Really hope the NFA gets the chop, and maybe all these new gun owners will help with that. Also, hope to see ALL semi autos, magazines, suppressor, and everything else being protectedby the U.S. Constitution(SCOTUS).

I'm 65 and have seen a lot of up and down changes regarding guns and gun control. I was also in the gun retail business for 10 years and gun wholesale for 14 yrs. I can tell you this...right now, anti-gun legislators are chomping at the bit hoping this crisis will end in Marshall Law, gun stores shut down, and confiscation of guns from anyone who has contracted the virus or been exposed to it. Right now the American people are not pushing back on the current restrictions surrounding this virus. The anti-gun folks are paying attention to that fact. If this gets worse, anti-gunners are going to start squeaking and demanding to be greased. But actually my main worry is that other countries....some rogue...some well established like China and Russia, will take advantage of our internal focus and use this time to do things like...invade Taiwan(China)...move into Latvia, Estonia, Lithuania, and maybe even Poland (Russia)....taking over Iraq(Iran)....etc. etc. Of course that all may be paranoid thinking on my part...or it may just be the realist coming out in me. If other countries DO ACT OUT.......then that will unfortunately be good for American gun owner....because people will worry about us being on the receiving end of those countries ill advised moves.

A better point would be more trained, educated gun owners. When the CoVid19 outbreak passes, 1000s of used guns or weapons will flood gun shops, pawn stores. 💲💲💲. I push serious gun owners to see Handgunlaw.us or even better, get a law plan like CCWsafe.com . To have a lawyer or legal support after a lethal force event is vital. The DAs or prosecutors do NOT care about you or your well being. They want convictions or PR, media headlines. A group like CCW Safe in 2020 is a great idea.

@Socialist Survivalist actually I think if some of the personal accountability lessons people are learning the hard way right now are taken to heart I think we may actually come out better for it.
most of the problems the last 3 decades or so came about as a result of a majority willing to sacrifice a liberty/right for some security/free stuff, and that has driven the voting hard left for a while, and now alot of people are outraged at how the liberals and democrats are so blatantly still playing political chess while the world is crashing. I know a few personally whose opinions are drifting more and more conservative every passing week of this shit storm.
Maybe its too little, too late, but I am optimistic that though 2020 as a whole is gonna suck, there is a possibility it could be a turning point that our society needs.

Your point about the different times and opinions about guns is valid. I grew up in the 60's & 70's. My father had guns in every room of the house, all loaded as well. My sisters and I had no fear of them, they were as normal to us as the silverware we used to eat with. There was never a temptation to "play" with them. We knew Dad would include us when he went to the range to shoot, it was great family fun. Later in school I took a gun safety and hunting class. I brought my .22 rifle and ammo to school, beyond that nearly every one with a pickup truck had a gun rack with at least one rifle and a shotgun at school in the student parking lot. Nobody thought anything of it. To a large degree those activities and opinions have been replaced by the computer and cellphone generation, to much information flooding in, instantly from all over the country any time a person chooses to use the firearm for crime. The knee jerk reaction is blame the firearm. I'm glad to see people waking up, realizing the "government" can't keep us safe, they show up after the crime with yellow crime scene tape, chalk and doughnuts. I'm hoping the new gun owners educate themselves on what they've purchased, get some practice, and when the time is right seek out some training, and stay involved.

Unfortunately in this country we have lost "Unity" it seems like everyone's out for themselves or there own cause. I'm an extreme proponent for being able to protect MY Family, I just don't understand why ANYONE wouldn't be. Anyone anti-gun is not able to protect there family or themselves. It takes 10-15 SECONDS for a perpetrator to get to a bedroom, it takes to police 10-15 MINUTES to get to your house. So basically, there coming to do a body count. All we can do is keep up the fight and educate as many people as we can and definitely stand up to the politicians who are trying to take away our Constitutional Rights!

I believe we will always have people at both sides of the fence. Having more laws that will prevent bad people or mentally unstable people from owning guns is great, but those gun laws shouldn't be on the expense of our freedom and the 2nd A. Everything should be within reason, at the end we are still living in a free country.

