@@nathanarnold2621 Dude the fact that he's an alien and not a visible black person is a huge issue. In a lot of sci fi, black people get cast as aliens and their skin is covered up with makeup or cgi. A film can't claim diversity when it goes out of its way to literally conceal blackness.

To answer the dude who hates the prequels' question. The Empire doesn't use battle droids because they were made illegal following the Clone Wars specifically to prevent planets from being able to build a droid army and rebel. The galaxy as a whole has a general disdain for battle droids because of the Clone Wars. The Empire also uses that as the reasoning for their racist policies because the previous war involved mostly alien species forming the CIS.

I have been a star wars fan since i was a just a baby i saw epsiode 2 and 3 in theaters. i love star wars so much but i absolutely despise the fandom. It is by far the worst when it comes to bullying, not only do they bully each other but also actors and creators.
Here's a small list.
- Kelly Marie Tran (Rose Tico), she literally had to seek therapy after racist fans would non stop harrass her, causing her to leave social media
-Jake Lloyd (young Anakin) he got so much hate and backlash at only ten years old, even though he, along with these other actors, had no control over the script and direction. Can you imagine bullying a ten year old for doing his job? Can you imagine grown adults bullying a ten year old?? He quit acting a year after Phantom Menace came out. His life has gone downhill so much, with arrests from reckless driving and such, and I can only imagine how different it would have been if he had received support as a child instead of constant hate and harrassment.
-John Boyega (Finn), who had to deal with racist fans boycotting the movies because he was so much as casted.
-George Lucas (the creator himself) who after the prequals faced so much negativity he stopped making Star Wars movies, and eventually even sold the franchise.
- and Ahmed Best (Jar Jar Binks) who received non stop harassment from fans and even death threats, and 20 years later his career is still negatively affected by it. last year he opened up about the fact that he was suicidal because of the incessant hate that he received. (luckily he said he has overcome that, and is now in a better place, and has a son)
- and Hayden Christensen, Daisy Ridley, and any other cast or crew that faced harrassment and bullying from fans.

They do realise that this was made in 98-99 right? You cant expect the effects to be as good as a modern day movie with a way higher budget
filmed in 1997.....
The prequels literally pioneered effects and techniques that have been able to be improved in later films. I wish more people could appreciate that. The CGI is imperfect and outdated because this was the 90s but it paved the way for better effects, from Gollum to Thanos. Like it or not, prequel haters, Jar Jar is an important part of film history.
My friend never saw star wars. So we are watching it in chronological order because he doesn't know anything so I thought it would be better. I was kind of nervous about it but he liked episode 1. He liked anakin and he actually laughed at the Jar Jar jokes. "Why would people say this is bad CGI? This movie was made in 98?? It looks great"
Why not in release order? Doing it this way completely stuffs things like Empire Strikes Back’s entire plot twist because it becomes “yeah, of course Luke is Vader’s kid, we saw that happen”
He knew about Darth vader being the Father of the guy named Luke, and that Luke kissed his sister without knowing it was his sister. And he know some characters like chewbacca and Yoda So the biggest reveals would not be reveals.
So I wanted to do the experiment of showing him the prequels first because he had no idea who Darth Vader was. Anakin broke his heart XD

Jar jar just looks bad bc he was the first fully CG character ever made. Lucas developed the technology and wanted to show it off, fun fact he also created the Pixar computer and solid it to Pixar who were bought by Disney. Lucas made more than he is ever given credit for. In 1999 this would have been mind blowing

I hate when some fans try to influence other people's opinions of the prequels. They were disappointed that they weren't the Star Wars they remembered, but they could never be that again. These movies, in the end, are made for kids and if you ask kids who grew up with these movies, they were as blown away by them as us old school fans were by the original trilogy. To them, the prequels are more Star Wars than the original trilogy is. They're not perfect movies but there is a clear vision behind them, specific concepts and narratives Lucas wanted to get across to young people. I certainly think Revenge of the Sith is a better movie than Return of the Jedi, and I'm an original 77 SW fan.
We were disappointed that the stilted acting and dialogue were a huge step down from the naturalistic performances from the first two films. In fairness, though, the prequels were about on par with Return of the Jedi, which is faint praise. Harrison and Carrie were really phoning it in the third time around, and their terrible dialogue didn't help.

I hope that hater didnt influence your opinion of the movie. Is it executed well? Not really. But its a good story, and they get better. Revenge of the SITH is a good movie, although i bet he will not like that one either.

