it's amazing how jzboy manages to capture the difference between a character who fights with rules and a character fighting with the intent to kill. for instance, the amount of times asriel interrupted marisa as she tried to use milky way, or when asriel shot straight past marisa's *non-directional lasers*, or when asriel sent a direct star straight at marisa while she was preparing event horizon.
I liked how, as soon as she realized she really was in a fight for her life, Marisa went straight to using bombs. The spellcard system only limits how many bombs you get per 'life' because of the girls' sense of fair play; there's nothing stopping her from just spamming Master Spark/Final Master Spark if the rules get thrown out. Makes me wonder how Meiling, Reisen, or the other 'meme loser' girls would fair in a no-holds-barred fight.

From this video, we can see how much touhou inspired Tobyfox. Just look at the similarity the attacks of Asriel and the spellcards of Marisa. They are virtually the same.
@@thesmilingman5621 if you notice the laser that Marisa use in 4:24 it's not actually her attack it's from her partner Alice, the reason this happen is because when trying to fix incident yukari (that lady with big gowns and portal thingy) teleport Marisa and supposedly partner Alice to underground, that orange Lazer is Alice attack in Imperishable Night (IN)

Ah man. That was a trip. The animation went smoothly, the canons between both worlds were *close* to their sources, yet you combined them in a humorous and neatly. Being a huge fan of both worlds only makes it much better for me. It's been way too long since I've seen anything related to Undertale, but dang was it worth clicking this when It ended up on my recommendations. As a side note: I love your art style and animation style! I hope to see more from you!
I love what JzBoy did with the whole identity thing - identity is a HUGE thing in Touhou. Identity is what defines who you are and - to a certain extent - your power levels. The below is just me theorizing, but here we go. Main example - Junko, from legacy of lunatic kingdom. by purifying beings, she creates pseudo-gods, stripping them of parts she deems unnecessary - akin to removing parts of their identity. Thus, with Yukari manipulating the boundaries of identity, between two magicians - Alice and Marisa - she effectively blends the two together, akin to the reverse of what Junko does. Junko removes the dirt from the pond, Yukari adds it in. Thus, Marisa temporarily gains the power level of Alice - who we don't have concrete numbers for, but is definitely quite powerful to the point that even other youkai like Patchouli are willing to acknowledge her fighting capability. This comes into play later in the fight, when Marisa somehow *tears apart reality* and deals damage to Asriel. Again, we don't know Alice's true power, but Alice stated that Marisa has 2/7th the strength of herself. Thus, I do believe this scene is Marisa harnessing Alice's true power to force the rules of Spellcards, which says that nobody is truly invincible, and even if they are, it's only for a limited time.
The interesting part is that Alice is called “7-colored magician”, and Marisa has only 2 colors in her clothing design. It was also highlighted in a dialogue, when Alice said that Reimu’s chances of beating her are ~28%, which is exactly 2/7.
I personally like to think that the reason asriel is invulnerable in Undertale is because... You have gone too far. You can't give up now. Pure pacifism.
@BlazingWarior26could also be beacuse Marisa uses magic instead of physical attacks, maybe the monster souls are still vulnerable to a human with the intencion to kill or maybe the artist though it'd be cool if Marisa became enraged. Either way she cannot win this fight, like, even if she could destroy the monster souls she'd be defeated by Omega flowey anyways

I feel like after battling Sakuya, Frisk had became somewhat traumatized about that whole experience, but Chara was more intrigued by it, which is why they managed to carry around the knife she gave them. Why would Sakuya give a kid a knife? I have no idea, maybe she was just happy to meet someone who's just as good as using knives as she is.
id say its understandable, to Sakuya all this was probably just fun and games like it normally is in the game (not to mention the fact that Sakuya can just reappear later on so even murdering her wouldn't... murder her?) (also side note at which moment is the knife shown i want to know)

Never commented but this animation inspired me from 2019, dont know much about touhou to this day and doubt jzboy will see this but I wanted to say thank you for your hard work to make these animations. Deep in my heart I cherrish these kind of videos since it feels so cool watching someone make something like this.

Yeah, Asriel is a true universal+. Not by any technicality, he's just able to destroy and create the universe. Marisa's maybe city? At best? The only reason you don't instalose in Undertale is because Frisk has universal+ durability in that moment.
The thing about Touhou characters is that even the characters that are treated as jokes are, at an absolute minimum, army busters. The low level fairys and such have the power to kill thousands if the rules aren't followed.

