Not Gavin giving me anxiety as he talks with his hands while holding red wine and wearing a white jumper. Seriously though, I had a stroke in June and your videos, especially the long ones, helped me find some comfort and laughter in a hard, painful time. Thank you, what you do matters.
@@GavinReadsItAll Thank you, and I am healing, it's slow but day by day. The only way forward is through. You are a bright light and the giggles as I lay in the hospital those first weeks were a blessing. I rarely ever comment on videos, but I wanted you to know that the gifts you bring us every week matters. Merry Christmas.
Hope you are doing better. My husband had 4 strokes this year and I know it takes awhile to heal and feel more like yourself. Hope you have a great holiday season!!
Omg The Laws of the Skies, The Haar, and The Eyes are the Best Part made both of our lists let’s gooo 🤩 Also, hell yes I love Battle Royale, The Reformatory, Before I Let Go and The Charm Offensive too! 😍
Such an interesting, surprising mix. Merry Christmas Garvin!🎄 Thank you for being you in a year of wonderful vids that made the crapshow that was 2024 a bit better. ❤🤗
Gavin is my Christmas break entertainment. I’ve started from the oldest videos and I’m having a blast. Is it sad If rather spend time with Gavin than people I actually know? You’ve been hilarious from the start.
Merry Christmas, Gav and all ♥️🎄! I’ve added Kindred to my cart. 👍 Sounds amazing. Couldn’t agree with you more on Lord of the Rings. I’m headed back to rewatch your LOTR vlog for the umpteenth time 😂.
I'm glad Pet made it onto your best books. It's such an interesting book, a mix of Mythology and moral/ethics for teens. I still need to read the prequel though!
You are my spirit animal! Sitting there with your TNBC hoodie and a glass of wine - chefs kiss 💋 Merry Christmas Gavin from across the water in Northern Ireland x
I‘m actually so happy to see Dungeon Crawler Carl up there. I loved that series so much and Carls Doomsday Scenario is actually my favourite book of the year so far. Your list is amazing and I Think my wishlist just exploded 😊😂 Wish you a merry Christmas and enjoy your holidays 🎄
I have yet to watch your raven cycle vlog but it made me so excited that you had the same experience with it as I did, in that not a single book is fully 5 stars but the series? Definitely is😂 (I had the same thing happen with the last binding series, if you ever read that I'd be so curious if you feel the same)
ohhh i feel the same with the last binding! except i did really like the last book so maybe i don't completely relate, but like even if i rated the first 2 books a 3.5 star, i would still recommend the entire series to everyone for some reason??? just a totally fun experience with the loveliest characters
I started reading your #1 book at the beginning of the year and was looking for some videos to accompany my reading adventure. Imagine my joy discovering your videos that had just been uploaded. It just had to be. It was perfect. It also was the quickest subscription of a youtube channel. I can’t wait to re-read it with you next year ❤
Your number one is probably my number one as well, had a couple of weeks where I was horribly unwell and rereading these (and reading some more from the universe for the first time) was just a joyously comforting time.
The Legally Blonde musical reference made me smile so big hahaha that is one of my favorite musicals of all time, me and my bestie have matching Delta Nu tattoos with a quote from the show 😂
I always make a comment when you mention the Raven Cycle, but I totally agree on your thoughts (although I really like Adam now but respect/understand the slander). The plot is like??? But the characters, atmosphere, writing style, and general vibes are immaculate for me ✨ Also just read the Eyes Are the Best Part and had the same exact thoughts as well. Will definitely be checking out some of your other recs.
Yes! Crooked House made it to your top books! I've told you in your first Agatha Christie video that you should read it, that it's one of her best. It's not so popular but it's known and beloved by Christie's fans. It's so so good!
