I have the Cat, all three Cutlasses, Dragonfly as well... I can't afford any more so the Kraken and Corsair and Vulture may be out of my budget, plus I own enough ships. :)
I've always felt that the cutlass black had the most room for customization, the option to cover up internals and externals for a price, extra safety features for a price, better quality for a price. Also, I really like your Whitebox for the interior, with the door position moved to the center it also nicely lines up with the orange lines that are visible on the floor of the cargo room, adding some nice symmetry to the design.
This is my absolute favorite Star Citizen related content. You learn a little about design and architecture, maybe have some things you didnt notice revealed to you, and its all paced just perfectly too with some great suggestions and reasons for those suggestions. Love it. Please dont stop making these!
The ship of my first pledge, back when it had it's old version, it always was and will be my favourite ship and I will always keep it! Thanks for making this video :)
Really love your videos mate. I sold my Cutlass for Carrack and so many other ships but i've come back to it. It is such a beautiful small craft and does everything, it holds a Cyclone no problem!
I'm a diesel technician by trade. Cat engines are my second language. If there ever was a time when and if Caterpillar designed and built star ships, the Cutlass would probably be the first thing they build. I've been watching your stuff since the new Squadron 42 trailer came out. I've been putting off playing this for awhile, and I think it's about time I take the plunge. See y'all in the Verse.
Yeah the layout you whiteboxed looked sick. Crazy how the simple change of making the beds perpendicular to the hull rather that the bulkhead makes the space feel ‘right’. Awsome vid as always. Thank you!
Around 7:30 I liked what you talked about with the turrent and stuff. A idea came to my mind because I recently saw a video on the 890 jump and one of the turrents slides ups and then moves forwards the up again to the gun area. Basically the idea that popped in my mind is instead of the chair going up and down it does a small zig zag in front of that door area and that's how you get into the turrent. They could add a button that brings the turrent chair down for how to get in.
The only problem is that all the extra stuff would add expense if it were real world and one of the keys to drake is eliminate all of the extra stuff to cut cost.
I absolutely love your content and the new direction you took with the mockup in 3D to show your own ideas. As someone who loves Star Citizen but also wants to do ArchViz, this is a big source of knowledge but also entertaining. I think your channel might even be my favorite one! Keep it up and thank you!
Hands down you literally have the BEST channel on RUclips for ship reviews. That being said, one of my favorite ships is the Redeemer and I'd love to see you do a review of that ship in the future.
Great visuals on your redesign. Only problem is that where you put the bulk head door it would reduce 16 SCUs of cargo space because the cargo butts up to the bulkhead. I would put the bathroom where the turret is and move the turret forward to the middle of the cabin space. Moving the turret forward should also give a greater downward angle to the arc of fire. Your redesign would have to lose the table but that loss of comfort contributes more to the spartanesque feeling. I've got an AA in arcetecture and about 6 years of experience in commercial construction as a framer and superintendent so I think a lot about redesign as well. Love your stuff Morph.
Among my ships, I own a Cutlass and I pretty much know it by heart. Yet I've watched your video till the end thanks to its stunning visuals and the overall way you are filming things. Awesome job man, keep it up.
I love your 3d model design, but I think that it would be awesome if the space below turret would also act as an (3-way) airlock: - there would be a door in front and behind the guner's seat downward possition that would serve as an airlock between crew cabin and cargo bay, that would allow you to have open cargo bay doors with pressure in crew cabin - Moving Turret seat into upper position would close a door after it (turret can be significantly damaged or even shot off completely and this would prevent loss of pressure in crew cabin - this would go with the theme that Drake expects their ships to be used in harsh conditions and that anything can brake) - If the turret's air tightness is compromised, the gunner will exit his seat into unpressurized cargo bay, instead of the crew cabin and if he desires to go into crew cabin, he can go througn the air lock once the guner's seat retracts and the door shuts after it. - The ultimate added functionality would be if at its bottom would be an elevator, with floor-door shutting after it when it goes down like on Constellation (so a 4-way airlock, but you wouldn't use this one in combat and you wouldn't use turret when landed)
I've had SC for years and I've loved the Cutlass for equally as long. I was so much in love with the old Cutlass' rugged-effectiveness that, when they updated the entire ship, I wasn't too pleased. Sure, I was happy to have an even more efficient aircraft, but I think it lost a lot of its old finesse and style. So I consider myself a big fan of the Cutlass and let me tell you right now, your 3D concept is simple perfection. It's the upgrade I think many old time Cutlass fans would have preferred over the extremely barren feeling current model. Yes, the Cutlass is not supposed to be long-term residence, but neither were the schooner fishing vessels used for pirating in the 1700s, which is what the old Cutlass Black design felt like - a sort of "make do and mend" personality. The original Cutlass Black was stereotypical 2100s pirate ship of the stars, but the rework made it too simplistic and lifeless, like an industrial workhorse. Your small rework concept revitalises that old Cutlass Black feeling.
