I've listened to different people play this ballade and he plays this with such passion I am overwhelmed. Mr. Erez there are things in this world that are so beautiful that words cannot express it and this is one of these.

I think in this case, calling it perfection wouldn't even do it justice. i literally cannot listen to anyone else play this piece now. just awesome!!!

Mr. Erez makes Chopin proud with this performance. His capacity of understanding ALL of the nuances of the piece is absolutely superb. I just ordered a lot of his CDs and could not be happier with the service and response. I asked them to be signed and was promptly assured that he would personally take care of me. What a phenomenal pianist.....

Not to mention his phenomenal piano.

The most humbling and honestly played version of this piece I have come across. I think the biggest wow factor is how he seems to not struggle in the slightest: in fact he plays it like he was born to play it.

It is my understanding that Chopin composed this entire Ballade after reading a poem by a Polish author he admired.

my life is now split up into 2 parts: my life before watching this video as an electric guitarist, and my new life after watching this video as a pianist who will one day in many years of practicing be able to play this.

As I just wrote on the itunes page; I went through 7-8 arrangements of Ballade No. 1 in G Minor Opus 23 before finding Mr Erez's fantastic playing. He captures the emotional shift that Chopin created in each stage of this ballad, and unlike other pianists he seems to understand how this piece is SUPPOSED to be played. Not too quickly, not too slowly, with the correct emphasis and split-second pauses - nuances that many pianists either ignore or take too much license with when playing this piece.

My dad used to play this when I was growing up. I used to lay under the piano and listen to it. It will be something I take with me for the rest of my life, I love my dad and his gift of music.

My favorite Chopin piece, and maybe any piano piece. It is powerful yet delicate. But it is technically very demanding. I think if one has the technique to play this song well then one can play anything by any composer. I never made it to this level to my regret

A prime example of consciousness expressed with as little interference as possible. Not all music should aspire to be this but all music and most human ears can revel in the moment, modest, and flabbergasted as we stand before its complexity and fluid grace.

I really appreciate the way he plays, because we can feel the constant care of making each single not clearly sing even in rapid mouvements, and the respect of the original staff as written by the genius composer.
Great respect for the player Tzvi Erez and limitless admiration for the composer...
Hope F. Chopin can listen to all the pianist playing his pieces around the world since such a long time, and appreciate the pleasure he gives to the generations until now and for long time again.

This is definitely one of my absolute favorite performances of this song. Not to say that I'm some music genius, because I'm not, but I've listened to so many renditions of this piece and, again, this one is probably #1 or #2 for me. Thank you for posting this. Also, this is slightly irrelevant, but I love the camera work, and the piano sounds amazing, and it looks like it has incredible touch. Altogether, an awesome video.

Beautiful! I played a bit of Chopin inn my piano playing days. What EVER possesses people who don't like classical music to come to a video like this and say DISLIKE? Oh wait I know! Angry immature people who are so full of hate and resentment they feel better when they [think] they can upset others. I pity them as I get a LOT of satisfaction and warmth from reading all the love messages here! Thank you, adults.

for those of you who wonder what makes his performance so brilliant.,is my opinion that he interpreted this piece in its correct way.
he took his time and did not speed up or exaggerate the intense parts as many others would do.

I want to learn to play piano with a passion. Not just for some contest, but just to play. I want to learn a piece and say I actually enjoyed it, not just learn and forget. I want to love a song; a song that I can play for enjoyment, Something that makes me happy. A Song I can understand, one that I'll probably love. One where I can just play and be happy. Thanks to this video, I understand piano a little better now.

Ive since listened to all the dif artist play it and you sir hold my number 1 spot. I even liked yours more than Rubinstein. I heard it was Ballades 2 & 3 that were mainly inspired by a polish poem. Chopin wrote this when he was only 23, and when he was living as an immigrant in Vienna: This is, to my knowledge, pretty much the only narrative we have to the 1st B, and one can certainly hear te lamenting and loneliness in there amongst everything else! Great recording btw. I recently did it too in a gig, You can catch it on my channel if you fancy checking it out!