So jazzed for end of the year content! The Charm Offensive would have been my worst book of last year if I hadn’t DNF’d halfway through 😂 Adam Parrish is my son, but I understand your feelings lol I really need to retry your #1. I never made it very far, but I tried reading them over 10 years ago so I’m completely different now
I feel you so much with the Raven Cycle series, individually I though the books where great but would not say that any of them is my favorite book but the whole series its without a doubt one of my favorite series. It's super strange
Good list! Will be adding Battle Royale, The Reformatory, and the Raven Cycle to my TBR. I haven't read LotR in a long time, might be time for a reread/rewatch next year! I don't keep track of what I read throughout the year so I don't have a thorough list but here are some of what I read off the top of my head: The Haunting of Hill House - Love, love, love! Read this for Halloween and it was perfect. The descriptions, the atmosphere, everything. To be honest I was kind of expecting ghosts but I also enjoyed it for what it was. That ending was so, sooo good. Hunter x Hunter - Not finished yet but I believe I have caught up to where the 2011 anime ended and will stop there for the time being. I adore this, probably one of my favourite manga series that I am following. Started off just enjoying the fun adventure stuff in the beginning and then it. Kind of. Took a turn. I didn't expect that because the friend that recommended this to me described it as "lighthearted adventure with good friendship moments and interesting characters". I mean, yes it is that, but also, bitch in what universe was that lighthearted? The Full Rip 9.0 - This one is non-fiction and made me terrified of living in the Cascadia region. I am now woefully aware of how unprepared I am for natural disasters. Hehehe I am so going to die. I also read tons (okay, like seven lol) of Agatha Christie. I don't quite vibe with Christie's style anymore but she did reawaken my interest in the genre again. My year isn't over yet and the second-to-last book I am about to read for December is Death Among the Undead by Masahiro Imamura - a locked room murder mystery featuring zombies. I have never read a murder mystery hybridised with another genre (I mostly read traditional - Christie, Doyle, etc.) so I am very excited for this one. Apparently this book made waves in Japan, topped multiple mystery fiction rankings simultaneously (the first book to do so?) and spawned a manga and live action adaptation. Very intriguing. The last book I want to read for the year is The Clouds by Aristophanes... just because.
My anxiety level for that white hoodie with the wine waving around as this went on 🙀 Definitely check out John Wiswell's lengthy backlist of short fiction and non-fiction (he has it all handily linked on his site). Its absolutely got that aspect of exploring otherness by subverting expectations about monsters or monstrosity, with such cozy and empathetic elements all over.
If you're looking for a series with a big emphasis on the found family trope, check out the Riverfall Chronicles by Jacquelyn Hagen. The Wickwire Watch is the first book, and it's basically Oliver Twist meets Howl's Moving Castle. It's a fantasy series with mystery and horror elements. The main character is a thief with trust issues. It's so good. Hope you have another great reading year!
i read A Darker Shade of Magic series last year around this time and the books weren't perfect but i had a great time and when the weather started getting colder this year i was like craving reading that series again
Gavinnnnnnnnn ❤ here are my top 5 favorties of the year and some of them are Christmas thrillers that i found on kindle unlimited n at my library 1.Xmas break by j.e rowney 2.I'll be alone for Christmas by Kristin mulligan 3.Hoilday homicide by Michelle powers 4.Four found dead by Natalie D. Richards 5.Heartstopper series
Ash just can't help himself, he needs to create some chaos and get some extra attention.😆I also can kick myself for not reading Kindred earlier, its also in my top 10 books of the year. And I can't wait to read LOTR together.🥰
Wait, you made a video for Crooked House? I don't remember that. I'll have to look it up. It's one of my favourite Agatha Christie books, and I love Slagatha! So fun! And, yes, I think it's totally solvable. The clues are clear when you read it a second time. I haven't read The Dead Zone but I love the TV series (2002-2007). It's probably really different from the book. The Lord of the Rings series was a weird reading experience for me. I got a box set with The Hobbit when I was about 12 and adored The Hobbit. However, I was so disappointed when I realized that Bilbo wasn't the main character of the other 3 books that I DNF'd the first one and didn't even bother with the rest. Before getting rid of the box set when I was about 20, I forced myself to read them and didn't like any of them except The Hobbit. Then the movies came out and I loved them - a bit too many battle scenes and a little light on some of the characters but still wonderful. After the last one, I decided to read the series again (skipping The Hobbit) to get that extra detail and loved them. I really think the visuals from the movies helped me enjoy the books more. That's never happened before or since.
Gavin you should really try the Phil Draglish audiobooks for LOTR. The best experience reading them ever! They have sound effects and the sound tracks. You really feel like you’re in the shire.
Oh my gosh I loved The Charm Offensive! I read it a little while back, but I am loving this author. The Christmas romance she did was cute and sapphic, but had other queer rep too. I made a massive queer holiday romance TBR and watch list and it made a stressful time way better.
Believe it or not, Lord Dunsandy was the true grandfather of Fantasy in general with his "The King of Elfand's Daughter" novel. Tolkin was the father of *modern* fantasy and as a reaction to both Dunsany and Tolkin, Robert E Howard was the father of Sword and Sorcery (or S&S for short) and using dective pulp fiction as a starting point. The pass two years was me doing a backlog of stuff that was during and before Tolkin's time and get a feel for how fantasy evolved, so that's why I kinda know a bit more of the history and realized I'm a Sword and Sorcery girl lol.
