Ok the fact that you correctly guessed the tempo was kind of insane!
I've been doing this a long time hah
The crazy math that goes on in musician's brains sometimes is such a mystery to me
Hot damn Daryl, this beat is better than fresh biscuits.
damn and I love fresh biscuits
Man I remember when I discovered you in 2016 and now I rediscover you and both experiences have been inspirational. I wanna make art again. I wanna make music again.
Go forth!
nothing better than a new jonwayne video after a long day
Amen
Thought I recognize him !
Daryl Dave bringing the hot tears. This one's a real sad but hopeful number. Also, thanks for these videos, Jon. I find them very relaxing and contemplative.
definitely was a therapeutic session
You make the Octatrack dope.
I still remember listening to Cassette 3 in 2013 and I just couldn’t put it down. Watching these videos there’s a certain quality throughout all your music which is just yours. Hard to quantify but it’s 🔥.
Thanks so much for listening over the years
@@jonmakesbeats 🤙🤙
This boy Daryl don't miss
I edited this episode with the Most Underrated Software in Video...
thanks for watching everyone!
iMovie
@@schnoodlevideo It's not what you use, it's how you use it 😀
Mario paint ❤
i appreciate how your key playing transitions into you on the octotrack. chefs kiss
That Tascam is like a real-time vaporwave maker!
That's one way to put it!
That damn Daryl back at it again!
Loving the MnM in the background
octa is goated. 🕊️
Wow the melody on Waldorf is very cool!
yep, thats it right there daryl wizayne. the screwed version from the 388 was dope too 🤸🏾♂🤸🏾♂🤸🏾♀
These videos and Nick Broomhall's "Thick riff Thursdays" series have elevated my song making capabilities more than any tutorial video ever could. Even though you're doing completely different genres.
Thanks for always watching!
Thank you for this video Daryl Dave!
damn your octatrack workflow is the blueprint!!!
Thank you
Thanks Jon for all the music over the years
Thanks for listening
Thanks for talking thru your thought processes and stuff in these. Hearing your instincts like "probably gonna use that as my turnaround" as you listen is super insightful. First thing I heard when you were playing the keys was some Big Sean party anthem type shit, something bouncy with a rimshot. Homie Daryl Dave knows how to cook
Glad you're getting value out of what I do
Yo Jon! Huge fan of your RUclips and beats. Been that way for awhile now! I recently got a phone and wanted to comment this to express my appreciation. Good luck making dope bangers! You rock man
I’d had a pretty shiz day. This video turned it round for me. Thanks Jon!
Glad I could help!
Another crazy banger dude. So sick
The editing is really good, shows off workflow perfectly. Slowed down was really nice 🧑🍳
shout out Schnoodle
thank you @obd :)
👌I'm glad you made this beat too!
Thanks SONWU
You make some beautiful heckin beats Barry.
I know Barry and Daryl Dave look a lot a like
nice one Dave, Daryl
Love that nostalgic mood. Octatrack is so underrated when it comes to "hiphop" beats for sure.
Another vibey creation! #inspiring
Love these videos, good job man
thanks for watching them
great vibes 🔥🔥
this guy
Dope beat!
Always 🔥
I appreciate the more tedious aspects of the OT workflow. It caters to my sensibilities; I like to be in control of whatever I am doing, so I am not a big fan of randomness and probability [which you can do on OT, amazingly]. Humanizing and creating organic feels on a rigid TR-style step sequencer challenges me and encourages me to think of creative solutions to get to my destination. The Octatrack forces me to be present and mindful of whatever I am doing. Putting my brain on auto-pilot and just creating programs to hammer something out on a 4x4 with no quantize is cool and all, but it just doesn't challenge me like this sequencer does. With the OT I have a much greater appreciation and sense of accomplishment for what I create.
To be fair, with self control we could definitely use a Daw the same way, it’s just way easier to be tempted by all the bells a whistles. Personally all I have is a Daw, so I use these videos to absorb the mindset of mindfulness without having the hardware.
i love your stuff ☔️
cheers rainer
Damn a jon and Mac tape would have been dope ✌️
RIP
That's a fire beat man !
thanks for watching
you got my head bobbin' before the drums even came in! fire ass beat daryl
Daryl was a drumless producer for like 30 seconds
Banger
fire as always
thank you
Thanks Daryl
yes!