I don't believe a felon should be strip of his right to own a gun or mentally ill person strip of his right even when he gets better after a year or two! I am against those type of laws, but reasonable measures to prevent tragedies that will not effect our freedom are acceptable. There is a big different between a right and a privilege. Zaid-More laws aren’t doing any good. Politicians are allowing criminals all over this country to plea bargain their felony gun crimes down to misdemeanors. Politicians are allowing criminals all over this country to serve only a fraction of their sentences behind bars before they are released back onto the streets of America to prey on more innocent victims. The catch and release criminal justice system feeds off of money. These violent repeat criminals are being released from jail so that they can commit more crimes. More crimes equal more money for the catch and release criminal justice system. This is being done on purpose.

Wow! Outstanding whole picture understanding of the topic. You closely described my own life experiences with firearms. I've owned guns since 1986 when I was 19. Before that I couldn't even get a BB gun for Christmas and I knew nothing of BB guns or real firearms. A discharged Airborne Ranger was a friend at the time and he gave me my first encounter with various firearms. He taught me how to handle firearms safely and with respect. Oddly enough I've never owned an AR 15 in my life until today (April 2020), I purchased my first one. I've always found them overwhelming when I go to buy one at my local GS and have previously stopped myself before purchase. This time I "pulled the trigger". I'm quite happy. I can't wait till it comes in and I can pick it up. It was from an in-house AR builder local to my state, Washington, so is guaranteed to be in stock. It's hard to come by AR platforms in my area right now; in addition to buy semi-automatic long guns in Washington state because of 1639 individuals have to be certified. Thankfully it's an easy process online that's free. Please stay safe!

Big thumbs up and sure hope to see a change in the debate.
I grew up in a household that believed in religious pacifism. So guns were a big no no, unless their sole purpose was for hunting. At 18 I moved out and purchased a .22 for target shooting and bought a rifle for hunting and shotgun for trap shooting. But I still held on to my generally pacifist beliefs. I wasn't really anti-gun but didn't really see the need for the public to own guns like the AR 15 or even semi auto pistols as they offer limited use for hunting. As I got older my pacifism began wane and I became more concerned with the ability to protect my family. So I began to have a greater appreciation for firearms that could be used for self defense. However I was still not a big defender of the 2nd Amendment. What really open my eyes was the LA riots and later the City of Stockton, California's bankruptcy, where the police force was cut in half and criminals began to rule the streets for over a year. From that point on I was solidly on the pro-gun 2nd Amendment side. I hope that the current circumstances will open peoples eyes to how little the government can, will and desires to protect individual citizens and how important it is for us as individuals to prepare, protect, and defend our family, friends and community. I hope we will as a society quit giving away our rights, be a little more prepared for next time and come together now to help each other. A little extra TP a fuller pantry, and owning a firearm just make sense in the world we live in today and always did. The Boy Scout motto of be prepared is worth remembering.

I have a vivid memory of the '50's and '60's. Generally speaking, guns were not a national issue throughout the '50's and the early '60's. In the west they were hardly any issue at all. President Kennedy, unlike his brothers, was a member of the National Rifle Association. After his death, there was some agitation to tighten gun laws, especially mail order sales. Also there was the occasional anti-gun propaganda hit piece in the Reader's Digest. In '68 the entire situation changed with the assassinations of Robert Kennedy and Martin Luther King. The BS became intense. It was piled high and wide, and did it ever stink with falsehood and powerful misplaced emotion. Left wing whackos were talking about banning all handguns, registering all guns, registering all gun owners, etc. It was scary, and I was scared.
Looking back on it, I see a silver lining around the dark clouds of left-wing fascist nanny state tyranny. I joined the NRA in '72 and have been a member ever since. The NRA went from being essentially a gentlemen's hobby association to being the political powerhouse of freedom that it became by the end of the sixties. I saw a lot of really bad leftwing fascist tyrants voted out of office or defeated for election in the first place due to their being wrong on the gun issue. It started with Hubert Humphrey although he had an even bigger issue about his previous involvement with "the war." Surely AlGore would have become President in 2000 had he not been rabidly anti-gun. Kerry was defeated four years later for the same cause. In '94 after the passage of Bunco Billy's gun ban, the Demo'rat scum became minorities in both US House and Senate. Much would have been accomplished were it not for the RINO Republican traitors.