I can't commen you enough! You are definitely one of the best gaming (if not all-round) youtubers around currently! And, this is also content SC desperately needs, so keep going, and we'll keep watching!
such a great evolution to your already one-of-a-kind series. cutty is our favorite. :] waiting anxiously for the next one! big up, superb. thank you, as always citizen o7
I love your ideas for the triangular room. This is by far my favorite ship for solo and small group activity. Your redesign makes it far more functional.
I can totally see it and your model for what is it worth is still amazing and very much helped the visualization you wanted to show us. Thank you and excellent idea sir!
Your addition of the kitchenette and the toilet room were the ONLY things missing from the Cutlass B, so I applaud your efforts to improve the design, and I hope CIG takes the time to maybe rework this ship just to have those two ESSENTIAL creature comforts.
Easy. You keep some empty water bottles in the cargo hold, and problem solved. "And the best thing of all is that all of this just works" -Drake Interplanetary, probably
Great video! this is exactly how I would want my cutty. Having a table to eat/plan the next mission at would be wonderful. The other thing i think needs to be reworked besides the UI is the cockpit. As cool as the moving seats are, they just dont make sense. I would rather have the seats on a mezzanine with a space below for maybe another seat. that seat could be used for any number of things, like remote turret control, coms, shields, etc. Alternatively it could be used as space for an extra bed or maybe even put the kitchenette there leaving for more room for a bathroom.
I once tried the cutlass black at an in-game convention, and I have to say that no matter what, the cutlass is my favourite ship. (Even though I accidentally walked out the rear ramp during a quantum jump)
10:30 another thing I would add to the turret section is a second hatch to create a space that can function as an airlock since the cargo bay will often be depressurized. Once pressurized compartments are a thing in SC the Cutlass, as it stands right now, won't be something I'd like to spend more than a few minutes of flight time in. The Freelancer has pretty much the same issue with its forward access hatch. Both ships will eventually need a little touch-up. Then again - explosive decompression is certainly one way to get your bunk mate to stop snoring in a hurry!
The Cutlass is a great ship, but when in hover mode it looks like it's about to tip over, due to the rear placement of those big thrusters and nothing at the front. It was fun to join the stream, btw!
Loved the walkthrough and review. Well done as always! The whitebox was actually extremely helpful in demonstrating the perpendicularity especially! If you need access to a caterpillar, I have one laying around that I'd be willing to share with you!
i love your architect reviews series mate, very informative and enjoyable to watch , will be cool if you keep making them because there so many ships to review! :D
Good points about the bathroom. Though I think not including a bathroom was a deliberate choice. The Cutlass Black is not supposed to be long range and removing the bathroom from the original concept during the rework reinforces a more short range role. I think CIG want the Corsair as the more long range small crew option and the Kraken for transporting a Cutlass Black long range. A fold away table is a nice touch though. Maybe something that can be added in game at a later date? Maybe suggest this to CIG? Keep up the great work mate!
Nice vid and loved your rework of the interior. Have the cutlass black myself and the interior never bothered me, untill seeing your rework. But it is as you said, the cutlass black is about functionality.
HA! I just caught this video after being linked to it in a post I have made, explaining the need to make some minor changes. I like your layout far better than the other things people talked about in that thread. It's a really great white box that you roughed out.
An architect reviews ArcCorp... while falling to his death. RIP Great video and commentary Morph! I especially love the attention to the exterior which was overlooked in earlier episodes. Keep it up!
Great content! A great ship, the designer really nailed the Drake design language. Sooo much detail. I like your idea for the forward compartment. It wouldn't surprise me if the end up implementing something like this in the future.
10:25 if you put a flat solid vertical sheet of steel on the end of the table that faces the cockpit, a guard could crouch down behind the table as hard cover with his machine gun permanently bipod-aimed at the rear door, an extremely effective defence against intruders.
I always thought the floor section where you put the table looked as though it was designed to open. No idea what would be in there though. The ship overall is great, but a couple minor tweaks would be nice. Your design definitely feels more comfortable; I'd like to have that personal space away from the duties of the cargo bay and cockpit, and for that reason there should definitely be a door between the cockpit and living space. Great review!