You’re like the sweetest music magician, im happy you are exactly you
Reminds me of some early ‘04 blue scholar beats 💥 s/o sabzi and geo n daryl ovcourse
the previous beat on the MPC was great but this is a masterpiece! love it!
Thanks for watching!
Dwayne you are a true inspiration, your ears are treasures. Keep living the music!
Wish I could have had as much fun with my OT as I am having with my DT.
It takes time. Took me a while to get my head around some of the more abstract concepts
@@jonmakesbeats yeah, it took me a while aswell but I just wanted to have fun. The thing about parts always killed fun levels for me.
But I do miss the quick resampling of the CUE buss and that sort of jazz, such a powerful beast like no other.
Another classic Daryl Dave banger
Sounds very solid! Reminds me of somewhat of Khruangbin
Killer once again
Outta nowhere “so im thinking impeach the president maybe” 😂😂😂
I wonder if hip hop producers underrate the OT because they see the x0x style sequencer and immediately get turned off thinking it lacks the immediacy of something with drum pads that's tailor made for real time drum recording and finger drumming. And maybe it does in a way, but you clearly show in your videos that you can still get great grooves out of it.
I think it's a different school of thought design wise, for sure.
The design definitely deterred me for TIME. But now that I have one and I spent a good amount of time learning to use it, I love it. It makes me more decisive and less precious about things
@@peachcurls599 OT definitely taught me a LOT about how freeing it is to commit and move on. I used to think engineers and musicians were crazy for printing everything as they did it but it really does make for a better experience and ends up making better songs.
For me, I think it is Specs, and lauout/workflow. OT 8 Audio/8 Midi for 16 total tracks looks small on paper vs 128 Midi/8 Audio on MPC One. I tend to see more Electronic producers using Elektron products in their videos, and doing live sets.
All in all, I am digging the flow being shown here
Love you❤
He got rid of the mpc live one quick! 😂 If the Electron Octatrack is your weapon choice I can respect it!
I’m glad the mpc one sounds terrible compared to the octatrack
@@Mikepepp2 I couldn’t tell the difference in sound.
He said the Octatrack sounds better, looks like E-A-Ski was right about the newer mpc’s converters 😂
I don't know why when one video is focused with one workflow everyone assumes I just sold everything else lol. More MPC stuff coming as well.
And both samplers sound just fine. Back in the day there were a lot of things that added to a machine's sound (including the converters) but the difference between converters these days are so small and once it's mixed it's impossible to tell the difference. With all our access to software plugins no one should be choosing one sampler over another or even your iPhone for the converters.
Daryl Dave ✌🏻
Daryl, helluva vibe. I’d love to hear you talk more about your piano background and how you went about learning.
this must be the follow up of the last one, the one with the MPC. YEAH
I really think that prophet xl voice patch solo was amazing so so so nice
thanks for listening
this beat made me feel something yo
that's great to hear
take me away jon
Lovely Jubbly
this reminiscent of the everyday struggle sample.
Man….. you are like just right, with the production. Coming in from John Wayne. Thank you, BRUV
thanks for listening!
DD brining heat
DARYL DAVE! HELLO
in this economy i'll still with the 404mk2. the updates feature similar things as this machine for more than half the price. and they're still updating the software
enjoy!
¡You help me a lot in this path of music and art!
This would take me weeks to achieve and it would not even sound good. :D fire as always
It took me 2 hours to make but in a truer sense it took me 20 years!
Fuck, this track is stunning. ❤
I like this Daryl Dave guy. He seems, cool.
... And the best performance sampler/mixer tool so far
That sample was soo nice man. It almost made me cry too :'(
I have a RYTM too. There's a couple videos on the channel using it!
@@jonmakesbeatsI feel this comment was meant for someone else... otherwise it's cryptic as fuck.
@@musicjunkie696 lol yeah...that means there's someone else here confused as hell about my response too. I meant to say thank you and it was just a sentimental type of day
Now that im here within the first few hours. I gotta say the way you use the octatrack is very interesting. When i first saw it, i was like nah its not for me. It looks like a mpc and a 808 mashed together. But the digitakt seems more for me.