I grew up in a rural area and just about every man over forty either fought the nazis or japan but I don’t think that was the reason every family owned gun, I think it was because guns was a necessary tool used on the farm and had been for as long as anyone could remember. Whether putting meat on the table or protecting the farm against Indian raid or bandits those guns did what a strongly worded letter could never do. That being said: before W.W. 2 America was mostly agrarian and people started moving to fast growing urban centers leaving behind the whole farm culture. I think the big paradigm shift now is in the reason formerly anti-gun people are buying guns. They’re not buying them for the same reason our forefathers did but rather solely for protection. I believe the second amendment will get a new breath of enthusiastic support after this but barring another rude awakening, I.e. When liberals learn that the world is not all rainbows and unicorns. I believe the generations that follow will again forget what a useful tool a good firearm is and attempt to relegate them to the outdated scrap heap of farm equipment like the harrow, husking knife and manure spreader.

I was never anti-gun, but I was not a gun owner in my early adult life. When I was about 30, I was reading an American Rifleman magazine, and realized that I had a right to keep and bear arms that I was not exercising, and decided that I need to exercise it. I believe that if we do not exercise our rights, then we could lose them. My first firearm was a Winchester 94, because it was something I wanted. Now I own many firearms, a few handguns, and several rifles. The rifles range from lever guns to bolt actions, and semi-automatics. The oldest firearm is from 1947, and the youngest is from the last couple of years.

You're right, one of the problems is we have had it too good for too long... ecpecially those 30 and under. My children are succesful, but I often wonder, if I wasn't too easy on them.... Man does not seem to learn, without some pain or discomfort involved, if its too easy, it doesn't seem to stick. Believe me, growing up in the 60s, was nothing like the issues today.

I grew up in PA and my parents had always been die hard republicans but were very anti gun my whole life, we moved to Georgia about 10 years ago and I had taken an interest in guns and still knew they were very uneasy about guns but one day i said screw it and bought one and brought it home to show them, they certainly weren’t happy about it but they at least understood and it really didn’t take long for me to educate them about every aspect about gun ownership, mainly the political and freedom aspect of it, and within no time they fully invested themselves into the gun argument and now about everyone in the house is a responsible gun owner and it’s become everyone’s nearly number one priority when it comes to politics.

Hypocrisy and Dems go hand in hand. Good vid.My ex caught a lot of crap because we were/are pro gun, then 911 happened and those same people said they would come to our house if things got worse because we had guns. I told them " No , remember , we are part of the problem". Then when things calmed down they went right back to their anti gun BS.

  • @hobofactory

A lot of good points in this video (and I had largely the same experience as you in regards to my attitude towards guns and gun ownership). The one counterpoint I might offer is that many people aren’t very principled and may be content to be hypocritical. For example (not that I’m necessarily a Kavanaugh fan) but when Kavanaugh was being grilled about the accusations from his past, the position from his opponents was that the accuser should be believed until it can be proven otherwise... now that Joe Biden is facing similar accusations all of a sudden the very same people are all about the presumption of innocence and due process. The same people who supported legal action against the baker who refused to make a cake this baker found objectionable celebrated the removal of certain undesirables from Facebook or Twitter because those are private companies who can refuse service to folks if they choose.
But on the other hand... if you’ve just purchased an AR-15 or Beretta 92, and folks are proposing laws on the books that will make you into a literal criminal for possessing that AR or Beretta...might be a little harder to agree if you yourself are affected and not some politician in DC or some baker in another state.