@@kknowlage9843 Hakurei Reimu has the utterly, ludicrously broken power called Fantasy Nature, that lets her float away from reality and become something like a living fiction; if she kept it up all the time, there's canonically no way to touch her. The spellcard rules are essentially enforced by the fact that, if the youkai decide to break them, Reimu stops playing nice.
Marisa isn't quite so broken, but she's the series deuteragonist who keeps up with Reimu on pure hard work (and stealing spells from absolutely everyone she meets lol). She's not someone you'd want to bet against, either.

No; being able to _selectively cease to exist_ is too much of a trump card. You can't even really catch her by surprise, because she gets _stronger_ when she isn't paying attention -- Marisa cites her doing Buddha-like feats like fish jumping out of a river to support her when she walks into a river without looking, it's the same ability.
mark Manus well, yes but no. In the Touhou canon, it is stated that danmaku can’t actually hurt someone. The only person who could hurt someone is Marisa because we don’t know if her Master Spark is a giant freaking laser or just a big danmaku laser. Danmaku only makes someone go “Pshewwww~”
This is beautifully animated! I'm not even an Undertale fan, but I appreciate the mix of humor and seriousness, fabulous spell cards with their kill-aimed counterparts, and of course the ending scene is so cute. All the small details like the music changes, background changes, Alice briefly appearing since it's mainly based on IN, Tewi's white flag, the scenes referencing the Touhou fighting game spinoffs, showing the hitbox and grazing mechanic, even Yukari gapping the rest of her and Reimu's opponents! It's clear that you have a great deal of respect for both games, and that really shines through!
I love seeing this again, when I originally saw this, I didn't know touhou and came in as an undertale fan thinking Marisa was like a witch of the moon or something and had no idea what reimu or yukari had to do with the day and night cycle, but now I see it from the touhou side, understanding that this is in the events of IN and Marisa thinks yukari is messing with the boundary of night and day and the little joke if tewi's white flag as a reference to her song from phantasmagoria of flower view
@@fndkzifnenekfnzn7832 He was talking about the video, the current Touhou events that were going on is during Touhou 8, aka IN (Imperishable Night) as Reimu and Yukari during the Marisa fight in which Yukari, instead of having the hardest boss fight, just gapped her to Asriel, and the part where Tewi waves the little white flag can be a reference to Tewi's theme in Touhou 9.
I honestly hate Marisa's boss fight though, all of the s t a r s are way too thin, also I don't really like Highly Responsive to Prayers too much because the Yin-Yang Orb spawner will think it's a good idea to crush me with the orb
Fun fact - The song that starts at 7:58 is called Witches Ball ~ Magus and neither comes from both games, the song comes from Seihou 1 - Shuusou Gyoku in the Extra stage where you fight Marisa and Reimu but the theme goes for Marisa.

i remember watching this years ago when i was still an undertale fan and know nothing about touhou. i forgot my reaction to this back then but i do remember being confused on who are these "lunarians" and of course, marisa and other touhou characters. little did i know, i would eventually become a touhou fan and know these things. (i still like undertale a bit) (also, good choice of music, especially the part where marisa was pissed. bloody amazing.)
also, i haven't played the touhou games but i do play the mobile fangame "Thousand Night Anamnesis", which is pretty good imo. i do plan to play the actual games if i ever get a pc.
@@oofi1 yeah, the mobile game is surprisingly good. For PC I would recommend Touhou 14 and 17 to play first since these are quite easy ones. The choice is up to you, but these two are probably better for a starter.