It's a smooth workflow for me
Yooo earthbound in the background?😮
you know it
The oct was the first piece of elektron kit I ever owned .. i had it for a year and did not understand it at all, so i sold it. but lately ive been missing the weird things i made on it, and now having a digitakt and syntakt, i am considering getting back together with the octatrack. I think I'm ready.
They all share the same sequencer and that's usually the hard part to get your head around.
@@jonmakesbeats I think for me personally it was the weird lingo and the cryptic manual that did it for me. I have extremely severe ADHD and at the time wasn't treating it so any time I wanted to learn something about I would get stressed and over stimulated trying to understand it. Doing a lot better mentally since then so I think it's time to give it another chance. Thanks for making these videos man, been a fan of your work since Rap Album 2. Keep doing this stuff man you are special.
Okay, Daryl can come back!
🌊❤🔥🌊❤🔥
god damn it now I have to pull out the octatrack and put the mpc live away. and forget how to do scenes again.
hold down the A or B button and turn a knob
Fresca sponsor this man!
I wanna Fanta
I've felt a calling to start making music again and i stumbled across this channel. Consider me full inspired sir!!
onwards and upwards!
I think it just depends on who you are hanging around. I normally hang out with synth dudes, and Elektron pretty much dominates that space because of good visibility within that community compared to the beat making community. MPC suffers the same within the "synth dude" space with very bad visibility and really poor marketing as being a "ghetto groove box" or an expensive drum machine. I ended up getting the MPC as a multi synth sequencer( after buying 7-10 other sequencers over the years), and it's now my favorite sampler/do everything box too.
That's why I said "in hip hop". OT definitely has its fans
if only octatrack's affordable!
side note please make more sp404 mk2 cook up!
I see Octatrack mk1s going on ebay for 500-600 bucks regularly! Literally the same machine for the most part except less quality A/D D/A conversion. But I used that model for years.
@@jonmakesbeats someday i'll get one for sure!
The only annoying thing with OT mk1 is the shit screen, if someone made Oled screen like that one dude did for analog four and rytm mk1 I would instantly buy the OT mk1
Dilla Vibes!❤🔥💫
The most underrated sampler is always whatever the newest MPC isn’t.. or a 303 😅
That said I love managing samples on the Octatrack and arranging in an MPC.
they can't all be the most underrated lol. I'm putting my foot down
@@jonmakesbeats haha you know how the MPC kids are!
the only reason I don't sell my Octa, it's been sitting on. the desk for over a year or so, but Jon's videos have given me hope that I will create nice music with it one day, even though that is not today ;)
When you're ready, read the manual. It helped me a lot.
@@jonmakesbeats that's the undeniable truth of course ;) RTFM
the original progression felt like that song somewhere out there fivel moskovitz type beat
Going West Coast
❤❤❤
Bruh you work like beast on the keys dark Dave Yee sir 😁.
I'm more comfortable on them now than I was a few years ago
Darryl makes the best beats
He's underrated
Daryl is my goat for real
Daryl honestly my favorite
Damn! I’ve been looking for that beautiful broken lead sound for so long, radio Rhodes? Was that something on the prophet xl or something you sampled?
That's a patch I created!
Can you do a studio tour?❤
I'm working on a bigger video that goes more behind the scenes.
not enough people are talking about how too many people are talking about the price
price point is important but I don't think it's overpriced for what it is. It's also pretty affordable to get a used mk1 (500-600 bucks used)
I think I know your brother Darryl, Darryl
Oh yeah...
curious to see how you’d use the sfx-6 👀
I'm also curious lol
very boys 2 men
hell yeah
Daryl Dave sample snitching himself in the first 30 seconds
He doesn't know any better
Sounds dope af. But I don't think Octatrack is really underrated so much as cost prohibited. I mainly use DAWs, but would love to get an octatrack. But I cant really justify the cost. And anytime anyone is looking for sampler hardware, I mention the octatrack, and they cry about the pricetag. Would be a lot more popular if it didn't cost twice as much as my first car.. 🤷🏻♂️
I regularly see Octatrack mk1's going on ebay for 500-600 bucks. There's literally nothing different between the models except for upgraded converters and a couple extra shortcut buttons. That's the same price as a used MPC One!
@@jonmakesbeats nice! I'll keep an eye out for sure. 🤙🏻