My suggested solution to the issue of the weirdly open space at 7:35 would be to apply a V-shaped guard railing along the striped area of the floor with a rather compact, perhaps 1.5 meter tall standing console on the very end of the V-shape, facing towards the cockpit where a technician could get information over the engines or control the tractor beam, a scanner operator informations or simply a remote access from the inside towards controlling the ramps and doors of the rear room. without having to open the door to the rear section and thus decompressing everything. The console would fill a purpose, combined with the industrial like guard railing offer a visual separation of the room that makes it appear less than a waste of space without blocking too much of it and it would even make sense as the operator of the station could get his hands on the handrails when the flight gets a bit more rough.
I would also assume that there would always be one person on lookout, so the crew wouldn't be in their bunks by the time someone blew the canopy. It's consistent with the fact that there's seating for 3 crew members but only 2 bunks
10:04 This should be offered as a design update. It's a great idea. I've thought about the lack of a kitchen and bathroom in this ship quite a lot already, and I've been a backer only since the 2950 IAE. It's just that it feels so counter intuitive for a ship that has a bunk bed and is described as a light freighter to then have an interior that's more akin to a drop-ship without side guns for suppressing fire. It's like there are a lot of options going on but it's not committing to any of them to a degree that would sell them.
I can't say how much i hate this "feature". Happens so often, that i am happy to see a new video, followed by anger when i realize i can't watch it right now, but have to wait for hours for that crappy "pretend to be a livestream" presentation. If i'd want something like that i simply would use Twitch..
Man, that footage is so smooth. When I play I get about 2 minutes of 0-15 fps and then a crash. I don't even have a bad computer, it's a 1500$ gaming desktop that's about a year old.
I love the review. I'm new on the scene to Star Citizen but my interest keeps growing. I have been considering what to get out the gate and have watched your and some other content providers recommendations. The majority consensus appears to be the Avenger Titan, however, I'm willing to drop some coin by diving in with a purchase as high as the "Drake Loot and Scoot Package." The other ship I also find appealing as a first main ship is the Origin 315P. The 315P seems more practical as a single seat ship with good cargo capacity on top of everything else it offers. My quandary is that the Origin 315P does not come in a package as far as I can tell, and can only be acquired after creating an account with one of the existing packages. Considering that that Avenger Titan and the Origin 315P are similar, I wonder if getting the Drake package is a good investment that would compliment the 315P. From what I can tell, the Cutlass Black is a great ship that can fight and carry a good amount of cargo, while the Dragonfly Black expands the ability to roam both planet-side and in space. So would it be practical to purchase the Loot and Scoot package and then get the Origin 315P later as an expansion to my ships? Is the Cutlass Black a good ship to start with or is the learning curve for this game prohibitive for starting with a ship of this style and size?
In addition to the model, which looked great for what was just a visual aid, I liked the over-the-shoulder touring. I guess you've done it before, but it seemed especially effective in this one. Moving the turret up like the Vanguard's seems like a great solution, but I'd move the door to the hold (edit: as you did - somehow I missed that while watching intently) but also the weapon racks into that area and use the freed wall space for the restroom and lockers, rather than lockers and kitchenette. The angled walls could stay personal storage on one side, but have a small bench and table (as found in the Caterpillar command module) and kitchenette/food storage on the other. But the Cutlass seems like a ship that would rely on rations and meal replacements, so I'd be okay if the food prep and experience came second to storage or whatever else was practical. And a downside with the above layout is it would maybe need a change in the cargo grid to make sure someone could reach the exits, but that could maybe be a good thing if the grid was changed to open pathways to all three.
I am quite impressed by your depth of knowledge. Most of us that would not have taken any notice of some of the key elements of spaceship design have certainly learned a great deal. Your work must have an effect on the designers. Elite dangerous it seems, will soon deploy space legs. I do hope that you will cast your critical eye on Elite dangerous ships when that happens. It will be interesting to see Frontier’s designers react.
Love the interior mockup - quite a fan of the idea that the Cutlass should get some very basic amenities in line with other ships of its size. Nothing fancy, as is typical of Drake, but enough to keep someone going out in the fringes of space. I think the design you proposed fits that bill quite well, and would love to see something similar be adopted for a rework.
This was a great video. I would like to see them put a bathroom/shower combo where the gunners seat is now with a ladder up the inside of the shower space into the turret seat.
I really like your redesign. I look forward to all your videos. I do wish the pilot and copilot seats were static and had a short set of stairs up to them.