@@minasthirith6314 The other two: Hecatia is canonically the strongest Touhou character so far in terms of pure brute strength Junko in her game doesn’t play by the spell card rules: her main objective is to straight up kill you, the player. This is reflected in her spell cards, which are noticeably less focused on the aesthetic and lean more on homicidal intent.
This feels like pretend fighting with my siblings with them saying, “No, that attack didn’t hit.” And if it does, it’s like “It didn’t hurt, I’m invincible.”
Marisa’s face when she decides to stop playing by the rules is just a face of pure “I’m going to f* cking destroy you down to every last atom of your being” and I love it, this is why one doesn’t invoke the wrath of touhou characters, this is what happens
@Noah zzstu Smith you are correct about that but how do you think asriel would handle the stronger touhou characters. Haven’t played the touhou games myself but it sounds like Marisa is on the weaker side when conspired to other characters in her series.
@@thetruegamer194 that is true, however just because Marisa isn’t an immortal vampire with the power to destroy everything, a hell raven with the power to control nuclear fusion, or an immortal goddess who can control boundaries she still isn’t weak by any means, I too haven’t played any mainstream touhou games but judging by the amount of things they have to dodge in every game asriel would have to make up some crazy attacks on the fly in order to just hit her, plus she’s used to having to deal with insane bullet hells while also creating her own so I don’t think asriel would last long unless he pulled out his final form and even then he would have to kill her before his asriel side takes control from Flowy and stops it, and I don’t see that happening in time considering how small your hit box is in touhou and how maneuverable the characters are
@GIOVANNI MARTINEZ I agree, but I think that unless he pulls out his final form which allows him to make it so people can’t move it would probably end up as a stalemate because Marisa would have too much trouble with his attacks but at the same time she wouldn’t be able to do anything to him because of his infinite defense so I’m pretty sure either it would go until they are both so tired that neither can fight or asriel would get a couple lucky shots and could possibly win
@Noah zzstu Smith trust me, I’m well aware of how strong she is, and I was just using the examples I did not as a way to make her seem less powerful than she is because she is easily on par with flan and remi in magical power, I was just using those examples as a way of saying despite all these disadvantages she still manages to be almost if not an equal for them and plus an immortal vampire with the ability to destroy anything sounds a lot cooler then a human capable of high level magic
Words cannot describe how amazing this animation was. First Frisk vs. Sakuya (two of my favourite characters of all time), and now this. My favourite character, Marisa, and Asriel Dreemurr, another one of my favourite characters, going head-to-head as their attacks with a very similar style rival one another. The fight was absolutely awesome. It was so well-choreographed and extremely fluid, not to mention colourful (felt like an anime LSD trip XD) and I really loved the end. It was very touching and everything seemed to resolve itself rather nicely. I also like how you payed an homage to the previous animation as well. The backstory at the end along with the music nearly moved me to tears. I highly encourage you to make more of these UT vs. TH animations, especially since I thought this one was better than the first (quality and story-wise). I really hope to see one with Reimu, Cirno, Undyne, or Mettaton (or a combination of any of the two, perhaps). Your animations continue to blow me away. Very well done. :D

I love what JzBoy did with the whole identity thing - identity is a HUGE thing in Touhou. Identity is what defines who you are and - to a certain extent - your power levels.
The below is just me theorizing, but here we go.
Main example - Junko, from legacy of lunatic kingdom. by purifying beings, she creates pseudo-gods, stripping them of parts she deems unnecessary - akin to removing parts of their identity.
Thus, with Yukari manipulating the boundaries of identity, between two magicians - Alice and Marisa - she effectively blends the two together, akin to the reverse of what Junko does. Junko removes the dirt from the pond, Yukari adds it in. Thus, Marisa temporarily gains the power level of Alice - who we don't have concrete numbers for, but is definitely quite powerful to the point that even other youkai like Patchouli are willing to acknowledge her fighting capability.
This comes into play later in the fight, when Marisa somehow *tears apart reality* and deals damage to Asriel. Again, we don't know Alice's true power, but Alice stated that Marisa has 2/7th the strength of herself. Thus, I do believe this scene is Marisa harnessing Alice's true power to force the rules of Spellcards, which says that nobody is truly invincible, and even if they are, it's only for a limited time.
The interesting part is that Alice is called “7-colored magician”, and Marisa has only 2 colors in her clothing design. It was also highlighted in a dialogue, when Alice said that Reimu’s chances of beating her are ~28%, which is exactly 2/7.
I personally like to think that the reason asriel is invulnerable in Undertale is because...

I feel like after battling Sakuya, Frisk had became somewhat traumatized about that whole experience, but Chara was more intrigued by it, which is why they managed to carry around the knife she gave them.

@@kknowlage9843 Hakurei Reimu has the utterly, ludicrously broken power called Fantasy Nature, that lets her float away from reality and become something like a living fiction; if she kept it up all the time, there's canonically no way to touch her. The spellcard rules are essentially enforced by the fact that, if the youkai decide to break them, Reimu stops playing nice.
Marisa isn't quite so broken, but she's the series deuteragonist who keeps up with Reimu on pure hard work (and stealing spells from absolutely everyone she meets lol). She's not someone you'd want to bet against, either.

