they're absolute incredible samplers, and I can totally undrstand why Flake insissted on using them right up until the end of the LIFAD era (despite them frequently breaking down... the ASR-10 came out in 1994, and they quite literally kick out enough heat to warm a room up, not good for the internals long term!). The ASR-10 has a distortion effect that could be considered Flake's signature "solo" sound, as heard on Das Alte Leid, Wo Bist Du, Ich Tu Dir Weh, Weidmans Heil, Fruhling In Paris, and in my opinion the best of all, Hallomann... that solo is absolute terrifying. Only the ASR-10 (or perhaps an Ensoniq DP effects unit used carefully) can get that sound, and finding the exact sound Flake used for the Fruhling solo was absolutely mind-blowing. There's a couple of videos of the "Flake solo" on my channel if you're interested, along with some odd bits like presets he used (the Du Hast choir is pretty neat, that was from a 90s a sample CD for the ASR). The samples and stuff are mildly interesting, but his solo is something that took an insane amount of work to find and reverse engineer. Very few people are interested, it's a real tiny hardcore group of Rammstein sample hunters who I've worked with! That said, nerding out over Flake's keyboards led to me becoming a musician, after I came to the natural conclusion that if I love Rammstein that much, it'd be awesome to write my own music inspired by them (along with bands like The Prodigy, Muse, Ministry, Static X). But yeah, Flake is criminally under-rated in terms of importance to Rammstein standing above basically any other band close to them.
There's also an AKAI S-something there, I'm not familiar enough with them to know which one though. The ASR-10R is above it, too black to see in the lighting.

My my, 25 years and they are still amazing!

17:05 man having his time of life
Thanks for this performance guys, one of my all time favs 🙏🔥
Am i the only one who watching this sh+t every day ❤️😍😘😂🙏
I was there on this festival in Cologne/Germany (I think? pretty long time ago :D) but on the „wrong“ day. I came up for NOFX and they played on saturday, Rammstein on sunday, asfaik. Never heard from this guys before. A couple of days later, a friend of mine, listen to HERZELEID in his car. I was blown away...first class Drop-D Riff-Rock-Style, pretty simple, not easy, but f**** powerful, like AC/DC. You only need about three seconds from a song and you know which band is rocking. Thats a trademark, I think :)
The concert in Berlin 1998 was one of the greatest moments in my life! Also the big event in Berne, Switzerland in 2019, holy s****!
Thx for sharing this vid RammWiki!
Till Lindemaa looks like a playboy here.
30:34 Good to see Richard never lost that dance lol
They were so young then! 😍
They need to start bringing some of these songs in the setlist again. I hope they'll do a 30th anniversary tour next year and play the entire album.
i have this album, my brother bought it in a local flea market in chimalhuacan, mexico
How sad that we were not able to attend some of the events.
oh my god they are babies! so much silver spray paint went into those clothes
Bez foneri laja kak i shas
