Light 100%. While Mello is somewhat intelligent (but not really), Near is actually extremely dumb. If Mikami never showed up or re-entered the room, then Near's entire plan was a failure, and this was just one of thousands of examples of the holes in his plan. In other words, Near is the luckiest person ever, but there is no luck in chess.
