I was one of the lucky ones that you sent a pair to, and let me tell you, favorite pair of skis by far. You really feel the weight difference with the Speedmax, and I find my pair to give back good energy.

Very interesting. I'm from Finland. There are quite light Karhu skis from the history, Racing Matrix and it's sibling Skating Matrix. I still use one classic pair during the spring time when double poling, if the conditions are dryer. My skis are from 1984, green ones (green Karhu logo, for cold conditions). The skis should be stone grind for better glide on wet conditions, but for 40 year old skis there is no sense. Maybe. Karhu made the first black base skis, blue Matrix, for 0C and new snow. Red one was for warm, with waxable sidewalls. The sidewalls were the same material as the base. Other Matrix models had painted sidewalls.20 years later Peltonen made waxable sidewalls to their Supra series...

I've raced several different brands of skis over the years(40) (Fischer, Atomic, Kneissl, Rossignol, and Madshus) and Fischer skis seemed to give me my best results MOST of the time. Some many variables for selecting the best performance.

Picked up my Hee Hee Heliums yesterday. That's good. While it was raining. That's bad.

    Season 2!
The hollow carbon cap Germinas from the mid 90’s seem like about the best example of where ultralight doesn’t always mean great… what were those, like 800g a pair?

Good stuff. Sounds like I should replace my 2006 Carbonlite classic skis sooner than later!

If you are looking for seconds in race then replacement might make a sense. If plan is just enjoy good weather and tracks that 80’s ski might do the thing equally well