A wonderful constructive critique as always. It's nice to get your thoughts on a Drake ship for a change, since there's obviously some very different design goals involved compared to the other manufacturers. As soon as you walked into the living space I felt it looked pretty barren, and I love your mockup which seems to address that as well as making the space a bit more useable. Personally I think in addition to your suggested changes, there should be some reworking of the aesthetics for a slightly more comfortable feeling - fewer sharp angles, and a bit more panelling on the walls. It's a Drake ship, sure, but I feel the living area should feel a bit more distinct from the cockpit and cargo hold since the purpose isn't strictly utilitarian. Maybe even put a small couch against one of the walls.
Awesome Video Man! I agree with you, this is my favorite multi crew ship as well. I am an aircraft maintenance technician by trade so having components exposed is right up my alley. I think it would be great to be suddenly dropped out of quantum travel because one of my (LRU's) Line Replaceable Units failed and I have to hop out of the seat, run in the back and swap out a part. Anyways thanks again for the video.
I never realized how much I wanted a table inside until you mentioned it.

Sort of a half-step between being in a flight suit the entire time you're in space, and just going around in regular clothes, damn the consequences. XD
I have the Cat, all three Cutlasses, Dragonfly as well... I can't afford any more so the Kraken and Corsair and Vulture may be out of my budget, plus I own enough ships. :)
Are you posting these in the Community Hub page? Your reviews deserve an MVP spotlight.
I love the way how you editing your videos. Looks so cinematic 👌🏼
Always insightful, educational and interesting. Looking forward to more of your ship reviews.
Your videos always remind me of what Star Citizen will become when it finally releases. It's going to be one hell of a game.
one a kind...
@@laurentguyot3362 a real good’n
@@keepme5225 a helluva beauty
The ship of my first pledge, back when it had it's old version, it always was and will be my favourite ship and I will always keep it!
Thanks for making this video :)
"I apologize for how sloppy it is..."
Morph, I didn't even know you could get that in-depth with Rhino. I'd hardly call that sloppy.
Well done, great editing, narration and a great overview of the Cutlass! Subscribed!
Yeah the layout you whiteboxed looked sick. Crazy how the simple change of making the beds perpendicular to the hull rather that the bulkhead makes the space feel ‘right’. Awsome vid as always. Thank you!
Your background music and cinematic shots make your videos absolute masterpieces!
Excellent review. I can't wait to see you review the Cutlass Blue and Red too.
THIS WAS SO GOOD. Ever since my friend picked up a cutlass i have been in love.
Holy shit. that 3d model you made would fix *all* my gripes. The new center section could be used as an airlock as well.
The only problem is that all the extra stuff would add expense if it were real world and one of the keys to drake is eliminate all of the extra stuff to cut cost.
@@ironrussell1 idk I think a table would be pretty needed, that’s all they should add
I absolutely love your content and the new direction you took with the mockup in 3D to show your own ideas. As someone who loves Star Citizen but also wants to do ArchViz, this is a big source of knowledge but also entertaining. I think your channel might even be my favorite one! Keep it up and thank you!
I must say I love the mass effect style of music that you use really puts me in the mood to play SC
I love your 3d model design, but I think that it would be awesome if the space below turret would also act as an (3-way) airlock:
- there would be a door in front and behind the guner's seat downward possition that would serve as an airlock between crew cabin and cargo bay, that would allow you to have open cargo bay doors with pressure in crew cabin
- Moving Turret seat into upper position would close a door after it (turret can be significantly damaged or even shot off completely and this would prevent loss of pressure in crew cabin - this would go with the theme that Drake expects their ships to be used in harsh conditions and that anything can brake)
- If the turret's air tightness is compromised, the gunner will exit his seat into unpressurized cargo bay, instead of the crew cabin and if he desires to go into crew cabin, he can go througn the air lock once the guner's seat retracts and the door shuts after it.
- The ultimate added functionality would be if at its bottom would be an elevator, with floor-door shutting after it when it goes down like on Constellation (so a 4-way airlock, but you wouldn't use this one in combat and you wouldn't use turret when landed)
I've always imagined a pop up table in that centre triangle! that would be an awesome addition
So good! I just love how deep your reviews go into these from a design standpoint.
This is my favorite ship, my buddy and I use it almost exclusively. Great video!
Man, I can’t get enough of these reviews. I will say I own an 890 and I was so excited to see you review it.
How have I missed this video till now? What a great use of space in your rework!
I just bought this ship and it's one of my favorite. Thanks for the video.
