For the first 20 something times I listened to this I assumed it was addressed to Idra's sister but I just read the comments. I have to say, I really want to start reading Mercedes Lackey's books
Good places to start are The Last Herald Mage as well as the Arrows trilogy. Or, it seems, the new Founding of Valdemar trilogy. But I am still reading the second book and the last book is not here yet, so I can't say that definitively
@@TreespeakerOfTheLand I liked the first book of the Founding trilogy, the second one not so much - too many tong in cheek allusion to our own modern world, like social media; and the Vrondi issue was resolved a bit too "easily" for my taste. I found it funny when I realised during Mount and Blade playgame I'm a merchenary captain and I'm lissening to this song :3. Beside that I think its a realy nice song. Whaths its built on I'm not sure since I coudent find the books in my country yet D:
My comment was meant to be lead in a very literal and strict fashion -- an explicit pair of main characters, female, capable of combat (hand-to-hand to be precise). Even the later stories about the two of them, once Warl gets involved, no longer matches that description! There are many other stories out there with strong female characters, I just can't think of any other that focus around a duo with the listed characteristics.
I have almost all of Misty Lackey's books on the people of Valdemar. But I'm travelling so cannot search through my library. I did go to her website and found the following three books. I do not recall which book Idra is mentioned, I think it's Oathbreakers, but all the books are good. I do not believe there are any books (that I have) that actually has the story as it plays out, just pretty much what the song says. Anyway, these are the books. If you can still find them, enjoy. If they aren't in bookstores, you can find them at USED bookstores online.. I use Alibris dot com. But you might find them on Misty's website. I can't read while travelling. LOL I think there's a law against it. Books in chronological order:The Oathbound Oathbreakers Oathblood By the Sword
buwwwah. Honor Harrington, Mike Henk. A little Mary sue, but given that Honor in particular meant to be Nelson in space, forgivable. Pretty much any female character in discworld (no shortage there) Cordelia's Honor, The Nantucket trilogy, the Mistborn" trilogy. Jordan's, Female characters were annoying, but not because they're weak, so on. There is no shortage of awesome female characters in books, if you're having trouble finding them, try and look a little.
Well Honor have significant problems, she often battle her temper more than the enemy, and could use a lesson or two in not being bloody obvious to politics in first few books.
if you are a history buff to any degree... think the Viking execution method known as the 'blood eagle' (don't look up while eating) and make that a MERCY compared to what happened...
It's your pretty standard kidnap, torture, and rape combo, only it was done by her own brother. He also did what we do to female dogs that we don't want to reproduce, only not nearly as nicely. She eventually kills herself to escape. The sunhawks find this out because the "traitor guard" gained his confidence and he drunkenly brags what he did to his own sister. In the book, we follow the perspective of the traitor guards partner, who has a magic link so they are loosely connected to each other and can feel what the other feels. As the king is bragging what he did, the partner just feels a killing rage growing inside her while she is hiding out in an inn and knows that something is bothering her partner, who usually doesn't get emotional around strangers.
Griffith's once an orphan, A witty boy was he, With angel's face and behelit And his lifelong, precious dream, He left his town for soldier's life, He'll have his dream fulfilled, He learned his best to win a war And formed a company. He called us all his Falcons, And taught us how to fly, At soldiering we were the best That silver and gold could buy, We drink for captain Griffith, The leader of oir Band, We're proud to be his Falcons Sister Casca and rest of men. We fought for captain Griffith 'twas for him each castle fell, We followed him to battle and We followed him to hell, Until the day he had to choose Between us and his goal, He send us all to hell's den And flew onward all alone. I seeked him nearly two years, But heard of him no more, I killed a ton of monsters to find a friend I once adored, And I found only perils, And I found only death. But what you did to Casca - I will never forget. But now, as you are back on earth, contented in your dream, You'll awake into the nightmare When you'll hear my human scream, Run while you will, Unhuman, You wish you'd never reborn, By warrior, mage and blacksmith You're thrice declared foresworn!
I'm sorry, but I must take issue with your use of the phrase 'one of'. I honestly cannot think of any other quality stories with a pair of strong female leads, who also happen to be combat capable. Other stories may have 'badass' female leads, but I strongly doubt that A) they come in pairs, B) they're something you could legitimately call 'lady', and C) the characters are sketched in a manner that could be called 'real' -- see Mercedes' own comments for more info
The Buffy franchise, perhaps? Especially after the TV show ended, as Buffy gave her Slayer powers to all girls. So lots of girls running around beating stuff up. Probably doesn't fit your criteria, but it's all I can think of off the top of my head.