@@GavinReadsItAll No problem. Not many people know this unless they go down that rabbit hole. I went into this because I was learning what inspired fantasy table-top games RPGs and these were on the origonal Apendix N. Other books that inspired them and I have in my TBR are: "Sign of the Labrys", "Dying Earth", and "Empire of the East". The more I read older fantaies, the more I realize I'm not crazy about the Sanderson method of magic where even the idea of "Magic Theory" is too "soft" for it. If you want easy reads but want to get into Sword and Sorcery, I suggest starting with Robert E Howard's "Conan the Barbarian" short stories, they're vastly different than what you see in the movies but still fun. I think you may actually enjoy them after hearing your experience of Dungeon Crawler Carl. But yeah, Those short stories are literally only two hours listen on audiobook and very short read, and super easy to get into. I started with "The Phenoix and the Sword" but you can start honestly anywhere and you would have a fun time. I do plan on reading more of them but I'm also working on.... 435 books in my TBR this coming year and trying to read what I own already, so that may be a slow go.
OMG, I remember The Long Walk! Very disturbing. Your hoodie ❤ The gay grinch 😆 oh no. The Dead Zone, I didnt finish that book because my son's name is Greg. The Raven Cycle.... my ratings were so similar to yours. I really loved the first two. Loved Blue's family. Salems Lot was great. I need a re read this coming autumn. Great memories reading, back in the day. I need Kindred, The Will of the Many and Dungeon Crawler Carl. Great job!

Highly highly recommend The Betrayal of Thomas True, it is a genre bending massively gay book about The Mollies of the 1700’s, I am not the biggest historical fiction fan but this book bends that as it is part mystery, part romance, part fantastical elements. The twists will dislocate your body parts and you will fall in love with these characters, you will laugh out loud but then when it breaks you be prepared for the break. I can’t recommend this book enough and it is a must read. You are missing out not reading it ❤
Dear Gavin! Have you read anything from Rose Black? She has two gay romantasies called 'Til death do us bard' and 'Fated Winds and Promising Seas'. I'm not the one into romance, but here it was so cute and on par with the main stories that I've really enjoyed both books! For some reason I hear noone talking about these books.
I am so bummed cause EVERYONE I follow has been absolutely raving about The Will of the Many and it just didn't grab me... 😭💔 I really don't want to dnf it completely so I might just do a soft dnf but it was really starting to put me into a reading slump.

Thank you so much for sharing your top 24, great list!
You are missing out not reading it ❤
Watching now, loving. But I keep flinching when I worry that you might get wine on your beautiful white sweatshirt 😅
I'm too much of a wine connoisseur to spill it and waste a drop, don't worry haha
Best opening line 10/10 😂
Man I want the audiobook for Dungeon Crawler Carl so bad but my library, in the United States Oregon, only has the FRENCH VERSION? Why? 😭😭
You may also enjoy The Faceless Old Woman Who Secretly Lives in Your Home by Joseph Fink
Thanks for the recommendation!
I have til death do us bard but haven’t read it yet, looking forward to it though
Someone you can build a nest in made my best books too. ❤❤
Yay 🎉🎉
The anxiety I’m getting watching you drink that red wine while wearing white.
Me cracking up in the first five seconds 😂😂😂
📚📚✨
I was just waiting for the will of the many 😂
Haha it’s on so many people’s lists
Literally just finished Done and Dusted then clicked on this video lol.
Good timing
BRB while I go read The Lord of The Rings for the first time 🙈
I wanna much of a fan of Salem’s Lot.
I am so bummed cause EVERYONE I follow has been absolutely raving about The Will of the Many and it just didn't grab me... 😭💔 I really don't want to dnf it completely so I might just do a soft dnf but it was really starting to put me into a reading slump.
Absolutely soft DNF it! We don’t want you getting in any reading slumps!
the will of the many is THAT GIRL
She’s all that and MORE
02:47 😂😂😂 👁️👅
VILEEEE hehe 😜
The quantity of wine we start this video with is a perfect depiction of how 2024 felt
Omg Quicksilver gagged me! I’d never heard of this book before watching these best of 2024 videos and I’ve already seen it mentioned like 8 times
I’m only on 13 and I already want to do a dedicated video for reading your favorite books because so many of these are books I think I’m gonna LOVE
@@KatieColsonbut imagine if you hated them all 👀 now THAT would make an interesting plot twist of a video hehe
❤📚🧝♂️
Does everyone love The Will of the Many???? 😂
It seems so haha
Hello my dear 🥰💘

Can I just say based on your Raven boys video we have very very similar opinions on characters, especially Adam 😒