Another great video, Morphologis. I'm glad you mentioned the lead artist on this ship. I'm really looking forward to his work on the Defender too.
Would love to see you do the Starfarer and Freelancer. I feel those two ships really deserve a look at from an architect.
I can't commen you enough! You are definitely one of the best gaming (if not all-round) youtubers around currently! And, this is also content SC desperately needs, so keep going, and we'll keep watching!
such a great evolution to your already one-of-a-kind series. cutty is our favorite. :]
waiting anxiously for the next one! big up, superb. thank you, as always citizen o7
Love the effort you put into all of your videos. CIG should ask you to be a consultant on design
I love your ideas for the triangular room. This is by far my favorite ship for solo and small group activity. Your redesign makes it far more functional.
Fantastic review! AND I loved the 3D model you made!
"And the best thing of all is that all of this just works"
-Drake Interplanetary, probably
I love that your videos are in 4k
Great video! this is exactly how I would want my cutty. Having a table to eat/plan the next mission at would be wonderful. The other thing i think needs to be reworked besides the UI is the cockpit. As cool as the moving seats are, they just dont make sense. I would rather have the seats on a mezzanine with a space below for maybe another seat. that seat could be used for any number of things, like remote turret control, coms, shields, etc. Alternatively it could be used as space for an extra bed or maybe even put the kitchenette there leaving for more room for a bathroom.
I already own and love the Cutlass Black. I'm just here for the editing
I once tried the cutlass black at an in-game convention, and I have to say that no matter what, the cutlass is my favourite ship. (Even though I accidentally walked out the rear ramp during a quantum jump)
Wait what?? You just fixed the front layout of the ship! :0 That looks fantastic!
Then again - explosive decompression is certainly one way to get your bunk mate to stop snoring in a hurry!
love your redesign of the interior space....
There is so much content in your work ! I love it ! Keep going mate !!!
Morph, geeeez you're production quality is just getting better and better! I'm making a note to turn my ad-block off for your vids!
Great video and I appreciate the CAD work
i love your architect reviews series mate, very informative and enjoyable to watch , will be cool if you keep making them because there so many ships to review!
Hell yeah dude, just recently discovered your channel. Loved watching you work inside rhino. My favourite modelling software by far!
Nice vid and loved your rework of the interior. Have the cutlass black myself and the interior never bothered me, untill seeing your rework. But it is as you said, the cutlass black is about functionality.
Great video as always! Loved to see you do the modelling. Keep it up man!
I recently discovered your channel. The love and effort that goes into your videos are commendable. Bravo!
Awesome episode and I like your changes to the Cutlass, tough just adding the retractable table to the current lay-out would do wonders.
Great reviews! You gained a sub! I appreciate the quality and attention to detail.
Great format covering one of the best ships in the 'Verse!
11:30 to be fair, if somone is willling and capable to blow up the cockpit the crew is probably gonna die anyways.
Great work! great description of one if not the best ship, for all task in one!
I love your cutlass model. It solves all the issues I have with the in-game design!
Thanks you for not using the premiere feature!
I can't say how much i hate this "feature". Happens so often, that i am happy to see a new video, followed by anger when i realize i can't watch it right now, but have to wait for hours for that crappy "pretend to be a livestream" presentation. If i'd want something like that i simply would use Twitch..
I don't own Drake, I don't care for Drake....but if I bought one....I'd buy THIS Drake ship.
EDIT: 13:12 "We forgot Parachutes!!!!!"
Man, that footage is so smooth. When I play I get about 2 minutes of 0-15 fps and then a crash. I don't even have a bad computer, it's a 1500$ gaming desktop that's about a year old.
Whats about the aegis dynamic retaliator? I would love to see your opinion on it ^^
Great idea!
Specially how a rework cud be done..
I love your redesign for the interior of the Cutlass. It'd look amazing in game
I love my Cutlass, because as an Mechanic operating on Cruiseships, it feels far more like how a vessel in Space could look like
Love these vids man, also gotta love the space architect visual asmr lmao
You did a great job with the white box. I would love to see something like that.
Love your redesign or the crew area. Here hoping CIG can make similar updates in the future
This was a great video. I would like to see them put a bathroom/shower combo where the gunners seat is now with a ladder up the inside of the shower space into the turret seat.
Thank you for sharing. An outstanding idea on the redesign of the triangle. I hope Chris Roberts sees this and goes along with this redesign.
Really enjoyed your model update and made that space more usable!
Anyways thanks again for the video.
love every review you do and this being my ship i hope they take your ideas seriously