This is beautifully animated! I'm not even an Undertale fan, but I appreciate the mix of humor and seriousness, fabulous spell cards with their kill-aimed counterparts, and of course the ending scene is so cute. All the small details like the music changes, background changes, Alice briefly appearing since it's mainly based on IN, Tewi's white flag, the scenes referencing the Touhou fighting game spinoffs, showing the hitbox and grazing mechanic, even Yukari gapping the rest of her and Reimu's opponents! It's clear that you have a great deal of respect for both games, and that really shines through!
I love seeing this again, when I originally saw this, I didn't know touhou and came in as an undertale fan thinking Marisa was like a witch of the moon or something and had no idea what reimu or yukari had to do with the day and night cycle, but now I see it from the touhou side, understanding that this is in the events of IN and Marisa thinks yukari is messing with the boundary of night and day and the little joke if tewi's white flag as a reference to her song from phantasmagoria of flower view

i remember watching this years ago when i was still an undertale fan and know nothing about touhou. i forgot my reaction to this back then but i do remember being confused on who are these "lunarians" and of course, marisa and other touhou characters.
little did i know, i would eventually become a touhou fan and know these things. (i still like undertale a bit)
(also, good choice of music, especially the part where marisa was pissed. bloody amazing.)
also, i haven't played the touhou games but i do play the mobile fangame "Thousand Night Anamnesis", which is pretty good imo. i do plan to play the actual games if i ever get a pc.

For PC I would recommend Touhou 14 and 17 to play first since these are quite easy ones. The choice is up to you, but these two are probably better for a starter.

Junko in her game doesn’t play by the spell card rules: her main objective is to straight up kill you, the player. This is reflected in her spell cards, which are noticeably less focused on the aesthetic and lean more on homicidal intent.

@Noah zzstu Smith you are correct about that but how do you think asriel would handle the stronger touhou characters. Haven’t played the touhou games myself but it sounds like Marisa is on the weaker side when conspired to other characters in her series.
@@thetruegamer194 that is true, however just because Marisa isn’t an immortal vampire with the power to destroy everything, a hell raven with the power to control nuclear fusion, or an immortal goddess who can control boundaries she still isn’t weak by any means, I too haven’t played any mainstream touhou games but judging by the amount of things they have to dodge in every game asriel would have to make up some crazy attacks on the fly in order to just hit her, plus she’s used to having to deal with insane bullet hells while also creating her own so I don’t think asriel would last long unless he pulled out his final form and even then he would have to kill her before his asriel side takes control from Flowy and stops it, and I don’t see that happening in time considering how small your hit box is in touhou and how maneuverable the characters are
@GIOVANNI MARTINEZ I agree, but I think that unless he pulls out his final form which allows him to make it so people can’t move it would probably end up as a stalemate because Marisa would have too much trouble with his attacks but at the same time she wouldn’t be able to do anything to him because of his infinite defense so I’m pretty sure either it would go until they are both so tired that neither can fight or asriel would get a couple lucky shots and could possibly win
@Noah zzstu Smith trust me, I’m well aware of how strong she is, and I was just using the examples I did not as a way to make her seem less powerful than she is because she is easily on par with flan and remi in magical power, I was just using those examples as a way of saying despite all these disadvantages she still manages to be almost if not an equal for them and plus an immortal vampire with the ability to destroy anything sounds a lot cooler then a human capable of high level magic

Thanks to this animation I found out what touhou was about, and I’m forever grateful for it
Words cannot describe how amazing this animation was. First Frisk vs. Sakuya (two of my favourite characters of all time), and now this. My favourite character, Marisa, and Asriel Dreemurr, another one of my favourite characters, going head-to-head as their attacks with a very similar style rival one another. The fight was absolutely awesome. It was so well-choreographed and extremely fluid, not to mention colourful (felt like an anime LSD trip XD) and I really loved the end. It was very touching and everything seemed to resolve itself rather nicely. I also like how you payed an homage to the previous animation as well. The backstory at the end along with the music nearly moved me to tears.
I highly encourage you to make more of these UT vs. TH animations, especially since I thought this one was better than the first (quality and story-wise). I really hope to see one with Reimu, Cirno, Undyne, or Mettaton (or a combination of any of the two, perhaps). Your animations continue to blow me away. Very well done. :D
For Undyne he would need a good Story/Reason to let Undyne fight to Limits but that would be extremely nice to more of these fantastic animations
