I've listened to different people play this ballade and he plays this with such passion I am overwhelmed. Mr. Erez there are things in this world that are so beautiful that words cannot express it and this is one of these.
Mr. Erez makes Chopin proud with this performance. His capacity of understanding ALL of the nuances of the piece is absolutely superb. I just ordered a lot of his CDs and could not be happier with the service and response. I asked them to be signed and was promptly assured that he would personally take care of me. What a phenomenal pianist.....
The most humbling and honestly played version of this piece I have come across. I think the biggest wow factor is how he seems to not struggle in the slightest: in fact he plays it like he was born to play it.
Certainly one of the most beautiful performances of the Ballade No.1 in the recording of video and audio♫ also. I'm very impressed ツ My congratulations best regards from Poland
I can't help it but I listen to this piece several times everyday. The best version I heard anywhere and for the pleasure you have brought us thank you Mr. Erez
my life is now split up into 2 parts: my life before watching this video as an electric guitarist, and my new life after watching this video as a pianist who will one day in many years of practicing be able to play this.
As I just wrote on the itunes page; I went through 7-8 arrangements of Ballade No. 1 in G Minor Opus 23 before finding Mr Erez's fantastic playing. He captures the emotional shift that Chopin created in each stage of this ballad, and unlike other pianists he seems to understand how this piece is SUPPOSED to be played. Not too quickly, not too slowly, with the correct emphasis and split-second pauses - nuances that many pianists either ignore or take too much license with when playing this piece.
My dad used to play this when I was growing up. I used to lay under the piano and listen to it. It will be something I take with me for the rest of my life, I love my dad and his gift of music.
My favorite Chopin piece, and maybe any piano piece. It is powerful yet delicate. But it is technically very demanding. I think if one has the technique to play this song well then one can play anything by any composer. I never made it to this level to my regret
Who could dislike this? I dont even listen to this kind of music and still find it utterly beautiful and empowering. Piano is where all music comes from.
I never get tired to be amazed by this performance. The quality of the recording is remarquable, Chopin's ballade sounds perfect on such a vintage piano
A prime example of consciousness expressed with as little interference as possible. Not all music should aspire to be this but all music and most human ears can revel in the moment, modest, and flabbergasted as we stand before its complexity and fluid grace.
I've been practicing this piece for 3 months now... I came here to listen to the pedaling, by the time it was over my mouth was open in awe lol. After seeing this I feel like there's no way I can do it... but yet at the same time, I feel inspired. Amazing performance
I love this ballade. When I hear it, I think of the spring. I get an image of all the little seeds being released and carried away by the wind. Great performance mr. Erez. You play it with style and passion.
the last part of the Chopin's Ballade change the tempo to the style of hummel 8:10, chopin admired Hummel a great disciple of Mozart. great execution pure Gold TzviErez.
I really appreciate the way he plays, because we can feel the constant care of making each single not clearly sing even in rapid mouvements, and the respect of the original staff as written by the genius composer. Great respect for the player Tzvi Erez and limitless admiration for the composer... Hope F. Chopin can listen to all the pianist playing his pieces around the world since such a long time, and appreciate the pleasure he gives to the generations until now and for long time again.
This is definitely one of my absolute favorite performances of this song. Not to say that I'm some music genius, because I'm not, but I've listened to so many renditions of this piece and, again, this one is probably #1 or #2 for me. Thank you for posting this. Also, this is slightly irrelevant, but I love the camera work, and the piano sounds amazing, and it looks like it has incredible touch. Altogether, an awesome video.
When I hear masterpieces like this, I am so sad and so mad at myself for not being able to play something like this, even though I can play piano. No words. Chopin is one of my favourite composers. Such a genius.
all 400,000 of us viewers should watch this performance at least 8 more times. Not only does this video deserve the 1,000,000 mark, But the Million mark requires this video.
Beautiful! I played a bit of Chopin inn my piano playing days. What EVER possesses people who don't like classical music to come to a video like this and say DISLIKE? Oh wait I know! Angry immature people who are so full of hate and resentment they feel better when they [think] they can upset others. I pity them as I get a LOT of satisfaction and warmth from reading all the love messages here! Thank you, adults.
"After playing Chopin, I feel as if I had been weeping over sins that I had never committed, and mourning over tragedies that were not my own." - Oscar Wilde
Bravo for those of you who wonder what makes his performance so brilliant.,is my opinion that he interpreted this piece in its correct way. he took his time and did not speed up or exaggerate the intense parts as many others would do.