Good perspective Chris. I too grew up in a non-gun household as my parents were not gun people. I was ambivalent about firearms. It wasn’t until I started seeing Democrats pushing against our Constitution and willingness to give up rights in favor of more government control. I started reading the Federalist Papers and really better understanding why founders drafted our Constitution. At the same time, a buddy had taken me to a gun range for my first time and I discovered that I enjoyed shooting. Reading what our founders understood about tyrannical government control of the people and how throughout history tyrannical governments have seized the rights and liberties and killed countless numbers for control. This has shown me the importance of our 2nd Amendment Rights and how all other rights in our Bill of Rights would be made meaningless without having the 2nd A to provide the “teeth” to protect them. Growing up in public education with teachers and professors that by in large lean left, we are taught history but not what things the founders feared and why. Social “engineering” are the things the left tend to push even in times of crisis, just look at the recent bill for COVID 19 and the unrelated items the Dems tried to pass within it. Sort of the frog in the pot of water thing where the left slowly turns up the heat until it dies. We give up rights and liberties the same way, slowly over time. I agree with you that as more people begin to realize that government cannot completely protect you and that the police have no legal obligation to protect us, that our protection is really up to us as citizens, the gun debate will have a shift. This is why the left are really getting desperate in their push for more gun control. Just my opinion.

I listened to the whole video and when you got to the end, I was baffled. You had a great build up but then never reached the conclusion. You were building up and building but never arrived at the point you were building to. I think you were trying to establish that a lot of formerly disinterested young adults suddenly were brought to the other side of the firearms debate by current events. If that's the case, I would have to mention that those people you are referring to saw the reality that they were on the brink of being thrown into an actual apocalypse scenario. And, of course, the first association they are going to draw is, "It's going to be like The Walking Dead!" In the TV show, everybody had to carry a gun so that was the conclusion they drew for themselves. But once everything returns to normal, they will return to their normal vegetative state.

I'm a Baby Boomer and played Army with Toy Guns as a kid and got my first Shot Gun at 14. I have always had guns and am pro 2A. Interestingly, my Millennial Children own Handguns, Hunting Rifles and Shotguns. They are generally pro 2A BUT, can't fathom the reason why anyone needs an AR or AK and have no issue with their restriction or Banning.
Would my children or other formerly Anti-Gunners come to be 100% Pro 2A? Yes, IF the need to own and now, very likely, need to use those recently purchased guns becomes wide spread. If there is more of a Societal Breakdown, people out of work stealing from their neighbors, rioting and looting in city's WITH MEDIA COVERAGE that the Police can't or won't control it, then yes, the former, " Ban Guns, we got the Police and don't need guns," folks will see the need to have the ability to protect themselves, the way their Parents, Grandparents and Great Grandparents had to. If the Epidemic passes with the only Publicised Deaths being from Covid, then we may see unfired guns coming up for sale on the Used rack and the very next Lunatic that shoots up a School will bring these Brief Panic Buying Gun Owners back to howling for gun control again.

history shows free people think/act in the best interest of free people , any/everything the government takes/has control of is in the interest bigger government , questions?

  •  4 года назад

You should ask two fundamental questions?
    1. What is the difference between 911 and Covid-19 in the nature of these crisis’s?
    2. What is the role and capacity of the state (government) to address these crisis’s?
If you answer these questions you can understand people’s behaviour.
The first role of the Government is to protect itself. If gun ownership does NOT represent a threat to the state then you will be able to keep your guns.

I would be curious to hear from new gun owners on what their opinions were before and after their decision to buy given current events. Both, why they bought a gun and if they are likely to return it when things settle down. Also, how many new gun owners were indifferent vs in opposition of the second amendment and where do they stand now. Many long time gun owners have opinions about them but I haven’t heard any feedback from those that fall into the use group.

You make some good points in this video. I stopped really caring about guns for many years. I always owned a few but didn't shoot anything for almost two decades. I was guilty of ignoring the 2A area. I never took a anti gun stance but I didn't take a pro 2A stance either. I didn't ever vote against or go against guns in any way. I just acted like they didn't exist I guess. I then watched what was going on in Oregon and it floored me. I've never depended on the government. Well I didn't think so. Looking back on it, I didn't realize I was relying on the government for my family and my own defense but that's exactly what I was doing. I just didn't think about it because luckily I never had to call any police for defense. I would have had to though. Whether I like to admit it or not it's the sad truth. I guess I forgot where I came from and how I was raised in some ways. I will never again be reliant on anyone else to protect me or mine. It took 2020 to open my eyes back up.