TheLegendOfRandy all I can tell you is, at the end of the day, I enjoy watching the movies. I enjoy the characters, I enjoy the story, I enjoy the world. It just bothers me when I see someone not allowing others to enjoy something just because they don’t enjoy it themselves, which I felt is happening here.
This trilogy is truly chaotic in the fact that it produced some of the best cgi ever made at the time, ie the Anakin race sequence, and produced some of the weirdest looking-uncanny-valley cgi ever made all at once
Jar Jar still looks better than most of the de-aging we've seen in the newer films. I'm not trying to hate the de-aging but more so praise what they did accomplish. I just wish George didn't insert so many CG clone faces in the background.
You can see the bias Jordan has in this video. The original trilogy has lots of flaws that no one points out but people nitpick about every little thing in the prequels. Jordan probably feels nostalgic when he watches the original trilogy and his bias doesn’t let him see the many flaws it has.
The characters not being wet is equivalent to them being clean and dry after the garbage scene in Episode 4 but I didn’t see anyone talking shit about that.

I like the prequels, but let's be real, not much happens in the Phantom Menace other than in the last quarter of the movie
Diego Pansini Qui-Gon is great throughout the film, he doesn’t follow the will of the council, he follows the force itself, he carries the green lightsaber as a master who is studied and learned but is not on the council itself. He is amazing throughout the movie. Obi-Wan is shown as being impatient and brash throughout the film, as many padawans are. Many of the visuals still hold up, such as when Qui-Gon melts the door with his lightsaber. And the entrance to the Gungan city, that’s a classic. The score throughout the film is top notch too, many people just focus on Duel of the Fates and forget that there are so many more good pieces. The pod race scene and all the scenes in the Jedi council are fantastic, the council scenes in particular because not only was this our first time seeing this much Jedi in one space, we are introduced to some of the greatest Jedi masters we would be spending the next few years and beyond with, Mace Windu, Ki-Adi-Mundi, and we saw Yoda in his prime too. The way they spoke of Anakin and to Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan expanded the lore to us in new ways and gave us more to think about, discuss, and know about the force, the prophecy, and the Jedi in general. Seeing Palpatine work his angles from the very beginning was great too, especially because it really is a carefully woven tapestry of deceit and betrayal from everyone in the senate to the Jedi themselves. I could go on and on. Even if you don’t like Jar Jar, there is plenty to love about this movie if you don’t consistently nit pick. I love Jar Jar for different reasons. He was the first all digital character in a live action movie ever. He, as a character, laid groundwork for many of the special effects characters we know and love today, characters like Thanos, characters like the Na’vi from Avatar, and Caesar from Planet of the Apes. “Jar Jar is the key to all of this” isn’t just a meme, he was a key figure in the story to giving the Chancellor emergency powers. But he also laid the groundwork for motion captured characters in film for decades to come. People love to rip on the prequels just because of a few outlying moments. But so few realize the actual accomplishments of the films.

I never understood the “style” argument from the CIS to the Republic, Rebels to the Empire they all have an artistic style even City planets like Cloud City and Naboo cultures within the Star Wars universe are amazing and limiting them to one style isn’t a smart move. Technically didn’t get worse overtime the original movies didn’t take place around Core worlds but the Outer rim far poorer than the rich planets locationed in the Core meaning less technological advances, basically like a western. I love how the Clone Wars TV series showed the many cultures of the universe while also putting the Republic up against forces with far better weapons and overall technology showing us that even the Republic isn’t the most advance force in the galaxy.

And just because the stylistc Desing of the Empires ships looks "less modern" to your eyes, maybe its a statement of doctrin and the values and Strength of the empire?(it is at least according to all lore, canon or Legends) It doesnt have to be consistent with our ideas of modernity because its not our Culture right? And as Dylan said, Coruscant is literally the Center of Galactic society of course it looks way more advanced than anything else. And it does look like this during the OT too as all the other Core Worlds do, but the OT takes place entirely in the Outer Rim, the Wild West of the Galaxy that isnt even properly Mapped and colonised in most places. Obviously the technology there is older and used, you dont have acess to new shit 400 Million lightyears from central because most of the Industrial Planets are in the Core too. Same Logic goes for the rebels, if you are an illegal Revolution faction you cant just buy the state of the Art Navy vessels and equipement, you use whatever scrap and oldtimers you can get your hands on.
Also also, you do know that Technological regression due to Fanatical Regimes/doctrins or other societal/natural factors is a thing and has happened multiple times in our own History, right?

This is my Fav Star Wars prequel, and Revenge of the Sith. And Jar-Jar isn’t bad for one of the first completely CGI characters in a live action movie.