I want to learn to play piano with a passion. Not just for some contest, but just to play. I want to learn a piece and say I actually enjoyed it, not just learn and forget. I want to love a song; a song that I can play for enjoyment, Something that makes me happy. A Song I can understand, one that I'll probably love. One where I can just play and be happy. Thanks to this video, I understand piano a little better now.
When I started listening to this, I thought it would be histrionic and overly schmaltzy but that was not the case!! This is a great interpretation - clean runs and a great range in dynamics...phrasing is top notch! Bravissimo
his tempo is slower than other interpretations..... i like it how he has his own idea... in particulars the quality of the video and the close up of the hands..... thank you for uploading!!!!
well.. I'm speechless.. This piano (!), this interpretation(!).. I'm currently learnin' this piece and I can learn so much by watchin this masterpiece, played by a virtuoso.
Ive never listened to music like this or should I say instrumentals. But yesterday I remembered seeing that scene from the pianist and when watching it was struck with such beauty, that I had to look it up. Ive since listened to all the dif artist play it and you sir hold my number 1 spot. I even liked yours more than Rubinstein. (spelling sorry) Maybe because I can see you play it in this vid. my comp cant keep up with your fingers. A true masterpiece!
This song just makes me cry of sadness-happiness at the same time. Just love it, sad that the real geniuses of our time are not recognized or widely known.
What an excellent piece and a performer. Thanks a lot Mr. Erez for uploading this video. I am working on this piece and trying to make it ready for my performance by the end of May. Erez's performance recording is a great tutorial for me along with my piano teacher's lessons.
Bravo Mr. Tzvi! Thanks for this wonderful performance. Chopin is my favorite composer of all time and you are doing a hell of a job at interpreting him! Probably one of the best I have heard! Undoubtedly one of the best interpretations among the living pianists. Keep up the good work :)
I heard it was Ballades 2 & 3 that were mainly inspired by a polish poem. Chopin wrote this when he was only 23, and when he was living as an immigrant in Vienna: This is, to my knowledge, pretty much the only narrative we have to the 1st B, and one can certainly hear te lamenting and loneliness in there amongst everything else! Great recording btw. I recently did it too in a gig, You can catch it on my channel if you fancy checking it out!
I'm so jealous of the discipline and talent this man has.
my dream is to play this piece before I die....amazing!
I've listened to different people play this ballade and he plays this with such passion I am overwhelmed. Mr. Erez there are things in this world that are so beautiful that words cannot express it and this is one of these.
I think in this case, calling it perfection wouldn't even do it justice. i literally cannot listen to anyone else play this piece now. just awesome!!!
If I live to the edge of eternity, I shall never tire of this piece.
Not to mention his phenomenal piano.
The most humbling and honestly played version of this piece I have come across. I think the biggest wow factor is how he seems to not struggle in the slightest: in fact he plays it like he was born to play it.
It is my understanding that Chopin composed this entire Ballade after reading a poem by a Polish author he admired.
Certainly one of the most beautiful performances of the Ballade No.1 in the recording of video and audio♫ also. I'm very impressed ツ My congratulations best regards from Poland
You are right. This Chopin's Ballade is really amazing and the pianist performance, perfect! I wish I could play the piano like him!
***** Great performance of a very talented pianist, and I really like the sound of Bosendorfer. This is my favorite brand of pianos. Greetings Lana
I wish people my age would appreciate classical music more
Chopin himself would be grinning from ear to ear if he were listening..Bravo Tziv !
I can't help it but I listen to this piece several times everyday.
The best version I heard anywhere and for the pleasure you have brought us thank you Mr. Erez
To me this is probably the single best piece of music written.
my life is now split up into 2 parts: my life before watching this video as an electric guitarist, and my new life after watching this video as a pianist who will one day in many years of practicing be able to play this.

thought I was doing quite well with this piece until I saw this...a proper performance
A prime example of consciousness expressed with as little interference as possible. Not all music should aspire to be this but all music and most human ears can revel in the moment, modest, and flabbergasted as we stand before its complexity and fluid grace.

Beautiful music of Chopin's love brings tenderness and harmony.
This music is like a flower blossoming at dawn, with dew drops on the petals ..
Ballade No. 1 is my favourite piece by Chopin, because the music goes straight into my heart.
איזה כיף זה לשמוע ביצוע כזה ביוטיוב על ידי ישראלי,כל הכבוד!!!
I love this ballade. When I hear it, I think of the spring. I get an image of all the little seeds being released and carried away by the wind.

the audio here is AMAZING! That piano sounds so well and the performer does a terrific job!
Still amazes me every time how perfectly he plays it.

So glad I finally get to see the pianist's hands! I've been listening to this without a visual and it's just not as stimulating.
I dare someone to find a better all around quality performance of this piece.....
Seriously ive been looking for a while and cannot find one.
Bravo ¡¡Es una de las mejores interpretaciones que he escuchado.
Great performance. Chopin was a genius.
DIVINE...perfomance