While I respect that the green beanie dude has opinions on the film, next time please don't have someone there who just spews negativity the entire time. All three of the reactors seemed to genuinely enjoy much of the movie and he just dampened down the mood.
Trust me. Every single fucking person who watches this has heard every single criticism of the Prequels multiple times. We don't need reminding. And poisoning the others opinions on a movie that many people love despite its flaws is no fun for anyone.
No romance yet, and Padmé is only 14, Ani is 9. Romance doesn’t happen until the ages are 19 and 24. I’m not saying the romance was presented well in the movie, but the idea that there is a weird romance between a 21 and 9 year old is dumb

It's not "cool" to hate on the prequels anymore like green beanie guy seems to think. Were they great movies? No. Were they fine action movies that added a lot to Star Wars' lore? Yes. They're very enjoyable if you just recognize the fact that they're not incredible, and watch them for the laughs and the fantastic parts. And they were a technical marvel. George Lucas pioneered the special effects industry into a new age... TWICE. He's done more for cinema as a whole than anybody gives him credit for.
A film like The Last Jedi is the opposite of the prequels. Was it a well made movie? Yes. Did it setup the third act of a trilogy and tell a story that made sense within the universe? Absolutely not.

The reason the prequels didn't look as good is because the technology for cgi was relatively new at the time and is not supposed to be the main focus of the movie. "Oh the cgi and visuals aren't good, that means the movie is bad". Poor reasonings and just general unnecessary hate.

I love the phantom menace & I don't mean ironically. Here are some of the reasons why.
1. Queen Padme Amidala's character arc: She starts as naive, inexperienced, biased, pacifist. She learns that the Republic is corrupt, gains more experience & perspectives on life, learns that in some ways aliens are actually superior to humans & grows a bond with Jar Jar leading to her choosing to ask the gungans for help which the movie makes clear is not what the other people of Naboo would have done, & decides to fight to save her people. She ends the movie as a knowledgeable, open minded, experienced, warrior.
2. The Jedi Order. In their desire to prevent the existence Sith Lords they have become paranoid refusing to risk training children beyond a certain age. They have also become arrogant. The reason they only send Quigon & Obiwan to fight Maul is because they aren't sure they even believe he is a Sith since they believe that the Sith couldn't return without them knowing. Also if he is a Sith he'd disengage if he sensed the threat was too great for him. It makes Quigon's character interesting as his rebellious, risky, more flexible ways contrasts with theirs.
3. The relationship between Maul & Sidious. Maul was a loyal, respectful, & zealous Sith Lord. Sidious is patient, respectful, & careful in how he mentors Maul. You can't quite tell, but there's a chance they could've actually cared about each other. I know the extended universe & clone wars changed this, but this is the impression phantom menace gives me.
4. The action. I love how Quigon's is more skilled in how he fights, but Obiwan is more powerful. An example would be how Obiwan is shown to be able to Force push twice as man battle droids as Quigon. However, Quigon is able to handle things requiring more skill like when the droid is firing at them from a platform with faster more powerful blasts than a handheld blaster. This sets up that Obiwan will become one of the Order's finest, but still allows him to be an underdog compared to Quigon. I like how while the Naboo guards are more capable than the battle droids, the droids still are allowed to kill some of them & how both sides use cover either from pillars or in the Naboo guards case behind a lightsaber wielding Jedi. The lightsaber duels are also freaking awesome. Backflips, kicks, punches, Force push, double lightsaber opponent vs two single lightsaber opponents, I could go on & on.
5. Palpatine's plan is a two edged sword. Either the Federation takes over Naboo giving him a stronghold to form the Separatists or he becomes Supreme Chancellor which is another step towards him being Emperor. Padme by doing what she thinks is right ends up helping her worst enemy. Showing the Republic as corrupt, but also hinting that Palpatine is responsible for the corruption makes you question the accuracy Obiwan's description of the Republic in a New Hope wondering is the Republic was ever that great.
Edit: I thought about my 5th point a bit and while it is correct, Palpatine's plan is actually really bad. The movie never explains why he cannot just run for office and win without this overly complicated and suspicious plan. If anyone ever got suspicious of his motives or tried to expose him as emperor, him getting elected during this scheme would be suspect.

I think this is the first time I've ever seen someone say that Otah Gungah (The Underwater City) looks bad. It looks great! Much better than the planets that Disney have added with the Sequels. (Rogue One and Solo not included, those movies actually had some decent and unique planets).
